If this were to happen in MY family, all three adults would be yelling at ME for running off.
Exactly. Ben is about 7 years old; he was old enough to know better.
Yeah, she should have been watching him better, sister shouldn't have been alseep, and he shouldn't have run iff
me too
Me too
Same 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Her anger and rage is valid by thinking her son was missing but it’s definitely exacerbated by losing her husband .Especially after she reveals that she lost Ben before as well. Even after this event she relies on the stepmom to care for the kids . The dad was always working .
Lmao the cops just petting the puppy when they're all yelling
I would probably be doing the same thing...in fact, I'd be taking the puppy away saying something like "C'mon puppy, let's go where it's quiet"
Ok I get that jackie is angry that Ben go lost but Anna being his big sister also should've kept an eye him
Anna was such a brat!
@@kerriethompson2073 She definitely was at the beginning but then she got better when she opened up to Isabel
Right, so just because her parents reproduced a second time the first kid has to automatically grow up and start acting like an adult. No more childhood for her, now she's just a free babysitter.
It was never Isabel's fault that they raised such unruly children. Ben was more than old enough to know better and to stay put. Only 2-3 year olds run off for no reason. The mother is an enabler. She throws away lunches that Isabel packs and does nothing to enforce the idea that Isabel should be respected. Obviously she's going to have a harder time taking care of children who were taught to hate her. And the dad should be doing way more😒
The mum was a petty cow
I agree with you. I couldn't help hating Jackie in this part of the film.
The only disagreement I have with your state my is that you didn’t address the dads behavior first.
This movie made me never want to date someone with kids...
Amen..I'd whip that kid so he never does that again
I don't blame you. I stopped wanting children when I worked for the school system. No thank you. I never want to date someone with kids either. I don't think it's worth it.
Dont. Its hard enough having a family, then a divorced family dealing with boyfriend girlfriend situations
Make sure not to have your own kids, either ...
Scott Matheson I don’t have any.
"Dont touch me you bring bad luck"🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣🤣

This fight gets a tad invalid when you realize she's LOST Ben before. Amazing film.
Yeah but it was her child not someone else's and Im sure when she lost him it's because she was tending to other things of the household and he ran off. My daughter when she was three ran fast she turned a corner and boom she was gone. I was like oh crap does that make me a bad mother no but losing a child happens they are so little and run so fast and disappear so quickly.
Yashira Marrero
So what it was her child, that still doesn’t excuse her for losing her son if she’s going to get that angry at her ex-husband’s girlfriend for doing the same exact thing. She should have cut her a little slack.
But that's part of why she was so upset, she was projecting her feelings of guilt and anger onto her.
As a kid I thought it was hypocritical, too. Now as an adult I always say, "There's a huge difference between losing a child in the supermarket, and losing a child in CENTRAL PARK!"
@@Wawagirl17 losing a child is losing a child, especially when you're new at it. Someone can take your kid just as quick at a supermarket then in central park.
I feel 80% of the comments are from people who haven't seen the movie
Cops casually playing with the puppy while a fight takes place 😂
Well it's not a physical fight where people are getting hurt
LOL
Fantastic acting by Susan Sarandon
Jackie overreacted bcuz she also lost ben at a store once
Well my daughter came out from home alone n nobody knows where she live address n took her to the police station n police went in group around the blocks where she was found.. We stop the police car n he told us , she at the police station , we was relief .. But hard time they never believe on us was a accident... Send us to court passed 2 month the case was dropped not from the city but from Taffy department see it was accident n we were very busy of stuff n we didnt get lock chains on the 2 exit doors ..
On this movie never sent stepmom to court?
Ben shouldnt have wandered off in the first place
I understand Jackie's side of it though because it is her children. Isabel should have been keeping an eye on him. If she couldn't take care of them they needed to have a babysitter or the dad should have taken time off work to be with them or something. There were a hundred different things that could have happened instead of what happened, but that's what makes the movie so great. This is one of my favorite movies ever. I love these actors and actresses. They are brilliant and very good at what they do.
Only my thing is Isabelle and Jackie should talk about it there's no reason for the ex-husband a girlfriend and the ex-wife arguing about the kids it's about been walking off by his self that's too dangerous for walking off by yourself
It's actually the father's fault. He should be the one picking up the children. The children come to see him and it's his visitation/ half custody time. He put Isabel in a terrible situation.
He should have made arrangements for child care while Isabel was working. With both of them working they should have a nanny for after school.
Now that I have kids I totally get this and I would be so pissed too!
she didnt do anything the daughter fell asleep and he ran off somewhere
As a child thats really not her responsibility though. She's a kid. And yes as a mother I'd absolutely expect my oldest to look after their sibling but she really could have been kidnapped or worse just the same as a grown woman or man..
Jackie’s living in a world of perfection! That’s shitty!
Isabell was getting saddled with these kids a lot in this movie. I don’t think most divorced men pass their children onto their girlfriends that much
Oh some men get a girlfriend or marry again fast in order to have a built in babysitter.
I think if he and Isabel are going to be working during his parenting time, they should have a nanny for after school. Anna shouldn’t have to be the sitter, or be expected to keep up with rowdy Ben.
getting a court order wont do anything. It just makes it worse on isible who was really sorry for what happend even though she should have kept eyes on him in the first place
Jackie knew Isabelle had a job to do and that Anna and Ben would not be getting Isabelle's undivided attention. Besides, Ben knows better than to take off in Manhattan.
Are all the American children so helpless? Watching this movie first time as a 14 year old boy in Eastern Europe that scene seemed the most unrealistic. But it is through the scenes like that we learn about distant exotic cultures and truly understand how complex the world is and how questionable the social norms are in every culture.
They in New York and the kid is 6yrs old in the big city anything can happen he walked to Central Park Zoo which is about 25-30mins away for an adult to walk so that means he was missing for an hr or more
@@Nathan-ti9pm maybe I am just too old (I'm in my thirties) and too East European, but I grew up in a very big city (bigger then every US city except NYC) and I spent my childhood being very much a part of my parents' daily life and the life of their friends and our extended family. So nobody in my generation knew what a babysitter is. Also none of us new what a stay-at-home mom is. We were just taught the basic rules of how to behave in a big city.
The point here is not the dangers of a big city. It can be a danger, yes. As everything else. The point is education and preparation of a child. Since I was three I was taught to name my address and our land line telephone number. I was taught to remember the route from a local supermarket, a bus stop, a doctor's office etc - all those places where I went with my parents and where I could've got 'lost'. It was just in case.
But the child is already six, he's old enough to walk to school. Yes, that's not a long walk, it's ten to fifteen minutes at maximum, but still it is something that he already does by that age. He knows that he should not leave the parents, grandparents or the adults responsible for him in unfamiliar places. Especially so if those adults have a business to do there (be it a doctor appointment or an hour long gig) and they can't pay their full attention to him. Also he knows that leaving an adult would mean a certain punishment. Because it was his responsibility to stick to her.
So that was a shocking scene. Because instead of being not happy with the boy's behavior and extremely disappointed in herself Susan Sarandon's character was angry with other people. It is a parents job to teach their child how to navigate the environment the child is inevitably going to face. And in this case it seems that his parents didn't bother to give him basic rules of how to behave when in the city centre and adults around can't pay their full attention.
I'm single and I'm looking for someone but I never want to be with someone who has kid's they say they don't see their kids as they live with the mum but all life they will still be his children one way or another in his life
Don't go looking for someone, romantic relationships and falling in love are not what they're cracked up to be, and there is no "right one" there is only someone who is almost right, just stay single so you can do what you want, when you want, how you want.
Julia Roberts and Susan sarandon are friends in real life
...and you are never going to be with these children again alone! Do you understand?! Ever!
In a realistic situation I would have said I don’t want to come between you and your family then end the relationship.
I would have ended the relationship with Luke.
@@donnacunningham4484 Me too. Cause I wouldn't want the dad to lose his rights to his children if he's fighting for them, so I'd end the relationship.
My mom's right! You do need to keep them away from isabel!
I don’t have any kids and I’ve actually dated women with kids who have almost basically said they think they’re better than me because they have children and I don’t
my mom and my step mom were best friends in high school
That's interesting. My dad, mom, and stepdad, along with my stepdad's ex all met in the medical field. My dad and stepdad's ex were cardiologist partners while my dad was married to my mom and my stepdad was married to his ex. Now my mom and stepdad are still together after 25+ years.
@@dudetocartman Seems like your folks just hook up with anyone in their small social circle.
@@EmptyMan000 It does seem like that. My mom just happens to like doctors.
@@EmptyMan000 that's usually how it is anyway. small or big. ppl women especially look for fimilarity. social circle gives proof . vs a stranger at the store.
BINNNNNNNNN
Lmao yes the way she yelled that
As a woman who dated a man who had an ex wife like this I can honestly tell you I never in my life will be with another man who has been married before. They bring so much baggage into your life and your just the innocent victim. I now ask all men have they been married before the moment they tell me yes I say goodbye. Women don't date men who have been married before they bring so many many problems into your life it's unbelievable. And if a man has not been married but comes with kids I no longer even want to meet their children. If they make it a year with me I meet the kids if the guy doesn't make it a year then I never meet the kids and I go on with my life.
Well this sucks. All of the men in my city either have children or have been married at least twice by age 25.
Hmmmm no I don’t think your an innocent victim, and I also think it’s perfectly fine for the mothers to hold you and other women to a standard
It’s the other way around for me. I’m a single man and dated a single mother. Turns out she was more of a baggage to me than her son. I got a long well with her son but eventually, soon it was evident that she was a problematic woman! No wonder her ex-bf dumped her. Cannot tell the story in detail, but I decided to break up with her. Not because of her kid.
As you get older however most men come with a history and you have to suck it up. Whether you're emotionally ready to be stepmom however is an individual choice
Yashira Marrero - wait, never mind the "innocent" but how are you a victim? A victim of what? When you meet a man, you expect him to dump his entire life he had before you (children, parents, siblings, friends, financials - anything that might mean obligations) and have only you (and your obligations) in his life? I also would not want to date a man with children, but there is no way you (or I) are a victim. You become a victim if a man lies to you and claims he is not married but he is, or that he doesn't have children but he does. Other than that - I don't see how.
Ben is well old enough to follow directions! Jacky didn’t seem to instill in him ANY responsibility for his actions, how sad. My 2 year olds never did anything like that, I was always talking to them about THEIR job being to follow directions and be obedient. I was taught better growing up in the ‘50’s & ‘60’s in the NYC Metropolitan area. My children were brought up in a very small, agricultural area of North Florida. I’m glad I didn’t have him in a classroom !
Love the south in Julia's "BEN"!
I like that she at least castised ben for running off after this part and not making it seem he did nothing wrong like most parents do. He had a hand to play in this well. If that were me - yeah I would have been made at Isabel. But ben def would have been in for it too.
Jackie shoulda taken her kids to help her and her friend move. Both has jobs that day. Why put the kids off on someone who was already scheduled to work.
She was supposed to be keeping an eye on them besides working. She was too involved in her work.
Jackie knew Isabel had a job to do and that Anna and Ben would not be getting Isabel's undivided attention.
Yes she was supposed to be watching them but she also had work to do. Anna should be old enough to watch Ben at least until Isabel stops working. Ben is old enough to know not to run off like that.
His sister should've kept an eye on him too Julia Roberts had too much going on in her play in this movie!!!
I know the scene was needed for drama but in reality if Isabel needed to do a photo shoot Is Either Jackie or Luke would have gotten someone to stay with the kids at least while Isabel was doing the photo shoot or had them hang out at a friends house
In all fairness she fell asleep and let her brother wander off lol what is she like 12 years old? My sister was pretty much keeping the house going at that age
Ela não é sua irmã.
Se você estivesse lá, talvez fizesse a mesma coisa.
What an annoying sound!
Jackie was a hypocrite in this scene and way overreacted. Just because she bitter about Luke walking out and finding someone else. She was so conceited and wanted everything to be about her.
she cleared them.
Yes, Luke... your sex life is SO MUCH more important than your kids.
I blame Jackie. She shouldn't have left her kids with Isabell while she was I work.
Jackie knew Isabel had a photo shoot to do so she should have realized Anna and Ben were not going to be getting Isabel’s undivided attention.
Mistake. Always. Open. The door towards open. Mind. And unblockheart

Okay we all need to point out the VILLAIN in this movie...ED HARRIS....have you seen a more absentee father? Why is Isabelle doing any of this child rearing?!! This is HIS job not her. He is trash, Julia don't marry him.
