40 years later and still find it hard to believe any human can be this meticulous, technical, smooth, fluid, melodic, precise, etc. Utterly astounded every time I listen.
Been learning, and watching this man for 15 yrs. And he still amazes me. Years not lost for sure. When my wife passed, he sent me his condolences to my e-mail. A class act. Will fellow him for ever. Thanks DAVE.
He has all the chops in the world, but he NEVER overplays. He is a one man band. His solos are like compositions. I'm more of a Bonham, Ringo, Levon Helm guy, but there's something about Weckl's playing that stands out amongst every other drummer. He's truly a genius, and his playing has more integrity than probably anyone in the world.

Amazing feel, groove, and technical ability. My favorite drummer of all time.
Master percussionist is an understatement. The man is so accurate, so smooth, never looks like he's straining, stays relaxed, he makes it look easy! WoW!
Incredible fluidity, greasy feel, and razor sharp precision. Evetything you'd want in a drummer, and Weckl is it.

And that’s why he’s my favorite drummer… With so many amazing drummers out there it’s really hard to pick a favorite, however, Dave’s phrasing and style is so unique. He is the only drummer that I can listen to for hours on end without getting bored.

I have never heard another drummer that cam match him. Just complete mastery. He can play anything. Worldly rules does not apply to him. Such a joy to listen to a grandmaster.

Dave's most brilliant attribute is his ability to lift a soloist up without overpowering, once you stop and listen to what he's doing then go back and listen to soloist its amazing how musical he is. Obsolute got teir

Can't compare anyone else to Dave Weckl. He's his own masterful drummer.
Style, stroke, fluidity, stamina, speed, musicality, chops, timing on AND off, etc...
And that’s just his kick!
He's as nice to watch as to listen to. Relaxed, fluid, precise and totally immersed without going bonkers.
He's got the most amazing drum sound.............
Dave is just simply amazing no one compares to him. He’s so fluid it looks he’s not even trying.

His Back to Basics video was the first one I ever bought and still use that same approach to this day!

You nailed it. Such surgical precision. I have been watching/listening to Dave since I was 17yrs old ( 43 yrs old now) and he has evolved in so many ways.
The guy just keeps getting better.
Oddly enough it was that surgical precision that draw criticism from others early in his career. Nobody ever questioned his technical ability but it was often said his style was cold and mechanical compared to others (Vinnie, Gadd, Chambers, etc). It amazed me then and even more now that he still has critics.
The dynamic range is not created by the drummer.

It's off the scale. Nobody nobody nobody has his limitless ability, dedication, precision and technique and control combo. Equal greatest drummer of all time , a few contenders may be he's 1 of just 2 or 3 I would wager.

In the late 80s, early 90s, I used to go to Studio Cafe on Balboa Island and watch Chick Corea's Elektric Band and sit in awe of Dave Weckl's effortless fluidity and amazing technique. My favorite drummer for sure.

omg...this flow.....Over the years i think his flow and his mastering of his technique keep getting better and better.
Dave will always be a point of reference for future drummers many years from now.
Been a weckl fan since the mid 80s. That's my favorite weckl era the 80s and early 90s. But still love his playing. He changed drumming history forever with his unique vocabulary and precision drumming. A completely different approach than any other.
Lived in Bella Napoli for 5 years from 1968 to 1972. Loved it and the people. Bet they loved watching you hit those skins..
He is the best drummer on the planet and at the same time remains so humble...

I've played and replayed and re-replayed Dave's CDs because I'm so blown away by the total command of every note he plays no matter how fast he flies. I've been a huge fan of Dave's for over 30 years. His autograph is my favorite all time. Just listening to him makes me a better drummer for sure.
Truly amazing. I don’t think there’s any drummer that is capable of all the areas of drum playing that Dave is. A master and a great guy. I’ve been to 3 of his drum seminars and he’s very thorough and personable.
The 1st Electric Band album in the 80's changed my life as a drummer. Every musician I know was talking about this new kid that was doing things on the kit that seemed impossible at the time. It was hard to comprehend what you were hearing. When it came time for The Master Plan every musician on earth knew who he was. I love to listen to many drummers but I always go back to Dave and his immense sense if pocket and groove. Just an incredible body of fabulous work.
Utterly inspirational. His fluidity of movement and relaxed playing style is phenomenal.

Man I could watch the guy all day. He just floats. Best touch in jazz drumming. And is so prolific. Never repeats himself except on the occasions it is necessary. Makes me want to get better and give it all up at the same time.
What Bruce Lee was to martial arts,so is Dave to percussion,fluid as water!! I was a berklee college of music alumni from 1992-94. Majored in drums and percussion,1rst heard Dave,wanted to pack my kit and leave,glad I decided to keep playing!!
Dave never lets you down! He's just got that greasy swag and slick groove. I've been watching him since I bought that VHS tape of him "back to basics" when I was a kid. Like a fine wine Dave gets better with time. Love listening to him!

SanPedroGraphics Vinnie. But hey, I'm not saying either one of those are "better". I just love to listen to Vinnie's craziness. Always something new and unforeseen. That's what I like about Colaiuta. The excitement!

I love them both too. Vinnie just seems to be a bit more musical to me. I spoke to Oz Noy and asked him who he liked playing with better. He didn't say specifically but he did say that he has never played with a drummer like Vinnie before. He did say that Steve Ferrone had the best pocket though.

It's sounds amazing agree. Personally I didn't like the reverb effect on the snare.

Dave just continues to get smoother, and more fluid by the day it seems. So incredibly musical, and interesting to not only listen to, but to watch as well.

Dave is an amazing, very gifted drummer! His solos are brilliant! They flow from him with the greatest of heart! I've taken a master class with him and came out of it with fabulous information about how to improve! God knows I'll never attain that level but it was so great learning from him!
