    18:19 Something that I've found with these moves is that Zap Cannon + Blunder Policy is a hilarious and surprisingly effective jank strategy. If the move hits, your opponent's speed is halved. If it doesn't, your speed is doubled.
    I used it to decent effect on Xurkitree in Gen VIII and I really hope they bring the Ultra Beasts back because it's such a funny thing to pull off.

    Actually, Burn status halves the power all physical attacks.
    The idea of burn halving the Attack stat come prior to Gen 8, where all physical attacks where calculated with, well, the Attack stat.
    However, Body Press, a move introduced in Gen 8 which is physical and calculated the damage dealt based on the user's Defense stat, is also affected by the Burn status. So, that status actually drops the power of your physical attacks in general

    I find it odd that Focus Blast is so inaccurate, like I picture it more as 85% accurate like Fire Blast, it would be cool if there was a weather that makes Focus Blast never miss like Blizzard never misses in hail or Hurricane never misses in rain, what weather to give it though, maybe misty or psychic terrain, I dunno

      @@alestanealonraskin6155Yes but also doesn’t have as much going for it to make up for the more dmg. No weather helps it and it has less of a chance to apply it’s secondary effect. I mean it only has 10% chance to lower sp def which a lot of people even forget it has that effect with that low of a chance and the fact you’ll miss much more then that effect actually applies. It should at least be 80%. U could say well hydro pump also has 80% and is only 110 and has no secondary effect but hydro also gets buffed in the rain where as focus blast doesn’t have that. So it doesn’t have something to help with it’s accuracy or it’s dmg when it comes to weathers. I see no problem with making it 80% accurate I feel it would fit in perfectly fine even with the slightly higher based dmg. It’s also a fighting move and so ghost Pokémon are immune and all the other moves your only immune if u have a certain ability (like water absorb for hydro pump). And if they did make it 85% accurate and they reduced the dmg to 110 I’d be fine with that. It definitely needs to buffed accuracy wise.

    • @alestanealonraskin6155
      @alestanealonraskin6155 Před 7 měsíci

      the fact that its a fighting type move with wide distribution among non-fighting type special attackers is why the accuracy should be low. special attackers are by nature more powerful then physical attackers and fighting provides great coverage. fighting is one of the best attacking types in the game and focus blast is often paired with ghost attacks.@@davidstratton696

    Reason why lance’s Pokémon knows slam is that opponents Pokémon only had level up moves. While they can learn body slam, that’s only through tm. Move pools are known to be extremely shallow in gen 1 (especially since the only dragon move in gen 1 was dragon rage, set 40 damage move)

      Right, so here's the rundown of what we use to make our videos.
      Audio:
      Elias has a Blue Snowball Ice and I have a Blue Yeti. You can buy them for $40-100 USD or so. A microphone is absolutely a worthwhile thing to spend a little money on, because good audio goes a long way towards making higher quality videos.
      We record and edit our audio using Audacity, which is a free program. There's tutorials out there on CZcams that show you what settings to use to get the most out of your microphone, so I would look into those once you've got a mic you like.
      Video:
      I record most of the footage in the videos myself. If I'm recording my Switch I use an Elgato HD60S capture card, which cost us around $200. Elias and I bought one three and a half years ago when we started the channel and it's still serving us very nicely.
      Some of the other footage comes from an online battle simulator called Pokemon Showdown. I build my teams on the site, then I collect footage of those teams in action by battling myself on two different monitors. If you've got a Windows computer I'd recommend using OBS to record that stuff, but on Mac your best bet is probably QuickTime Player. Aside from that, we also use clips from the Pokemon anime, and some screenshots of stats and movesets and such from Bulbapedia.
      I edit my videos in Adobe Premiere Pro and make thumbnails and move/ability graphics in Photoshop. The Adobe suite is pretty expensive, but I'd say it's worth it because I get plenty of mileage out of these programs

    No, no, NO! That's the gambler's fallacy. Fissure has a 30% chance of working, each time you use it. Using it more times in a row does not increase its chance of hitting. You *can* make statements about specific scenarios, just as you did when you said "hitting at least 1 out of 2 is a 51% chance". But the odds of each individual Fissure hitting will always be 30%, no matter how many times you use it.

    • @MEPlaysGames
      @MEPlaysGames  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Right, that probably wasn’t the best way to word it. When we say that the chance goes up, we meant the chance of hitting at least 1 out of however many you’ve used up to that point, not the chance of any individual Fissure hitting. Didn’t mean to make it sound like we were falling for the gambler’s fallacy, but when you write such a long script, some things aren’t quite worded perfectly

    Something not many people know about is that quite a few moves had much different stats in Gen 1. A few of these are minor, like Clamp being 75% accuracy until Gen 5 where it got buffed to 85%, but lot of the drastic/stranger changes happened from Gen 1 to 2. A few of these were already covered in this video, but I'm going to explain a couple more that are notable. Feel free to comment if I missed anything!
    Several of them are arbitrary and numerous enough for us to infer that they were coding errors, such the accuracy of Poison Powder, Bind, Mega Kick, Razor Wind, and Slam being 74.6% while Hypnosis gets 59.8% for some reason.
    Then there are the weird duplicate ones like Wing Attack and Dig that were carbon copies stat-wise of Peck and Earthquake aside from Dig still taking two turns. Notably there are a ton of these that are normal type multihit moves, and almost none of them have been changed from their original iteration so stuff like Double Slap and Barrage are still identical to this day.
    Then we have some moves that straight-up changed type. Bite was originally Normal type, which makes sense considering we didn't have the Dark type in Gen 1, but then you have both Karate Chop and Gust being Normal as well, with the latter even mentioning that it's "a NORMAL-type attack used by bird Pokémon" for some reason.
    Finally, we have the moves that received drastic changes between Gen 1. There's some that are pretty well known like Jump Kick and Hi Jump Kick, so I'll list the ones that you don't really see people talk about much. Pedal Dance was 70 base damage even though it acted like Thrash that was 90 and then both of them were buffed to 120 in later generations, Struggle was considered an actual Normal damaging move that did 50 base power so not only could you miss it ghost types were unaffected leading to softlocks, Self Destruct and Explosion used to be 130 and 170 power, and then arguably the most egregious examples are Poison Gas being 55% accurate and Rock Throw being 65%. However for the last one it gets worse, as in the Japanese versions of Red and Green it was a measly *50%!* This means that it is the lowest (intended) accuracy damaging move in Pokémon's history; the OHKO moves don't actually do damage so they don't count here. Man, Rock types couldn't catch a break.

    I still don't get how strong Freeze is in modern Pokemon. Anytime it does happen the frozen mon just defrosts immediately or after a second turn. And any fire move defrosts regsrdless.

    • @ONLY_RR7
      @ONLY_RR7 Před 7 měsíci +2

      The reason freeze is so strong is because it completely shuts down a Pokemon for an unknown amount of time. It’s only a 20% chance to defrost each turn, and the fire type move immediately defrosting you obviously doesn’t matter if you don’t have one to begin with. If you consistently defrost immediately or on the very next turn, you’re just lucky

    • @MEPlaysGames
      @MEPlaysGames  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Fire type moves also don’t necessarily defrost the user, that’s a property that’s assigned to individual moves, not types. Flamethrower and Fire Blast don’t unfreeze you if you know them

    Another piece of fun trivia about the Spore users, Brute Bonnet isn't particularly fast, but in theory Protosynthesis and/or Booster Energy could boost its speed and make it a decently fast Spore user, possibly the fastest... except that Brute Bonnet's base stats are distributed in such a way that its Attack stat will ALWAYS be higher than its Speed (at least, at levels 50 and 100), which means that it can't ever get that Speed boost and start Sporing things

      Still... good luck getting that set up in Singles format,and even then sleep clause exists, and even in VGC it's just really not worth it because good luck getting an opponent who will let you do that, because even then Bonnet's not gonna be *that* fast, so while it's nice in theory, the hoops just aren't worth the effort.

    your forgetting that one hit KO moves like fissure and the others are reliant on the levels of pokemon. they have to be the same level as you for them to hit. the more you out level your opponent the more accurate they are. still though i find these moves to be absolute bullcrap and unfair. but theres 1 move i think is VERY unfair, even more so then a 1 hit ko move. thats toxic. literally EVERY POKEMON in the entire game can learn this move, minus a few select pokemon. a poison type move being able to be learned by literally any type of pokemon in the entire game. i question this as well because how the hell can pikachu learn toxic? how can minccino learn it? i think they went overboard with toxic. but to me toxic represents alot of the pokemon community to. almost every pokemon can learn it minus a select few, it shows how much of the pokemon community is toxic in my eyes. ive seen people in tournaments win under unfair circumstances and even trash talk others to. so i guess it fits. i mean am i wrong?
