- SIMPLE 1.21 KELP XP FARM TUTORIAL in Minecraft Bedrock (MCPE/Xbox/PS4/Nintendo Switch/PC)
This Minecraft Bedrock kelp xp farm is simple and efficient. It produces a lot of dried kelp and xp. Dried kelp can be crafted into dried kelp blocks. Dried kelp blocks can be used as fuel. The farm works on 1.21 and on all platforms of Minecraft Bedrock whether you play on mobile, console, or PC. Please like, comment, subscribe, and check out my other Minecraft videos! Thanks for watching! - Hry

Is the xp nerfed already? Or is this an older client version
I use alot of your farms, but this one i cannot get to work, is it different on a realm?
Yo, it isn't working correctly for some of us, I can't figure out why. It seems the pistons are going too fast, but if I add 1 tick to the repeater, it's too slow and the sand falls. That said, it also works by replacing the clock with two observers facing each other, but same problem occurs.
When using the clock, if I flip the switch on and off manually, it does work, however. But if I flip the switch too quickly, the kelp stops growing
Edit: I fixed mine with some experimentation. I added a second clock, so each set of pistons is controlled independently. Then I set the top pistons to 2 ticks, and left the bottom at 1. It works now. You can probably just add one repeater leading to the top pistons instead of a whole new clock, and set it to 2 ticks, but I don't want to break it again, it's been a pain fixing it lol
@@reric88 thanks for that, if I doesn't work then that sounds like a very easy fix, also this would work if I doubled it's length right?
Have built it and working well , however , the issues is that you mention that 10 pieces of coal are sufficient to start the process but to also to wait for at least 18 full stacks before XP collection .. how are you supposed to fuel it beyond the 10 pieces of coal you suggest to obtain 18 stacks ?.
I just came here hoping to see your old version and was surprised when I saw this one! I built this one really fast under an hour. I thought I could go bigger with it, so I stacked 12 of these all under 1 lever to activate it all. It took the better part of an evening, but after it’s all done, I now can produce 5,760 dried kelp blocks in an hour! I did the math for how much raw kelp it produces, and it’s almost 260,000. I def recommend building this away from anyone’s base if you make it that big on a realm or something like I did. I love this farm so much. Thank you JC!
Danggggg
I am not receiving any xp while taking from furnace can anyone help?
can you show me how to do it? like make a vid showing if you could.
I learned to stack down rather than sideways. I just add more chests and hoppers below, and that way it stores more XP. I also LEAVE THE KELP. If you touch it it has to reset so I grind through about 10-15 chests rather than 1 per furnace
Worked first time. Lovely easy build. Just remember to give outline of the build footprint at the start - really helps planning.
Or… do what I did: fast forwarded to see the dimensions and plan where I’d put it…
So smart I started this in my underground base and she fits like the wrong lego piece
Does it work on Java
So when the crafter comes out, we can automatically have it turn the dried kelp into blocks of dried kelp for fuel that’s ready to go 🤔.
Pretty much
Yeah, we can split it to give the furnace that burn the kelp
*Yup!*
What
This is patched in 1.17
If yours is failing to work, make sure the bottom sticky pistons do not have blocks underneath the extended arm portion, I spent like an hour rebuilding in a new chunk until i realized.
I still couldn't get it to work, I'm playing on a no add on world I can't see chunks, my kelp still will not grow

This guy is the real goat honestly he’s the only reason I still play on me and my friends 8 year realm honestly and savior for bedrock players and he deserves way more subs than he already has keep up the good work and is bedrock players will continue to support you for years and updates to come
Without JC out Bedrock Savior I probably wouldn't play
Thank you so much for this! I've come back to Minecraft after not playing for years and decided to play it on the Switch. I spent ages building the old style mob grinder for xp just to realise it doesn't work on bedrock 😭 luckily I now have this and I can enchant to my heart's content 😊❤
It works you just need to be around the mob farm to make it work try building it near your house
@@jatinpal8984 does it? I afk'd next to it for 30 mins and only got one skeleton 🤔
I quite like this xp farm anyway. I've extended this design to 12 rows rather than 3 and it works great and leaves me with tonnes of dried kelp left over which I use for fuel and bonemeal 🙂
The old style doesn’t work but he has an updated one on his channel it’s different layout more materials needed but it works
Wow, I just recently got back to Minecraft survival and was looking for an XP farm, expecting to see some kind of mob grinder. DAMN, this is so much better!! Thanks my man
ive been watching your tutorial for 3 years now,you are my favourite channel ever
Does it it still work today?
thanks for showing us another awesome farm :D your farms are the reason i dont go crazy trying to grind materials and xp
How much xp per hour does it get you (I am on bedrock)
In our server, we changed one of the smokers to a composter so that it also functions as a bonemeal farm. We didn't replace all of them though cause the kelp consumption of composters are really fast.
My boi! I've been gone for like a year but you are still making kick ass Minecraft videos as always love ya!
Your content is amazing. 🎉
Keep up the great work ❤.
This guy is a mad lad. Absolutely keeping our minecraft worlds together !
doesn’t even work
@fireball01200 If it doesn't work, maybe you should re a tech and double check your work. It's easy to miss place a piece of Redstone. And if you y aren't inside a single chunk it won't work either
Thanks, it works 👍
My only issue is it didn't work at first. But then I changed the repeater to 2 ticks, and then it worked. Maybe I just have a potato device lmao.
This farm is not giving me much XP, so I don't recommend building this for XP. But if you want to get a LOT of fuel and bonemeal, I highly recommend it.
Mine broke after 10minutes. I replaced the kelp and kept not working cause sands falls down, and I got 0 exp out of it.
@@martag.3640I’m having this same issue
Love the upgrade. Thank you JC
I made this farm 12 pistons wide. 😀
Looking forward to 1.21 so I can add some Crafters.
Thanks for the design! 🙂
What's your xp yield look like?
@@BLAZEDBOOGERit’s insane if you wait a bit. I have one with 12 of this build all next to each other. I recommend building a rail system to add fuel to the smokers if you’re build it en masse like that though

wow what a coincidence! I haven’t watched Jc for months now cause I stopped playing mc. But I just joined in a server few days ago, and today I thought about making kelp blocks so I could use it for fuel, and wow. I didn’t have to scroll all the way down just to find this tutorial. Hahaha it was just posted 20 hrs ago. Thanks Jc! You’re a life saver
Blaze farm
It worked first try thanks! Helps a ton to not mine coal for fuel.
This guy’s tutorials are excellent.. just made his Bonemeal farm and its working great .. will be using this one next 😁
I never realized the smokers actually hold the XP. I always flip my levers down and just stand there... didn't realize I could filter it into chests without any setback.
Built on bedrock realms. Works like a charm. Feed into the back of his auto smelter for increased effeciency. (Hoppers above fuel rail line cart) great job jc!
why do i barely get any xp from it?
Hi saw this was a month ago so don't know if you'll see, but could you explain how to build the improved feeding? With the chest and stuff?
@@drewbauer9721 I put a hopper directed towards the fuel cart at its rest spot in front of the lever. put a double chest above the hopper, fill it with kelp blocks. Every time you turn the cart system off it will automatically refill the cart. With the increased weight in the cart you'll need an extra powered rail. This also works really well to keep the smokers stocked with kelp blocks; minus the rail system. A full double chest and hopper of kelp blocks will operate a smoker for about 20hrs. Obviously you would need a much larger auto storage for the dried kelp it makes. I put down 10 rows of 3 double chests and check them every 8-10 hrs to consolidate into kelp blocks.
@@wiqz6444 I recommend building an auto mob farm for xp. Kelp is good in a pinch but isnt great overall. Jc has a guardian, blaze, creeper and piglin tutorial. The piglin (gold) farm is easiest and the guardian farm is the best for xp ive found
First ever xp farm that has worked this well for me!
thank you, I'm gonna add this to my flat world
The count for the materials list is off a bit. The solid block count below is for the actual machine only. You may want to bring 8-10 extra if you ware wanting to use them to create the water source like in the video.
12 chests
74 solid blocks
Just dig a hole in the ground 💀
I was about to say “is it on 1.20?” But then I read “16 hours ago” lol
Also amazing! Thats definitely gonna help! (Its not even hard blocks to get)
omg thx i needed this for my server
Thank you! I can finally repair my silk touch pickaxe without being in severe pain :D
Just put mending on it 👏
@@loveit1628 If he says he can repair his pickaxe now (with the xp farm) its because he obviously has mending on it.
this works great, i would say its much more of a kelp fuel farm than an xp farm though, xp is very slow
i just made this tonight and i smelted the 18 stacks and it gave me decent Xp and now it gives me very little xp each piece of kelp
Same, it's not very effective
That’s currently what’s happening to me.
this works like a charm frfr thank u
I just tested it out in creative and it works for me. One thing to note though is you do not want to make this farm in a chunk border, which means if you're coordinates are divisible by 16 you're on a chunk border. What I did is outline the border with blocks to make sure I stayed within a single chunk.
Guys, if it didn’t work for some of you (kelp not growing) try to see the sticky piston system sideways, and see if there’s some sand blocks underneath, that fell for so,e reason. If there are then just remove it and should work. Mine was working fine but then the kelp and sand disappeared and when I replanted it didn’t grow, but then I saw the sand blocks underneath
Saved my frustration thank you
Thx that was it
All too easy to miss, but there's nomenti9n anywhere except for applying common sense... if the SAND drops you need to REPLACE it .!!
Was trying to fix the water flow because it was all going to the left side for some reason and the far right chest wasn't filling up. When I replaced the water and Kelp I turned. It back on but the kelp stopped growing...
Nvm I took apart the entire inside including the pistons, replaced them and it worked. I didn't have any sand down there tho
wasn't working for me the sand kept falling after the first tick i rebuilt it a few blocks over and change the direction it was facing most likely was on a chunk border. hope this helps
Highly recommended!! even if it stops working...just rebuild it.. fair amount xp in just under 20mins too.. thanks JC!
Does your redatone connect directly to sticky pistons cause mine wont
@@eefseller188 Did you ever find a solution? I have rebuilt in several locations & cannot get the dust to connect to the pistons therefore, the arms do not extend...UGH!
Tanks a lot, it worked far better than my previous one. And yours has still not broke yet
Does it still workM
whenever i do it i dont get a bunch of levels its just like a normal amount of xp you would get
Same. The last time I built this it worked fine. And the first few times I grabbed xp out it was substantial. But it stopped producing anything more than normal. Trying to find answers or fixes. Some people say that it got patched :/
Does the xP work? I tired and didn’t get a single xP level with 64 stacks of kelp in the furnace
Damn this farm is back up!! I remember me and ny bro made this in I think 1.17
I love your videos, but I’d like to request that you show a map of the “floor plan” that would cover the entire size of the build, so we can plan the space easily before starting the build? I’m having to watch the video several times to get the block spacing done correctly in the spaces I have mapped out for the builds. I’ve used several of your builds and LOVE them, they always work great! But as an improvement for them, I’d suggest maybe placing wool down as a marker outline for the space needed for the complete build. Then we can also see where in the outline we are starting out. Hope that makes sense. 😂
I ran into a problem where it would only produce kelp when the leaver was flicked. But I found out that if I just updated the slabs with redstone it would work as intended. Hope this helps for anyone else
That might just work ty will try
what do you mean updated it with red stone please explain
Slabs with redstone?
@@srvc_toe_snatcher122 so when he water logged the slabs sometimes they bug out and don't return to a flowing state. If you just update them by running redstone dust on top it will refresh the block states. The redstone has to turn on and off is what I mean
@@bronzznn9845thanks couldn't get mine to work but this did the trick😊😊😊
Maybe you could have told the chunk border thing right at the start
Thanks! Still works 🎉
cant wait to show this to my enchanting wizard friend
I wonder if you can dig 2 more blocks down below the sand and string some hoppers together with buttons on top to break and catch the sand. Then you just grab it and replace it.
yes, but i used soul sand, i would often unload the chunk by accident and got tired of fixing it
Really great tutorial, I suck at redstone but these always make a lot of sense! I had the issue with the chunk border too, but after moving it it all worked, aside the fact I can't seem to get lots of XP, I seem to only get a little but, any advice?

I’d love to see a version with pressure plates instead of levers? I’m not super smart at red stone and would like to see the hoppers lock when you stand on them to collect the kelp. Then stand off for them to pass through
it’s a tutorial for a reason
Could probably break the lever and put the plate on the ground there
It works! Thank you soo much ❤❤❤❤
I’m not bashing this idea at all because to be fair I had two 12 block kelp farms to get xp early out in my realm….. it takes a lot of effort…well time of constantly going back and forth to take the full stack out and collect xp. Then go back and re fill the smoker. I have 10 farmer villagers with a decent auto pumping farm and the xp I get from trading with them seems to be faster leveling specially when you’re over 30 the kelp farm take for ever to level you
I just converted my kelp farm into a bone meal farm by swapping smokers out for composters

@@super_games_and_lego Yap. It's a horror. Hopefully they turn It back.
Fr they make it slow as hel
you can get resorce packs that solve this issue
I highly reccomend placing a redstone torch in the circuit after the clock before logging out. It ensures that the curcuit is in the on condition which prevents the pistons from being shut and letting the sand fall down.
Can you expand on what you mean?
@@sebby73sebby I believe that the pistons turn off and back on when loading in because the game is waiting to determine the condition of the lever which gives one of the sand layers enough time to fall below. When the machine is turned off, the sticky pistons are actually "always On". I put a redstone torch on the ground to power the line going up to the stickies so that when I log in or load the chunk it is already powered therefore it doesn't spend time determining the condition of the lever.
@@sebby73sebby i actually don't know why my machine breaks when I log but putting the redstone torch to power the sticky pistons fixes it for me.
A nice and easy way to automatically craft the dried kelp blocks is by
1. placing hoppers under each chest and make sure the nozzle face into the blocks to the left
2. Place the new "crafter" block with the face looking upwards
3. Make sure the hoppers you placed during step 1. Are going into the side of the crafter.
4. Place redstone dust leading from the redstone torch used to make the redstone clock into the side of the crafter.
5. Activate the kelp farm and the dried kelp blocks should automatically be crafted and dropped on the ground for easy collection by the player to re fuel the farm!
Trust me that it will make crafting the blocks much easier as you will not need to empty your inventory to do so.
Optional 6. Add a lever on the side or top of the crafter and flick the lever if you wish to turn off the automatic crafting of dried kelp blocks.
Bedrock PC current version local game in survival normal. First attempt was between chunk borders, fixed that. Second build centered in a chunk, now I am getting the instant grow and drying of kelp the way this kelp build usually goes (used one like it since 1.16) But The smokers are not storing XP. So if 10 slots of 64 kelp go through, and I flip the switch so I can collect the next kelp, I get a teenie bit of XP as if it was just one kelp I mined. Anyone notice no build up in the smokers?
Happening to me too. Idk if this works anymore cuz im not getting much for xp after smelting stacks of kelp
Would there be a reason why this wouldn't work in realms?
Thank you so much !!!
My works great, thanks!
Did this break Jan 31 -Feb 3 2024? I logged on today and now the sand falls and the kelp keeps breaking this is on a realm?
having the same issue
The xp gains are very underwhelming but at least i have infinite fuel now.
My comment went on the wrong video, so in case anyone else has this issue: Author states at the end of the video that if the unit is sharing two chunks it may not work. If your sand won't stay in place, you are likely on a section where two chunks overlap. Rebuilt this unit on a second realm 3 times in the same spot until I actually finished the video to hear what the author had to say haha. Otherwise, works like a charm! Third functional build for me.
Thanks for this!
The Sand just keeps falling for me
Must apply the red stone to extend the sticky pistons before placing sand on top
I built the exact same thing but the sands are breaking when i turn it on
Your on a chunk border, I had the same issue and moved it and it worked
@@willlawrence1916 i see, but how can i check the chunk border? Do i have to just guess it?
Thanks for the info! Got it to work right away. Just curious, what is the function of the bottom sand layer and the sticky piston in the farm?
I added onto it by having crafters make the dried kelp into blocks, and then I dispensed those blocks into a soul sand water elevator and had them flow into hoppers that delivered the kelp blocks back into the smokers
Guys can someone help i have rebuilt this 5 time the water in front of the pistons disappears and the kelp wont grow idk what keeps goin on
Mine did the same thing and whenever it’s on, open and close the trap door and it does what it should do too. I put a Minecart with detector rails to open and close the door to make the kelp
Can you please do a upgraded gold farm i want more gold and exp😢
Add more sections
Another great thing with this is that you can make this as a bonemeal farm too! Just switch the smokers to composters and it’s easy bonemeal
It worked! Thanks sir!
When I do this, the kelp doesn’t grow at all and I get no dried kelp. Why isn’t it growing like in the video?
Let me know if you find out why bro...keep doesn't grow for me as well
For some reason whenever I turn the machine on, the sand blocks that are holding the kelp fall down under the sticky pistons while it’s running. Any thoughts as to how to fix it? (I’m playing on a multiplayer map)
Same here hoping for a solution
Within 1 chunk for maximum efficiency turn it 90degrees to insure it won't break
Try breaking any blocks underneath where the extended sticky piston arms are
i have the same problem
I remember a couple years ago i would fo this, but if you waited till the chest and hopper was full and collected the stack in the smoker it would give like 15 levels. But if you waited just for one more stack in the smoker it woud give you the same amount of XP cause it thought in smelted all the kelp in the chest again. Easy XP exploit back in the day
You know if it still works? It was my favorite xp method of all time
@@notimportant1000 it does not. Just gives the Normal XP once. No more exploit

You are like garp in one piece, you aare the hero of the bedrock players thank you
Is this outdated? because the kelp doesnt grow every second
Yeah the sand breaks almost immediately
It works fine, I suggest following every step exactly. He doesn't exoskeleton how or why a lot but a few notes, make sure you turn it off to replace kelp, build within a single chunk, make sure there are no blocks directly below the extended portion of the sticky pistons as that is the trick to getting zero tic growth, also do not leave this on if you are going to leave the area or the sand will fall.
Works for me on Xbox bedrock 1.20

The Redstone Dust isn't connecting to the Sticky Pistons, it just connects in a straight line.
I wanna know something.I was currenly playing on minecraft pocket edition bedrock, how do you check whether your farm is on chunk border or not?
Go to chunk base out grid lines zoom in and click on the border it will tell you when it starts and when it ends
Theres 2 ways. The first way is turning on your coords and seeing if the area is divisible by 16, if it is you are at a chunk border.
The second way is downloading a texture pack that highlights coordinates (can only do this pocket edition and windows pc edition). If you are downloading dont forget to srat safe from shady links
