During the big freeze, back in the winter of 2020-2021, the power went out at an HEB filled with customers at checkout waiting to pay and get home. They just let all the customers go with whatever groceries they had, no payment needed. HEB consistently has the community's back, I've never seen a business with so much good will and I've never had such strong positive feelings for any commercial entity. Plus their branded products are actually pretty good.
Was this at the Leander location? I worked in Service during that storm, and I've never been so proud to be a part of a community of people than when that happened.

I remember this, I was working as an Ops Leader for a neighboring HEB at the time. We were told it was cheaper to give the groceries away for free than risk an injury and potential lawsuit occuring if a shopper were to get hurt in the store w/out light or power. Essentially get everyone out as fast as possible by any means.

I hear stores in San Fran and Portland let people walk out with cartloads of free stuff daily.
I've lived in Texas for 38 of my 43 years, and I can attest, everyone here loves H-E-B. No other grocery store stands a chance. No one considers their brand products lesser than or inferior either. They offer so many on the shelf coupons that give away so much free stuff, it's incredible. "Buy these hotdogs, and get a free pack of buns and a bottle of Whataburger ketchup." Honestly, H-E-B is the shit. No lie.

I can atest that All Texas Love HEB. This is impressive because Austin is home to another hugely popular / Sucessful grocery chain. Whole Foods
HEB donated $10,000,000 to help build a new school after the Uvalde shooting. During Harvey, they kept all but one store open at various times during the hurricane. The one that was closed was flooded. They also were bringing truck drivers in by helicopter and making sure to keep their stores stocked with basics. Some stores only run by a single employee. They were also some of the first on site with free food and water. HEB really truly does care about Texas and its people. On top of that, they're a fantastic grocery store.

During Hurricane Harvey, we needed 18-wheelers to transport 300 pallets of donated goods to PORT ARTHUR. We emailed every company and HEB and Titos were the only ones that offered us those Trucks. ❤
I work at HEB and my parents are both managers and have been working there for years. They helped unload pallets and clean up debris after Harvey. I'm glad this company actually aids people in need and does the right thing unlike Walmart and im glada to hear you got help aswell.

One time when I was buying coffee at HEB, they were out of the smaller canister of HEB brand Colombian coffee and only had the big ass, more expensive canister. A store manager happened to be in the aisle & asked if I found what I was looking for- admitted that I was hoping for the smaller canister that I could afford. He hand wrote a coupon code on a piece of paper that I could bring to the register & get the big canister for half off. Literally meant to whole world to me at the time & I still think about it! HEB is the only grocery store for me

I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, so HEB was just what I considered a “normal” grocery store. It wasn’t until I started going out of state and visiting elsewhere that I realized HEB was so great 😂

Here in Northeast Ohio we have Marc's (shudder), Giant Eagle (eye roll), Meijer (I haven't been there so I don't know about them), and Heinen''s (they come close to H-E-B in terms of quality). I was spoiled by H-E-B when I was stationed in Texas. Nothing here in Ohio can compare.

I went to college in Lubbock, Texas, and there was no H-E-B in town at the time. So the students who grew up in Texas would receive “care packages” from their parents containing various H-E-B brand products. I got one every few weeks from my parents containing HEB brand cereal, chips, and other snacks.
Native Texans find it difficult to survive without a nearby HEB 😅

Yeah I lived in Lubbock a little while when I was a little kid right behind tinsel town and United and that was where we went, but man now that I live somewhere with an HEB the United store is like no competition compared to our HEB, idk.

The amount of care packages we send to family across the country is somewhat ridiculous.
Fun fact: H‑E‑B has an emergency response team that they send to areas in Texas that are devastated by natural disasters, where they then help out by passing out supplies and food to those impacted. This was recently seen in 2017 when Hurricane Harvey struck the coast of Texas.
H‑E‑B has a *considerable* amount of goodwill in Texas….and I’ve never quite seen anything like it anywhere else!

Between HEB and Gallery Furniture a lot of Texas families have been saved during natural disasters.
It's really funny how a grocery store was willing to do so much to aid the community during Harvey, when the big Lakewood megachurch had to be bullied on social media into providing any sort of aid.
My dad worked for H‑E‑B for 25 years- I grew up with great health insurance, discounted groceries, and my dad literally had his life saved because of H‑E‑B. This company is the biggest thing that makes me proud to be a Texan.

They donated funds to my family during a hurricane when our home suffered a lot of damage. My mom has worked their for 15+ years & they've helped our family so much over the years. I've got nothing but gratitude & respect for HEB.

HEB has actually only became a Texas thing in the last hand full of years. It was previously exclusive to south/central Texas. Texas is an enormous state and growing up in Dallas I had never even heard of it until moving to College Station for college. Now we are getting them in Dallas and other places in north Texas and we couldn't be happier! I just moved to Oklahoma 2 weeks ago and I am already missing HEB so much. Nothing compares.
I mean, it was always a Texas thing. Just not an all of Texas thing, and still isn't. There's still a lot of Texas that doesn't have an HEB.

As someone with a parent retired from H-E-B, a few notes:
- Just noting that the Pantry locations generally didn't close down, they just changed their name to drop the 'Pantry' moniker and modified their inventory to match a typical store.
- This isn't well-known, but good part of their profits come from land ownership and leasing. Find basically any H-E-B store and all of the land in its connected parking lot is owned by the company and the buildings are leased out to all of the other businesses in the area. They use a separate holding company for real estate. This is why it's rare to see an H-E-B take over an existing storefront as they're usually built in new locations that include the land.
- Someone else mentioned this already, but H-E-B engenders an enormous amount of good will with their emergency response and disaster relief across the southern U.S. (not just in Texas, and not just due to hurricanes), providing multiple truckloads of free food, water, and shelter to areas where disaster has occurred. A simple search about disaster relief should provide hundreds of relevant articles.
- The store-brand products are actually really good quality and are basically always cheaper. As someone that once stocked items ages ago, I can tell you that the store-brand products are often made in the same factories as name-brand products and are just given a different label, as evidenced by shipping receipts and label or case misprints that I've personally encountered.
- A *lot* of the fresh meat and produce sold at H-E-B is actually produced in Texas.
- All employees *and retirees* receive something called "Partner Perks", which includes occasional free items and a flat 10% discount on *all* store-brand products (ex. H-E-B, Hill Country Fare, Central Market, etc.). There are often further discounts around holidays that raise that to a 25% discount - there's actually a campaign going on right now for extra July 4th savings. This has been especially significant given the rising cost of groceries in recent years.

Creamy Creations IS better than Blue Bell, and Blue Bell lost all credibility as the ice cream of Texas when they murdered 3 people with Listeria rather than fix an easily preventable problem on their manufacturing line.

The cool thing about Central Market is that it isn't just posh H-E-B. It's where they test new items, basically the idea is that the people who are willing to spend the extra money and time shopping at central market are "really into food" as per their marketing and as such are willing to buy new and unique items outside of their comfort zone, (every time I go to CM i make sure to buy something weird and off the wall), allowing them to gauge consumer interests in new items and determine what to bring to their main stores.
I'm not Texan, but I'm Mexican... Specifically from Monterrey, where HEB Mexico's HQ is based on.
We consider HEB to be a relatively high-end store, mainly because of the imported goods taxes, as that really takes a big chunk of the price here. As other comments have said, it's really impressive how competitive their in-house/"off brand" products are, and because they also have days where produce (fruits and veggies) are cheaper than in other days (a shockingly common practice here between supermarkets), a whole lot of people really like to buy stuff from them.
Arguably the biggest reason why we also like HEB is, probably, because we are quite similar to Texas in the sense that we *LOVE* BBQing in the weekends for any reason, almost throughout the whole year. The market is quite comparable in these two seemingly different but relatively similar places.

That's the bad thing about living in the Mayan Peninsula. I'm from Tamaulipas, and HEB is so good for grocery shopping, especially because of the sheer variety, and of course the Combolocos. I seldom travel to the North, so I try going to HEB at least once.
Hi, as a Mexican in Monterrey, i can tell you that HEB here is also an institution, people love HEB, not only because of the "Texas" element, but the quality is better than national stores. As well as the partnership of local sports, just as with the Spurs, Tigres and Rayados, and for a time Sultanes, where HEB sponsored. So just as it is Texan, HEB is also Northern Mexican.
I remember being a college student at UANL - back in 2008 - , and I went to HEB to interview the NUEVO LEON HEB General Manager for a school project 🤓👍 my mom and I used to buy all our groceries there (at San Nicolás store) because the place was clean and they offered fresh produce, my favorite was the cafeteria where we would just sit there and have some coffee with molletes (I think that was the name 🤔), it was like a toast with refried beans and melted cheese with salsa on top 😋 I wish we had HEBs here in GA 😕
Bro! I’m from Monterrey too and I was there when they opened they very first HEB store outside of the US here in San Pedro. If I had it my way I would only ever shop at an HEB. When I got my new job and our “vales de despensa” only worked on Soriana my wife was so bummed.
Not just Northern Mexican, they have reached as far south as Guanajuato at least, probably further. And, like you note, they do an amazing job of presenting and ingratiating themselves as an integral part of the community. Heck, they even sell reusable grocery bags with the respective city's name on it. Have shopped at HEB many times, never once in Texas. And, interestingly, I've actually lived in Texas... just not the part of Texas where HEB is found (they don't exist in El Paso).
I've always said. Houston has two umbilical cords--Louisiana.....& Monterrey. When HEB opened up in North East Mexico, it just seemed like the next logical move.

In my sons birthday i ordered a cake from them. When i went to pick it up they made a mistake and didnt make it. So they let me pick any of the cakes there and they did a quick customization. Not only did they give it to me for free they also gave me everything in my cart for free in which i had all the party food which included 2 briskets and 3 18 packs of alcohol.
Had a similar experience they messed up on a letter of my name on my cake and they gave me the cake free plus any ice cream cookies and cupcakes
As did I at Central Market I had bought a premade salad and I had a hair in my salad. All I wanted was a refund, no biggie. The manager did refund me my money and gave a Bolognese pasta, which was awesome by the way, for free which was like $20 and the salad was $7. They're awesome!!!! I actually had declined the offer at first but he had convinced me...😁🙏🙌
They probably fired that employee for that lol

As an employee of HEB, i can attest to how well the company takes care of its workers. Been working in warehouses and distribution centers for 10 years, and heb is definitely the best place I've ever worked at.

As a Texan myself, I must say, HEB is one of those companies that make you feel like they would LITERALLY give you the shirt off their backs. From the community support to the employee interaction, HEB is THE grocery store of Texas.

Any time someone talks crap about Texas, I direct them to HEB and Whataburger. It makes living in Texas worth it. My sister has moved out of Texas multiple times, and hates not having an HEB anymore.
If you go to an HEB Plus in particular, you can find virtually almost anything you can dream of. Their fresh foods/meals in particular are FIRE.

A reason for H-E-B’s success that can’t be understated is their own brand products. Their brand products are usually cheaper than the name brand while also being generally better/more quality. Their creamy creations ice cream is probably my favorite store bought ice cream.
Fun fact! They held off on releasing Creamy Creations until it started testing better than bluebell in blind tests.
@@LaluMakesFilms That's actually the case for most/all of their brands. They won't release their version until it tests at 51% preference in a blind test. I actually like their versions of Ruffles and Cheetos more than the name brand versions.

I wasn't able to find defrosted shrimps in their fresh seafood section and asked the staff member why they didn't carry any, the next week, they started carrying fresh shrimps! this is why i love and will stay loyal HEB
I remember my fiancé once asked if they had a certain alcohol brand and they didn't, but like next week she saw it on the shelves cause the guy she asked ordered it after.
HEB is a cult and I am a lifelong member. I had to move away from Texas and I would instantly give away a kidney to get one here in Florida. Every single Texan I talk to outside of Texas ALWAYS says the thing they miss the most is HEB. They genuinely care and offer such quality products, they can not be beat. ❤
I've lived in Texas my entire life and what I can say, something you didn't mention, is HEB is considerably cheaper than other big grocery stores. This is especially true when you include the coupons they have placed around the store for a multitude of products. A lot of people would rather job at HEB because, as you stated, customer service is on another level. When trying to checkout you don't have to worry about a long wait time or using self checkout like you do at Walmart.
And no dumb card like krogers to get a discount which is still expensive
HEB was my first job, I was 16, and loved working there. Now I live just across the highway from "The Battery" a huge HEB distribution center full of HEB trucks going in and out at all hours. When the pandemic hit, shopping was rough, and I was caught totally off guard. The lines to check out wrapped all around the store. Within a week we had basic essentials, and food available, we wanted for nothing except stuff other companies weren't producing due to shut down. Thank God for HEB.
Can confirm! Not a native Texan, but been here for years now. HEB is the best grocery store without a doubt. I vividly remember the shortages my out-of-state family members would talk about during the pandemic. We just didn’t experience that in TX because HEB stayed on top of everything. They have the best variety of goods, freshest produce, friendly employees, and an overall customer experience that is unmatched. I wish more American businesses were like this because they truly are the best of the best.
South Texan here… I can confirm that H-E-B deserves all of the hype and accolades it receives. I shop there twice a week. It’s the best grocery store I’ve ever shopped at. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm from California, but have lived here in TX for about 20 years. I've never felt such loyalty to a company like I do with H-E-B. They're a cut above. They embody everything that makes Texas great and makes a company great: Kindness, compassion, camaraderie, a fierce loyalty to the community, an independent spirit, and the commitment to actually putting their money where their mouth is. It feels like they're on your team, and they back that up with their actions. Their high-quality employees bend over backwards for you. (The partners at my local H-E-B even remember me by name and ask how they can help.) Ultimately, you come out of H-E-B feeling better than when you walked in. And, I am happy to give them my business.
You really hit the nail on the head. One of the first words my grandson said was “HEB” because my daughter and I never say we’re going grocery shopping, we’re going to HEB. They already live the place because of the Buddy Bucks they get for visiting!
As a San Antonio resident i can confirm heb practically ran Walmart out of here there’s over 80 hebs here and each one has a different setup and it’s great they lanes are staffed and associates are happy and they help the community in so many occasions we almost exclusively shop there. 10/10
The HEB Market locations are S tier. They even have a burger restaurant.
Their private-label and fresh-made selection is really the differentiator. Buying tortillas and guac from H-E-B is just as good as buying them from an authentic Mexican restaurant. That alone keeps me going there every week.

The private label stuff at HEB is really the best I've ever seen from a grocery chain. I rarely buy any name brand stuff anymore unless it's on sale, and even then the store brand is sometimes the better deal.

I'm from Monterrey, Mexico 🇲🇽 and H-E-B has always been my go-to place for grocery shopping! When it comes to produce like fruits, vegetables and meats I've always found the freshest and best quality here compared to other supermarkets.
A lot of the own-brand products are really good quality too, so it's always a fun experience going to an H-E-B store~ it's always weird going to other states around Mexico and not finding HEBs commonly lol

@@SquidProQuo80 or S-mart, in question of quality the majority of the northeast mexican groceries stores have had a sharp decline the last decade, but HEB its allways a pleasant experience save for the crowded that it can get sometimes.
After Harvey, we were traveling down to Houston the help clear trees and help out any way we could. We left early in the morning and got stuck behind a convoy of 18 wheelers. When the sun came up we realized we were behind a convoy of HEB trucks. They were bringing truck loads of food and water. After a few days we found a few of the trucks were hygiene centers where people could take showers and do other things. I was truly impressed.
My boyfriend and I were shopping at our local HEB and found a “You’d think it’s butter” as their brand product for “I can’t believe it’s not butter”. Not only great products, but also funny 😂😂

As a native Texan, HEB is my primary grocery store. Theres 2 HEB pluses within 8 mins of me, and two more within 20 mins of me.
They have the best meat, cheeses, seafood, etc that other grocery stores really struggle at. Kroger sucks, Walmart suuuuucks, Wholesale like Costco and Sams in my area are packed, but the only other competitor imo is Target.
I’ll finish by saying HEB is a staple in our household, and I’m proud Company Man is giving HEB the recognition they deserve.

15 years ago, I worked at HEB for 4 years, and I still remember how awesome it was to work there. Everything you said about customer loyalty is right. I knew people's name, their daily members, it was always pleasant. Great video!
I have worked for HEB's grocery stores for 5 years as a cashier.
Honestly they have treated me well. They allowed me flexibly in my scheduling while I was in college, no questions asked. We have a "partners perks" where we get 10% of any HEB products, and there's lots of times during the year where we get bonuses so we'll randomly get a few extra hundred dollars just for being employees. We also get weekly perks or monthly deals as employees and sometimes the 10% off I mentioned earlier turns into 25% off during certain holiday seasons.
I even worked there during the COVID-19 pandemic when it started in spring of 2020, and they worked with me through everything, and let me take extended days off when I couldn't handle the stress, no penalty.
If I didn't already have plans to move out of Texas, then I would have seriously considered doing corporate work for them in my career since I'm already a partner with them, because those benefits are looking real good...they really are a great company to work for in comparison to a lot of other places.
Texans love HEB. They always help the community, treat employees and customers well, and their brands are great ❤

As a long-time Houstonian, I cannot imagine having to do without H-E-B , especially my nearby #HEB Montrose Market -- targeted squarely at our diverse community of educated, slightly upscale, tree-hugging progressives. This store is different from most and fits the neighborhood perfectly!

As a native Texan, the hardest thing about moving, is moving to a place without an HEB. I went to college in the DFW and HEBs were not prominent there. The best we had was a Central Market in Southlake, which wasnt very affordable to a poor college kid. I also spent a few years in Lubbock, and while they had good alternatives, no HEB was rough (though I heard one opened in that area about a year after I left). But then came the big one, when I moved out of state. My family loves where we live, but I’d be lying to you if I said we were happy with our grocery options.
Same I went to UTA and now live in Fort Worth and HEBs are so rare in this area. Have to drive at least 25 miles to nearest HEB
Oh man, ya I've live in Austin but grew up in Houston so obviously, I LOVE HEB. We've traveled a lot around the U.S. and haven't found anything even close. We are moving to Washington state in August and leaving HEB behind is seriously upsetting but we have actually worked out with one of our friends to send us our favorite HEB products every once in a while after we move 😁 AND on our moving trip we are stopping in California and Oregon to visit family that all have requested HEB brand stuff that we are bringing them. Top things for us are the triple chocolate granola, Texas pecan whole bean coffee, goji berry coconut bites and honey glazed pecans from the bulk food section, big crunch (their version of Cheetos which are soooo much better than the Cheetos brand btw) and all of their jam.

I retired from HEB after 20+ years. My only regret is that I didn't start working for HEB sooner. They donate so much to the local communities and most people never hear about it.

I love H‑E‑B. I moved to Texas from the Northeast almost 3 years ago. I shop there every week. No other grocery store compares to them. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The prices are great. They have take so much pride that they’re a Texas grocery store. They always say Here Everything is Better.
I can concur. After visiting TX for a few years I pulled the trigger and moved to San Antonio. I really do enjoy going to H-E-B as it's the only grocery store that challenges me to buy new foods to try out. I haven't been disappointed. And surprisingly....the most KETO alternative foods I've ever seen in any grocery since I've been doing it.
I've lived all over the US and have shopped at nearly all grocery store chains. HEB has the best combination of prices, quality and selection out of all of them. While filming some stuff for one of their charities I got a chance to meet Charles Butt and talk a little bit about the business. He's a great guy. They are always traveling, looking for new sources of products and business opportunities.
My grandma was a cashier for HEB most her life. She would single Christmas jingles over the intercom and had quite a following. The store manger there would give me $10 for making a B on my report card and $20 for A’s. I have way too many good memories of that store. HEB deserves their success.
Typically, store-branded products tend to be inferior. But so far, I've never found an HEB product that wasn't highly competitive. In some cases, they're even superior. HEB's corn tortilla chip is actually superior to every other brand that I've found. I hear similar things about their sodas, cookies, bread items, etc. They really do make quality products with their branded items.

I recently moved to Texas which is where my girlfriend is from. She was always raving about H-E-B and how I was going to love it. I went into one for the first time a few weeks ago and it did not disappoint. Friendly staff, clean store with a ton of variety, and the quality is great.
As an American in Mexico, it was nice when HEB started opening stores in my town (fourth one opening soon). They're not my first choice because they can run expensive down here but they've got some American products I can't find anywhere else.
As an HEB Partner and a native Texan, it is truly the greatest place to work.
They have an amazing culture, and I don't know one person that isn't genuinely happy to be there.

I've been working as a cake decorator at my local HEB for about a year now, and I really love it! Things can get stressful, obviously, but for the most part, it's clear that the store leaders really do care for us employees. We were given a $100 bonus just today, and groceries are 25% off for the rest of the month! Definitely better than any other place I've worked at
I was born and raised in San Antonio. I remember even as a little kid my DREAM job was to work for H-E-B. In august I’ll be working here for 4 years now! I’m now assistant manager of my department and only strive to keep going upwards in the company. I LOVE H-E-B!!! ❤🎉

Absolutely! I’m almost 70 and hands down HEB is the best grocery store I’ve ever shopped in. Their H‑E‑B brand is often not only less expensive than name brands but also superior. An example is H‑E‑B no salt added canned corn tastes like it’s fresh off the cob. Their customer service is excellent and community involvement exceptional. ❤
In September I suffered a ruptured appendix and once I was discharged from the hospital, I used the HEB online shopping for grocery delivery, and I have zero complaints about the experience. I'm a loyal HEB shopper.
My brother was just working at HEB to pay for college. HEB caught word about his degree track and they actually contacted him and offered to help put him through school if he would agree to stay with the company and work at their corporate office. He was less than a year from graduating by the time all that happened so he turned it down but if that doesn’t say something about the company I don’t know what does.
Also my brother worked at Whataburger at the same time so as Texans we’re very proud of him.
That’s genuinely so cool of them, plus a good investment in their company later. No wonder they’re such a popular regional chain 👍
I work in maintenance for HEB and we have an intern program for college students. They work part time with us while going to school for manufacturing, HAVE, automation, etc.
H-E-B Curbside is amazing. It was worth the $5 "personal shopper" fee - and that went away during the pandemic, as long as your cart is over $35. If we ever leave South Texas, HEB will definitely be missed.
My kids really wanted this bag of gummies that I couldn't find at HEB. My daughter asked someone stocking the candy aisle if she could help. That lady dropped what she was doing and tried to find the gummies. When she couldn't, she didn't quit. She asked one of her colleagues for help, who also didn't hesitate. The two of them literally went aisle to aisle until they located the last bag of gummies in the store. It was in the wrong aisle. No clue how they located it. They even offered to go to the back to get more bags for us.
This was on a Sunday afternoon (today 03/24/2024 Cinco Ranch) and the place was packed.
I am now a lifetime customer. Wonderful effort guys.
HEB moved to my small town in Texas and really made my town into a much more cohesive community. I don’t even know if that makes sense but there was only a dinky convenience store before that, so a nice new HEB really made the town so much easier to live in and expanded so many businesses that followed its opening. And their fresh baked bread right at checkout? ….. Glorious.
Here in Mexico HEB is one of the most expensive super markets but they offer the best quality and service.
I’ve lived in several states. Been in TX about a decade. HEB is the gold standard for grocery stores. They are a rare corporation that I feel really cares about their employees and customers. I won’t shop anywhere else. Everything the video said is true. And I’ve never seen a store handle being busy better than them. I can’t say enough good things about HEB.
Texan here. Heb has customer service unlike anything I've ever seen. They are incredible forgiving when it comes to things like returns of replacement of products. The management firmly believes customer retention is the #1 priority and it stands in stark contrast to Walmart's notoriously heinous customer service. I also worked for them in high school and they have and continue to pay well above minimum wage for even the lowest level positions. Positions there are actually highly sought after for uneducated labor because of their standards. Oh yeah and all employees get a free turkey for thanksgiving every year!
I'm 64 years young and a lifelong resident of Texas, I have lived in Houston, Dallas, Corpus Christi, the Rio Grande Valley and now in San Antonio, I remember HEB as an 5 year old going to the grocery store (HEB) with my dad and mom (may they R.I.P.) the stores we always clean and in Summer they were cool to cold, to this day I shop at HEB with my 28 year old and are very pleased with the Butt brothers as they truly care for the customers and go far and beyond to gives us the best products in the store from meats, to fresh cooked breads and dairy. I like all the options the store chain has for organic goods. All these years I have never had a problem with HEB. HEB cares about their community and VERY often give back to the elderly and those in need. I highly respect the Butt family for taking care of their customers, they also hire Seniors and people with disabilities to work at HEB, how lovely is that! God keep blessing the Butt family and our HEB's. I wont shop anywhere else.❤
I think the best thing about HEB is that their in-house products are genuinely really good. They have some pre-made meals that you take home and put in the oven (or on the pan or whatever) and they're great! They also have by far the best grocery store sushi I've ever had.
As a native Texan and lifelong customer, one of my favorite aspects of HEB is the store architecture. Each location has a unique design that is striking and unique unlike Walmart and Target that all look the same no matter which location you go to. It shows how HEB cares because it would be way cheaper to open new locations that have the same design, but they continue to design and craft each location independently.
We're getting a brand new HEB near us in Katy in the Spring. The one problem we have with them is the horizontal aisles. Stick with the vertical aisles. Especially don't mix horizontal and vertical aisles like they have in some stores. Hopefully our HEB will have all vertical aisles.

All the HEB's built during a period will look the same, and here in the Houston suburbs, you can tell when the HEB was built because it will look exactly like other HEBs built during that period. I have had the displeasure of visiting one in Bryan Texas! It reminded me of shopping in home depot. The entire store felt dirty. Guess I'm spoiled with Publix down in Florida

I had just finished chemo, and looked like a walking dead.... I had been lunk alarmed out of planet fitness for "not exhibiting a positive body image" and was in a rough place. So I went into the neighboring HEB to buy some comfort foods - snack cakes, ice cream (their HEB beaded ice cream is THE best....fight me, BlueBell.)
I was still weepy at the checkout counter, and told the lady what was going on - she looked at me and said, "If this is the self care you need to feel better after surviving treatment, you do it. It's on us."
I will NEVER stop shopping at HEB.
From Austin, born and raised. I will say, when traveling out of state I notice a sharp decline in the grocery experience and it truly makes me grateful for H-E-B. They’re always really clean, the “partners” (many of whom I know personally and are extremely loyal) are super friendly and the produce/meat is fresh, second to none really. I also know many people who’ve moved out of state (I am actually moving to Colorado soon myself) and there is always one thing they miss most- H-E-B. I know I’ll miss it too. One thing I think you didn’t touch on is the rich agricultural history in Texas, which explains why the groceries and H-E-B brand products are so high quality. You also did not mention Fiesta, which is another Hispanic-oriented grocery chain that operates in Texas and Mexico. I’ve actually never seen a Mi Tienda, but know where several Fiestas are. H-E-B really is the GOAT of grocery stores.
I got an emergency phone call and forgot the pay at the self checkout and when I came back an hour later to pay when I realized the girl was like "I didn't think you'd steal anything you're in here 3x a week, I figured something happened" and then I paid my bill and the manager was like "i'm glad you came back now I won't have to ding her for you leaving" so like

I'm not from Texas, but proud Mexican here. And I can tell you that this store is really popular among some specialized markets. It's the only place you can get particular items, specially rare spices and items.
Very happy and surprised to see many bros from Monterrey, Mexico in the comments. We’re not Texans but we’re HEB experts too. Ever since the very first HEB store opened in Mexico (Monterrey to be exact) in the late 90s they’ve been unstoppable. Just like in the US they’re not available in the whole country but in the few states that they’re in the dominate per square meter. And by that I mean they don’t sell the most because they have fewer stores than huge competitors like Walmart but no one sells more per square meter than HEB.
If like to correct one thing, it wasn’t “the lack of supermarkets” that made them come here. They knew ppl from northeastern Mexico visit Texas all the time and loved HEB so they decided to try their luck and boy did it work. I know many ppl who are a fierce HEB loyalist starting with my wife who still routinely goes to the very first HEB store that opened in Mexico.
For me? The number 1 reason I prefer HEB is their own brands. Anything with the HEB brand is super premium and good. I’ve yet to try any ice cream brand in a grocery store that’s better than HEB’s Creamy Creations.

That’s why HEB hit the ground running when they opened in Monterrey back in 97. Everyone and their mom here knew and loved HEB from our shopping in Laredo/McAllen/San Antonio.
Born and raised in Texas and HEB was the way of life. My mother worked for them for 28 years before she passed. As a single mom, she raised me, put me through college etc etc and HEB was always there for her.
I've lived in Texas all my life and HEB has been the place where my family shopped. Value, gas and carry everything we ever need.
Also, I worked at HEB in early 90's in Austin and met my lovely wife there whom I'm still happily married to. Great memories for us! Great place to meet and work with people.

Im mexican living in Monterrey México. I studied high school in Texas in early 1980s, i remember shoping groceries at HEB in Kingsville.
Many mexicans from states bordering Texas have known HEB from a long time, so it made a lot of sense for HEB to open HEB supermarkets in northern México. Mexican supermarkets in northern México are trying to compete with HEB in quality, but they are behind.
Now HEB has stores in 6 mexican states. Some HEB supermarkets in Monterrey are very fancy (even fancier than some stores in Texas). We love HEB

@@007Julie HEB is very community commited, one member of the Butt family moved to Monterrey, lived here with his family, got involved with our culture, his spanish is fluent and many mexican companies (fron small family companies to large corpirations) sell their products at HEB. 76 Stores now in México, Nuevo León was the first state in the city of San Pedro (Monterrey's metro area), other states with HEB stores are Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato and Querétaro.

I’m a native [South] Floridian so Publix was my first love. I moved to the Austin, Texas area last year and I can 100% verify the hype around it. I literally only get HEB Fuel and I have their new credit card that gives 5% cash back on their branded products! The stores are always clean and stocked, the employees are pleasant, and the prices are affordable - can’t beat that. Plus, their website, app, and curbside are top tier!

Same here. From palm beach moved to San Antonio and while I do live a good pub sub the H‑E‑Bs are better. Mine has fresh sushi and is walking distance from my house. The real insane thing is every H‑E‑B bathroom is clean and all the employees are always happy
i am a HEB employee, you think that 5% cash back is defeating the 20% interest rate you have to pay on your credit card bill each month? Nope. Bad idea. Cancel it. Again, I am an HEB employee and they don’t tell you about the interest rate they are charging you, whether it is 10 or 20 percent, either way, which totally cancels out the supposed 5% you are “getting back”. Some of us HEB emoloyees actually know about personal finance, and interest rates.

HEB has a fleet of disaster relief vehicles at the ready. When our area was devastated by fires, they brought in trucks with water and prepared food and even laundry facilities! They do a lot to build customer loyalty and it doesn't hurt that their stores are great!
One of thing I love about HEB it's the little shopping carts they have for kids. My son loves to grab his shopping card every time we go and pick its own items. It's so cute because he has a little sign that says training new customers. I'm glad my son enjoys it.
I’m 17 and was born and raised in Austin Texas. HEB gets better every year and is always making new food and products. They are always stepping up their game and their products are always fresh. Literally go there almost every day. Also their ready to eat food is amazing from sandwiches to sushi the options are endless bro. It’s amazing. Also the family behind the store makes shopping there so much better.

As a current employee, it makes me happy to read all the positive comments about HEB. Trust me, HEB cares DEEPLY about what our customers need and want, and so do our all our Partners. I'm a native Coloradan, but my parents are from Texas. One of the first places we stop at when we visit a Texas is HEB. It's truly fantastic to shop there. I've been to Wal-Mart, Safeway, King Soopers, Aldi, Publix, Dillions and HEB is the best. Great products and good prices. WIDE aisles to move around in. Everytime I run into a Texan here in Colorado, one of my first questions is, "Do you miss HEB?" I used to include Whataburger, but we have those now!

Mike, your assessment is spot on. I may not be a native Texan but I got here as soon as I could. I am a naturalized Texan, I have been here for 40-plus years. I grew up working in my family's grocery store. I have lots of operational knowledge of grocery stores and nobody does it as good as H-E-B. My wife will not go into a grocery store with me because she knows how picky I am about the store's operation.
Here is a fact that you did not mention, H-E-B is not unionized and their staff is compensated better than any store that is unionized.
When COVID hit they did a massive expansion of their curbside pickup and really saved the day for those of us who were considered high-risk individuals. Now that most risks for COVID have passed, we still use their curbside pickup for its convenience.

You nailed it. HEB has perfected the art of community driven markets. No two HEB stores are alike and you will find neighborhood specific items at each one. We love it.
Something else worth mentioning, if your local HEB does not carry an item you are looking for, you can speak to them and they will source it for you and try and get it on the shelves or get it to you directly.
When shopping at my local HEB, I constantly see (almost monthly) what looks like upper management walking the store with the local managers taking notes on the store. Seems like they are always looking at ways to improve each location.
Yup, and every HEB in our town has a specific nickname that gets organically applied to them by the community at some point in its life (ex: Club HEB, Kosher HEB, Tiendita HEB, Big HEB, Central Market Lite, etc).
yep, in the 80s when our local HEB stopped carrying the taco sauce that my dad loved. He spoke with an employee. They took down his name and phone number and in about a week we got a call that they had got the taco sauce in and it was on the shelfs. They asked if we wanted them to hold some up at customer service so we would be sure to get some if they sold out before we could get there. Such a great experience.
Amazing grocery store! So glad they have expanded here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I go out of my way to shop there and always end up buying a lot more than is on my list because their products are amazing and the people that work there take such pride in keeping the store clean and laying things out in a welcoming manner.
H-E-B is the best grocery store in the United States. I was born and raised in Texas, and since leaving, I have missed it so much. H-E-B has the best products, the best employees, and the best mindset. I miss Texas so much, I think I may have to move back.

I used to work there and one time during a hurricane, I heard that Walmart delivered one 18 wheeler with like 15-16 pallets of water and HEB sent 12-18 wheelers full of pallets of water. Like their motto says, "Helping Here"

I grew up in a tiny town in Colorado and have lived in Austin for 13 years. H‑E‑B blows any of the chains in Colorado out of the water. The selection, the customer service the fact that each one is just a little different, means it somehow still feels like a neighborhood store even though there’s so much overlap. It was definitely one of the things in Texas I was shocked to love so much so quickly. Whenever I go back to Colorado it’s just disappointing.
The neighborhoodness was what I was going to comment on. Like, I literally chose where to live based on the which HEB was nearest because each one is so different. Sushi bar at one might be non-existent, but closer to the coast is massive. Move closer to the latin population in a city and you have a huge taqueria in it with fresh-made hispanic foods of all types that you might not find in your own home. Move closer to an asian population and you'll notice that section of the store has more of the more Japanese or Vietnamese foods that people come in for. They know the area around their stores and cater to the population. It's the greatest experience you can find at a grocer when you known they actually pay attention to what people are buying and the changing demographics around it.
LOL, no they don't, Safeway kills HEB and it isn't even close, much better meat market (Albertson's is the same, same company), and they have actual options, not 1 national brand, to 5 store owned brands. Having lived in Colorado and being a lifelong Texan until recently, you must not have shopped at many places or lived in a crappy area, because in Denver the grocery stores are much, much better than any HEB I've ever been to in well over 30 years.
When HEB FINALLY started to build some stores up in north Texas like in Frisco and Plano, it really got popular overnight to the point I remember seeing Frisco police doing traffic on the weekends and store employees parking across the street because there were so many people. I know one thing is that it got central and south Texas transplants crazy as hell to shop back there again. HEB slowly took over the Houston area and essentially kicked out Randalls in Houston and Austin area.
I remember once an Albertsons opened here and I'm not sure they made it 3 years lol
I used to live down the street from Randalls off Ben White Blvd in Austin. My kid's grandmother still stays a few blocks away to this day. I hardly ever ever ever went to that Randalls. I would travel to HEB either on Oltoff or Brodie to do all my shopping. I'd get produce from Central Market off Westgate. All of those stores were way less geographically convienent
i was there at the opening week in frisco.. the line was so long they were handing out bottles of water and snacks😅. and that was on day 5 or something

As a native Dallasite, i have to say i prefer HEB's premium brand, Central Market. LOVE Central Market! Went to that new HEB in Frisco and it's just kinda "meh". Texas version of Walmart lol. It seems decent, they just need more locations in the metroplex, I'd gladly shop there over Kroger. Kroger over the last 5-10 years has just turned to garbage, at least in DFW; they don't do updates on the stores, they charge too much for their groceries, and you just get an overall bad experience shopping there. I'd love to see HEB run them out of business in Dallas!
HEB is the goat. Their store brands are always on par or even better than name brands. Their partners are always helpful and knowledgeable. HEB never disappoints.
One thing I appreciate while working for HEB is the sheer amount of food our store donates. Every day we collect tons of past Sell By dates (Not expired just past our selling window) and put them in shopping carts and leave them in Receiving and once a week shelters and food banks will come and load up their vans with TONS of bread, chips, frozen food, produce, cereal, boxed poptarts you name it. Unfortunately we dont make money on the product just tax breaks but its going where it needs to go instead of being thrown away. 2 carts a week regularly, after over ordering for events we have maybe 4 carts chalked full for donations at the end of the week.

They're finally opening them in DFW, I definitely spend more there on groceries now compared to the other stores.
The HEB products are generally very good, some are hit or miss of course. They also have a BBQ restaurant inside of my local HEB, as far as super-market BBQ goes, it's pretty good. It's not taking swings at Hutchins, but it's readily available, decently priced, fresh and tastes good.
It's very over the top TEXAS and I love it, I'll continue to give them my money.

H-E-B has actually expanded quite a bit, geographically. They started in south and central Texas, and it took quite a while for them to move up to the northern part of the state. It was about 30 years ago that they started moving into the southern parts of the Dallas / Ft Worth area. We're talking about the counties on the most southern part of the metro area. It's only been in the last ten years that they started to expand heavily into DFW. They put some Central Markets in at first, but have built a couple of H-E-B stores into other parts of DFW. There's a lot of East Texas that they aren't really in, so they have quite a lot of space to expand in Texas itself.
I just moved to Dallas for law school at SMU, i was so pissed there was only a central market near me lol! i dont wanna shop at Tom Thumb
The only place I've ever worked that leaned more towards "we are family". They gave raises twice a year, gave us bonus checks when they had a great profit year. They gave us Hazard pay for working after a hurricane. They retroactively gave us 100 dollars for every year we had worked in form of a 401kish.
It was great, did 10yrs there.
Edit: we also pick our houses based on the proximity of an HEB or a promised build of one.

Absolutely a first class organization! Before my retirement several years ago, it was an honor and pleasure to work with their creative staff. Our company produced the paperboard packaging for their ice cream packaging. Believe me, their ice cream product and packaging is Top Tier. HEB is the gold stsndard.
I’ve been a loyal H E B costumer for YEARS… I had to move out of their range and no joke at least 60% of the stuff in my entire house was an H E B branded thing…. I miss them! Literally nothing else I’ve tried since then has been as good as the H E B stuff…
Been watching this channel for years and have waited for you to make an HEB video. It’s honestly a really great store, there is lots of good stuff and prices. Very giving to the community and have a strong sense of Texas pride
