That is some great instrumental work! Not sure about vocals. I don't mind clean vocals at all but here it's sometimes great and sometimes it feels wrong. But great album overall. Glad I found it.
Eeeh...try Amon Amarth for melodic death metal. These guys have harsh vocals yes, but the song structure and most riffs can be found in Dragonforce/Blind Guardian songs.
Well yeah, good point. The instrumental parts are perhaps a bit closer to PM than MDM, though what I define MDM as is stuff like Children of Bodom (The old stuff), not Amon Amarth (Of course they are still MDM).
No worries, PM obviously influenced modern melodeath. Children of Bodom actually fused Power metal with black/mdm elements, hence the likeness. May I suggest Ensiferum to you? Maybe folk MDM will be to your liking (start with the old stuff). + A PM suggestion from me personally - Galneryus. If you don't hate japanese language/slight anime vibe to the music, you'll like em.

I've missed this style of Power metal, hope it will catch on. Classic european just gets on my nerves now, it's so plain and lacks any sort of bite.

because it has nothing to do with "black metal"? its melodic power metal with death metal elements.
Its weird because the album doesn't sound bad without it, however I feel that it would be more enjoyable/have more impact if there were more bass.
