  • HLOM Director Ryan Duffy details the history and importance of our World War I Marine Uniform, worn by Genesee County resident George Hillabush as part of the 5th Marine Regiment. His unit and other Marine regiments were pivotal in the victory at Belleau Wood in June 1918. The Marines and other allied units repelled a German attack and then counter attacked into the wood, often fighting in hand-to-hand combat. Hillabush saw action there, but came home wearing this uniform.
