    Good classical way - I prefer the pressure bleeders they do cost more but well worth it - you should run the old fluid out until it’s the same colour as the new one and you won’t risk damaging the seals on the brake pedal system if you should press the pedal too far. It’s also a one person job with a pressure bleeder. The clear plastic pipe to make you DIY bleed bottle is 5x8mm clear PVC tube and remember to make a two hole in the bottle top 7/8mm one and a much smaller hole next to it to let the air out. You need no more than 2 litres for a full all out flush and about 1 litre for a regular change. Hope this helps some one. Do every 2-4 years BMW recommendation is every 2 years I believe. Peace. G.✊🏼

    I did this the easy way last week. I took my car to BMW North Oxford. They did a brake fluid change, full check of the rest of the car, wash and vacuum for just £65.40 all while I waited and enjoyed the complimentary hot chocolate and biscuits.

    Another good video George.
    You should have a look at installing speed bleeders, you can change the fluid not needing another person to push the pedal.
    No air or fluid can re-enter the brake system once the bleeder has been cracked open to flush it.

    You should be using DOT 4 LV which is a low viscosity fluid. E.g. ate sl6 fluid!

    • @dannyboywhaa3146
      @dannyboywhaa3146 Před 2 lety +2

      I think he just used some old dot4 he had to help flush the old fluid through the system and then he used the dot5.1. However, you are right because dot5.1 tolerates higher temperatures (mostly used by bikers or track day chaps) similar to super dot4 and both are more expensive and will need to be changed more often, whereas the dot4 low viscosity will easily handle enough temperature, so it’s a bit pointless and a waste of money. 👍

      The DOt 5.1 will also ruin the hydraulic system in E series.

    Does the computer recognise that you have changed the brake fluid and thus turn off the brake fluid service warning light in the vehicle service information on the on board computer or do you need to turn that off separately? I’m hoping to do it myself you see, as you have shown so excellently 👍

    Did this on the X5 today, my fluid looked rather dark aswell, but my wife wont help so i just make sure the tube is submerged in old fluid, then press the pedal about 10 times then on the final time wedge the pedal down with a stick between it and the drivers seat, then shut the valve. Then same on next wheel, it seems to work ??
    Think the recommended fluid is dot4, so why use dot 5.1 ??
