100% agree. So well shot/filmed. It appears as if the whole thing was not staged for the movie though of course it was. One of the great scenes in movie history. Frozen in time. It could not have been done more perfectly. 2:37 forward is particularly poignant.

Wow! This made me tear, remembering how NY used to be before the pandemic, and we all used to come out to dance whenever taxi drivers blasted music outside our HS, or whenever princesses went to Central Park and everyone got together for synchronized dancing. Those were the days.. 😌👍

The building they are coming out of is actually a church on West 46th Street in Manhattan, directly across the street from the former high school that inspired the movie and the TV series. The school wouldn’t allow the film to be shot in or outside the school. The church still stands; the high school has moved to Lincoln Center, although the building still exists.

2 years on from the passing of the director Alan Parker, just heard the very sad news…(Saturday, November 26th 2023) The soundtrack to our youth… Rest In Peace Irene Cara 💔😔
This song will always stay with me forever. It’s a shame music like this isn’t made that often anymore. This song drew many emotions and made me braver and happier and it’s sad that music today doesn’t convey the same feelings as music made in the past decades. Loved this song and Irene Cara for being the one to sing it.
