  • Aimed at both improving pace of play and preventing opponent sign-stealing, PitchCom eliminates the need for a catcher’s traditional finger signals. Rather, the catcher wears a forearm sleeve -- resembling a remote control -- with nine buttons for calling the pitch and location.

I'm normally a traditionalist, but I like this. My only concern is if the crowd will be too loud in the playoffs to hear it. Also I would hate to see technical difficulties or low batteries interfere with a game. It won't be 100% perfect, but it's better than the old hand signal system. This was a critical issue they had to be sure of, since the catcher always has one of the earpieces as well (so he can confirm that it's sending what he meant to send). So it had to be focused enough that the batter can't hear the signs from the catcher's own earpiece, and it seems that's working. Most catchers will check with the ump to verify that the sound isn't carrying where it shouldn't.

Finally technology is being used for some good in MLB(unlike the Astros in '17). This idea should speed up the game, limit the time in between pitches and cure sign stealing in the traditional way. I am all for getting a sign as the runner if the catcher or pitcher is obviously exposing the sign. And I am all for the pitcher drilling a hitter when they know that player is looking for those signs.
As long as the device works 100% of the time and teams have the option to use and the pitcher does not feel uncomfortable wearing the device, this is genius and long overdue!

I suggest using the sense of touch. The device would be on the back of the glove under the wrist strap... It could send and receive... You would use a Morse code type signal. The catcher wouldn't need to look at that stupid thing on his arm, and noise would not be an issue...
