  • I was sent this Hornby Super Detail Black 5 by Peter who said it had never been serviced, had a bit of a wobble and needed some attention here and there.

Those pick ups on this era of model are a nightmare. The brass is so thin and bendy, well done for getting them back in without much of an issue

I see that sneaky tunnel progress!

The wobbles show up in many brands and type of locomotives but, the solution is always the same. I have lessened the wobble by squaring the wheels, (a very difficult prospect), to their axels as best I can but never cured it without replacing the wheelset as you did. Great video, Jersey Bill

Now I know what drug addicts go through when they don't get their fix. Thanks for uploading! Nice work on the layout.

Loving the endoscope camera - makes things a lot easier to see what's going on!

Nice work on that Black 5 Bill, love the videos you do, Thank You. On another note I bought a new Hornby Black 5 model in 2022 and in Jan 23 when I got it out for a run on layout it decided to jam up and bent the connecting rods on one side, I've manage to bend them back in place since, but never knew what caused it to happen. I've not used it since, but after watching your videos, I'm going to get it out and have a decent look at it after some maintenance and monitor it running closely and see what possibly could be the problem.

I now have a Gnome's legs T-shirt. I also play D&D so the cross over is entirely appropriate. Long Live the Gnome's Legs!!

I’ve had this with the O-4-O’s suppose it’s cheap nasty plastic material unlike the brass gears of old. The old locos may not have had the level of detail but the had longevity and weight with metal chassis

why I won't touch modern Hornby stuff. You take longer fixing the bits that fall off while you repair it , than the actual repair.
