Friday Harbor - a scenic flight in the Bonanza

  • The Pacific Northwest is stunningly beautiful, especially on a nice summer day like the one I flew from SeaTac (KSEA) to Friday Harbor (KFHR). Gorgeous views of the water, islands, downtown Seattle, and iconic airports like Boeing Field and Paine Field make this short flight highly interesting. From Friday Harbor it's just a short walk into town.

    G,day Martin from Sydney Australia. Thanks for the latest addition to your channel. The Bonanza 70TB is "purring like a kitten." No courtesy car at the airport, there's usually an ex- police car parked around... surely?
    The colder air temperature must be there now? Better combustion; hey?

      @martinpauly  Před 8 měsíci

      Most airports in the US do indeed have a courtesy car, but I didn't see anything like it in Friday Harbor. And it wasn't a problem - it was literally less than a ten-minute walk into town. After flying all day from Iowa to Washington the day before, I needed a little exercise anyway!

      And flying is mostly easy if one is prepared. I usually don't like arriving somewhere and then having to "wing it". Thus I walk through these things like pattern entry before I get close, and I teach my students to do it that way, too. Makes it easy once we get there!

    I’m still trying to figure out the speeds and power settings for the different phases of flight in the bonanza. Every POH I look at is a little bit different. It was interesting that you cruise at 2500 RPM when I would think it would be around 23.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  Před 8 měsíci +5

      In my opinion, the POH makes it look more complicated than it needs to be. I cruise wide open throttle, 2500 RPM, lean of peak. If I want to reduce cruise power, I start by pulling the RPM back (2400 or 2300 RPM). Or lean more aggressively (which means less HP when on the lean side).
