I have owned my 2015 SS since 2016 when a car dealer friend of mine offered a trade-in to me that had only 3900 miles.
    I paid $42,000.
    It has an automatic trans.
I commute in this car 11 miles to work in north Seattle.
I recently had all of the struts done at 74,000 miles for $6400.
A factory recall new rack'n'pinion steering was also installed.
Its now on its 3rd set of tires.
The breaks were done 2 yrs ago.
    It gets 15.6 MPG.
There are NO modifications on my SS.
    Totally straight factory.
I am still in love with this car.
I feel that this car is Chevrolet's 21st century version of the late 1960's Chevelle SS.
It doesn't need any bolt-on kid stuff to keep being nice.
Its nice all on its own.

I have a 2015 SS and I am also pleased with the car, which has 18K miles. I will need to do brakes and tires this spring. The late 60's Chevelle is certainly a close cousin to the SS. People stop and look at this car everwhere I take it. It is simply the cats ass. A timepiece.

My uncle had two of them with the Holden badges on both. The newer one was crushed by a tree on his property maybe a year ago. The other is most likely still in his garage. When people would walk past his office, they would be scratching their heads trying to figure what they were looking at. After circling this unknown car, they'd walk off. The Holden badges would have them lost in the sauce.

Two years ago my wife drove my 1999 Monte Carlo on a 700 mile trip and the engine blew at 200 miles. After getting it towed back I was at a loss for what to do but lo and behold that very night, I found a 2017 SS for sale with just 2800 miles on it, with the specs I wanted, just a day on the lot. I got the car I wanted since 2014 but was too stingy/responsible to get while I still had a functional car. One of the luckiest moments of my life.

It's really sad GM didn't market that vehicle at all for the USA.
I'm an Aussie and these vehicles are fantastic. I currently have 2, a 2010 Holden Commodore SSV Special Edition (you Pontiac G8) with the L76 V8 auto sedan, and a 2016 Holden Commodore SSV Redline LS3 manual sedan that I've supercharged and cammed. Both are fantastic and really give the German cars a run for their money at almost half the price.
The thing that shits me off about the American versions though is that you guys got a lot of the better tech and engines in the vehicle sooner and cheaper than we did here in Australia. Eg. For the Pontiac g8 you guys got the LS3 engine, where we still only had the L76 6L in the Commodore SSV, and if we wanted the LS3 we had to buy a HSV Clubsport, Maloo, or GTS, which are great cars but almost double the price of the Commodore SSV. And when the Chevy SS came out in the states you also had the LS3 s standard, where the 2013 to 2015 Commodore only had the L77 6L, it wasn't until late 2015 when series 2 came out that we got the LS3 as standard. And MRC is only available on the HSV range, or the very limited run of the SSV Redline Motorsport Special Editions that came out as the final show before the factory closed.

Everything I've "heard" is that they had a somewhat serious number to build each year to go toward the total amount of units they were obligated to build at the Holden factory at that time. (That's all complicated and I'm definitely not in the know, but that's what's been hinted at by people that would know more.)Of course the production numbers varied SOME every year, but each of the four model years about 3,000-4,000ish were built. They didn't plan or want to market the car. Since the number seemed to be somewhat set GM didn't put any money or effort into marketing. This is also the reason that the only "options" the SS had for the U.S. was auto/manual(2015-17), sun roof, color, and full size spare or inflator kit. The U.S. version did have the better overall specs compared to Australia, but they were all "standard". Almost no options to chose from. Another hint that GM wasn't really trying to sell the thing. It was likely just a numbers gap model every year for how many they were obligated to build at the factory with the Australian government until the factory closed in 2017. Again, I'm no expert, just alot of the talk at the time from some of the people that really knew the car.
Think about it. If they truly wanted to sell alot of them then they would've tried....

Have the Silver 2014 since it came out. I was lucky to have seen it at a car show in Dallas and was immediately drawn to it. My car at the time was on it's last legs and I was searching for something to replace it and nothing was striking my fancy until I saw this. You're right - not a word of advertising and it was off to the side of the Chevy/GM grouping but it just stood out. It's been an absolute joy to ride. More than enough power to get you into and then back out of (or into more) trouble. I fishtailed it coming out of a parking lot on damp roads the first week I had it, underestimating the raw power and rear wheel drive. I had it fully re-badged with Holden logos except for the airbag and display monitor and I just love the puzzled looks it get from people who have no idea what a Holden is, but I occasionally get the knowing nod and compliment driving around. Also got a nod from several police offices in a parking lot once. Turns out it's in line with the Caprice cop cars. Having a car that is 1 of 3000 (roughly per model year) is in itself special. Just rolled over 100K after 8 years and I'm hoping to see 2. Can't even imagine what would replace it if I lose it.

The two top versions of the Holden Commodore (not HSV) are the Craig Lowndes Motorsport edition and the Calais Director.
Both limited to 300 units per year. Both the pick of the litter when it comes to Holdens.
But Best In Show is the HSV GTSR W1.A street legal race car.Even down to the Pirelli PZero Trofeo tyres, the only production car in the world to have them as standard.
We needed one more year for the Commodore to have reached its' ultimate form, but we got ripped off.By GM.

This car was designed from the ground up and manufactured by GM’s Australian subsidiary Holden for the small Australian right hand drive market. Without getting into minute detail, the base model is a Holden Commodore, running a bog-standard BOC V6, modified and manufactured in Australia.
The model you see here in this video, if right hand drive, sold in Australia as the Holden Commodore SS.
I owned an Australian designed and manufactured 2016 Ford Falcon FG-X XR6T with the legendary turbocharged 4.0L straight six Barra engine. This wolf in sheep’s clothing was just awesome. I wish I could have kept it.

I think the HSV Senator is a better car. If you love the SS you will die for the Senator. A luxury car with a moded up engine. I drove the SS back in 2004 and it was nice enough but limited on luxury items. Not even Sat Nav. I had a 99 Senator with 250,000 on the clock and still drove like a new car which is why I was looking at upgrading in 2004.

Nothing better than dog-walking clowns, in their Mercedes Benzes, or BMWs.

I want to shoot for as close to 500whp as possible, and that should get very close.
Dying to do an LSA or Whipple too...but, I dunno....cost.
The Mid Range in this car is a blast...hammer down, ripping gears, so ya hear that (very slight) grind on the 1-2 shift..let it sing, hit the 2-3 shift at 6,000rpm!

Car is great until you figure things out. if you manage to score a manual its a hell of alot less irritating, as you only need to really fix the rocker arm trunnion situation to be good.
If you are unlucky enough to get stuck in the AUTOMATIC boat, you will need to have engine work done asap. if you put it off till later its going to be 6k minimum.
I just sent my 2016 off this week to get fixed. LEARN FROM my cars mishap. AFM/DOD/DFM delete. get RID of the lifter trays if u can. good lifters dont NEED TRAYS. the fuel ur supposed to save with active management is NOTHING compared to the amount of repairs that system FORCES on the car.
