10 Oldest Fighter Jets That Are Still In Service (2022)

  • We all love the new and advanced aircraft. But what are some of the longest-serving and oldest fighter jets still in service within the military?
Of course, if a military wants to keep an edge on the battlefield, it has to operate on the newest and the most advanced tech available. But sometimes that is simply not possible. Budgets might be too small, or the political situation too inconvenient to buy new fighter jets. So, old ones have to remain in service.
Old does not mean bad, though. First, jets can be well kept and maintained, and be as capable as they were when they first appeared. Second, they can be - and mostly are - upgraded with newer and better engines, radars, weapons, and other systems, keeping just an old shell with all-new capabilities. Third, and most important - most surviving aircraft of old models are of newer and advanced variants, introduced just before the model went out of production. Finally, we have to keep in mind that pilots, infrastructure, and tactics are what wins a fight, and characteristics - such as age - of a fighter jet is just one of many variables on a battlefield.
But it is an interesting variable nonetheless, so, let’s see what are the oldest fighter jet models still operational. This list is based on its introduction into service, and an aircraft has to belong to a category of fighter jets - meaning a design optimized for air-to-air combat, usually with ground attack capability. There are many caveats to that, but we will discuss them as we go along.

The MiG 25 was developed as an interceptor, not an attack fighter, aimed at the XB-70 and the SR-71, the latter which it was ultimately incapable of intercepting. Its follow on, the MiG-31 Foxhound was an improved version, but still fell sjort of the SR-71's speed and altitude capability. Fear of the Foxbat spawned the F-15 air superiority fighter and the last USSR-USA arms race was on! The limitations of the Foxbat became known in detail when Victor Balenko defected to Japan in his MiG-25.

1- Is it possible to make money from CZcams by making this type of video?
    2. What software do you use to make these videos?

Mirage 3 and 5 were used in retaliatory role lately in 2019 by Pakistan against India. Because of their speed, successfully mirages dropped their payload on targets. While the Indian air force chased them, Pakistan air force's F16s, shotdown mig 21 and SU 35. In confusion, Indians shot their own mi17 helicopter which had gone to rescue crew of SU 35.

IAF and Su 35?? Su 35 lost to Dassault Rafale and the winner is now in IAF . also no. F -16s were rushing in to Retaliate for the Balakot attack which "allegedly killed 450 crows and trees" when they saw two MiG 21s in their daily Patrol routine in the skies as interceptors. Su 30 MKIs were launched only after the Interceptor sent the message back to base to ask for reinforcements in the sky . not Mirage 3 but JF 17 were there to assist the F-16s in carrying out a retaliatory ground attack on Indian army base in case things go hot, which never . IAF lost a MiG 21 to a Sidewinder . PAF lost a F -16 to a R-73 which Russians and now Americans are slowly acknowledging .

@@patriotenfield3276 lmao what? What kind of cheap weed are you smoking to come to a conclusion of PAF losing a F-16? When all the missile seekers were found intact along with R-73s. You don't make half baked claims just like that.

1.Why the grainy image, especially since it’s of no help to a serious observer wanting to examine same for authenticity?
      2. Why NO observers allowed to check on these missiles - up-close and personal?
3 .Why NO serial number of the recovered R-73 provided, not even a partial one?

1-They clearly invited acknowledged defense experts to check on the scraps of the Mig-21 bison, including the missile seekers. By any chance are you feeling like, you are better than defense experts? So the serial number would be provided for the likes of you?
2-The story of the serial number copium comes from a stupid Indian commentator to begin with who found nothing else to be off value but the serial number just to further blindly defend the second hand embarrassment.
Those experts had a job and they were there to do their job at the spot. Unlike random keyboard warriors on the internet.
