Don’t use PVC pipe for your air it can explode. Watch Larson Farms they just did a episode on this with there new air compressor installation
We had our 4” blow up. Sent shrapnel everywhere. Pvc is not good for air at all.
PVC pipes for air will last a few years. Once it explodes once, you will have more explosions after you repair it, as the shock weakens the rest of the line.
Unless they make this pipe better than they used to.
Has this stuff in my workplace and had to get rid of it.
Bad idea to hide PVC in the sprayfoam When it lead it is major repair
Just moved into a shop that has it partially installed and I figured its life span was pretty short. Should've used metal pipe.
@@steinjonah660 well, at least the foam will contain the shrapnel.
Just curious, what the burst strength of 3/4 schedule 40 pvc pipe is?
@@donabresch8719its written on the side of the pipe, as the temperature goes up, the strength goes down. Never ever use it. Never.
The Problem with PVC Pressure Ratings
Pressure ratings on PVC pipe can also lead to confusion. Many PVC pipes are rated for 300-600 PSI. Since the average industrial compressed air system is pressurized to 100-125 PSI, this may sound like it is more than enough. However, there are several problems with this assumption.
The rating is for the pipe itself, not for seals and joins. PVC is notorious for failing at the joints when used for compressed air. Many adhesives used for PVC piping are not compatible with compressor lubricants, making a failure just a matter of time.
Pvc is a no go for compressed air. It doeant always go wrong (insert comment of someone that has used it for 100 years here), but when it does, it splinters and those splinters get propelled by the air.
If I had known that you were doing your own wiring of the shop, I would have volunteered to do it for you. I just hope that there are not too many inspectors watching because there are many non-code and even violations happening here. Be sure to test each and every circuit before spray foam, otherwise it will be a nightmare to trouble shoot any issues and even worst to repair, ask me how I know! If you get in over your head give me shout, i'm retired now so I have the time. Everything is looking good can't wait to see it in operation.
You are doing a good job with the shop good thing some one is helping you Paul with the wood it's not metal so he cut it wrong you can't weld to Shown and Dan and Landon and Chase has been a big help to you some of the new shop and we see Michelle's Jeep and there I am so looking forward to seeing what you going to do to her Jeep it would be nice if you kept it all original but I know you you got to do as long as it ain't no mountain dew I love you all's channel Paul
@gunnytinmanChange the bait, not biting on that on. NEC is the minimum Code requirement
I’m sitting here stunned that they broadcast this video.
What did they do wrong
I'm curious what violations? They Are Smart people and I'm sure They Had to have a building permit to build and I've seen in other videos where they are waiting on inspectors to come check it off before moving forward, so I'm sure if anything isn't up to NEC code they will take care of it
It's a bit scary watching you guys do electrical... I'm an electrician and lets just say there's a few code violations. But that's ok, it's not recorded for everyone to see or anything.😄 As far as switches for your walk through lights, do yourself a massive favor and put in lights with occupancy sensors! You just leave the switches on and no matter what door you come in from overhead or pass doors the lights will just come on. Great for when your hands are full or you drive in and the lights just come on. Bonus the kids won't be able to leave the lights on because they will shut off by themselves!
I really hate being on a lift or behind a rack, and all the lights go off in the room. They really aren't necessary with LED's.
Now we all know exactly where to cut in the wall to disable all the security cameras at once!
Good to see Socks is still around, he'll be a great critter catcher for the shop
PVC will deteriorate with time and become brittle. I don't think that It is a good choice for an air line with all the pressure. It's also too easy to break if you're rough with the connections.
Agreed. I have personally seen what happens. It isn't pretty! 😢
OSHA has left the building
Especially if it's exposed to sunlight!
If you wanna go cheap put PEX Plumbing pipe in. It’s not as good as iron, but it will not explode and send shrapnel through the shop.
I hope those runs of wire for the cameras are shielded, or those shop lights don't have ballasts, otherwise, you may have cameras with lots of noise in the images. We even had one that would go off and back on because of electrical noise.
Moe, Curly, Shemp & Larry electricians extraordinaire! For future reference, if you need more wiring conduit can be run over the foamed walls... 😊
According to (OSHA) pvc piping for compressed air lines is a no no, because it can rupture when impacted and send shrapnel flying, (Ask me how I know)
I've always used Copper, Pex or black iron piping for compressed air lines, just a recommendation, the shop is looking great, been watching this channel from the start and look forward to the content on the scheduled day's!
Larson farms just had theirs re-done and they explained this as well. They used aluminum piping, with some pretty cool connectors
They might be okay if they’re covering it with foam, but still pretty sketch… especially with all that pex sitting next to the pvc at the hardware store 😂
I also just watched the Larsons farms video this week on compressed air in proper lines. I had no idea of the stories that have happened with PVC. Highly recommend it just so you know what you’re getting into Playing the percentages.
As I said in a previous comment, I've witnessed a catastrophic failure of PVC used for air. Violent explosion that sent a PVC spear hard enough to chip concrete.
@@feikebanning532 Yeah and I've been hearing from supervisors in factories for the last 20 years that a papercut could lead to an infection that kills me... People keep looking at the worst case scenarios without acknowledging how much PVC still gets used and nobody gets hurt. Acting like what they've done is a death sentence.
YAY!
Good morning Janelle! 🐿
Watching Ben doing the wiring in the rafters reminded me of Po in the Kung fu Panda movie. Ben was imagining a cookie up there by the roof. Haha. Good stuff Fab Rats the shop looks terrific.
I like the "NOT A WORD". You guys say some shit that just isn't a word. Love you guys. Cheers!
Paul, a much better bit for drilling holes lumber is a spade bit with a screw tip. They come in many sizes, and they suck themselves into the wood. They do the work for you.
In actual construction, when we’re “running rope” (pulling Romex), we use auger bits. 12” or 18” long 3/4 or 1” bits in a 1/2” drill motor. Probably drilled a 100,000 studs over the years.
Well that will nice ,breathing room for your shop. Have a great week and count your blessings amen.
Tons of work building the new shop. Tons of new projects will be done within. Great ❤❤❤
good job u all!

I'm not afraid of heights, ladders, or electricity.
However I do respect that all 3 of them share one trait. They're all looking for the path of least resistance to ground.
Be safe guys.
Insulating a shop is the best money you can spend and more important to me than anything else.
Here in lower Alabama near the Gulf Coast we have extreme heat and the worst humidty. If you properly insulate, you can tell a huge difference immediately. Congratulations Fab Rat Team.
absolutely agree and being a CZcams channel it's also much better for sound deadening from Heavy storms I remember before the shop was insulated you couldn't hear much when it was storming outside beside the echoes from the metal Being pelted with wind and rain
So many scary wiring situations. Your local inspector must be a good friend. 😳
Its amazing what you guys have accomplished under pressure. I think Hunter should take fair warning, if you poke the bear, you're always going to have to watch your back. Lots of fun, thanks for the video.
Ben climbs around like I do. Our brains don’t always recall that we aren’t as young and agile as we once were. We don’t bounce as well either. But we still do it. Go Ben!
Nice to see other owner/builders getting put through their paces and paying dues. Figure'n runs, figure'n capacities, chace'n cable, etc. are all part of the fun. The sound difference between a room that is sheeted on one side before and after insulation brings a satisfaction only a DYI'er can appreciate. You're almost there!
Great seeing this channel grow with the new bigger shop..couldn’t happen to better people!
Your 'Fab'ricating knows no boundaries. I've lived my whole life that way. Whatever needs to be done, get after it. If you hit a snag, phone a friend.
I am super jealous of your new shop. Every guys dream. It is kind of sad to see that you need security cameras though. We all know what that means.
All that extra workshop space, and you take it up with a break-room, office and toilet doesn't leave much for the workshop.
Dont get an oil-buring furnace!! put a 20kw solar panel array on the workshop roof that will power the whole workshop and the house and use it to run a R/C airconditioner. Make sure to chop down the trees that shade the roof so it gets the maximum sunshine. You don't run compressed air around a workshop with white pvc plumbing pipe!
PVC air lines?????? I'd rethink that!
Oh yeah the Fab Rats team is on on deck and prepping the new shop for electrical wiring, security lights, and concrete pouring. They even mounted a door! New chapter for the Fab Rats team! Always good to see Grandma Lolly she's so precious! These guys sharpened their electrical skills and plumbing too. Making good progress on the new shop. Good video.
An OSHA field day
Agree on the electrical no no s. I would have used conduit seeing as the almost industrial type building. Plus you would have access to the wires after spray foam. And PVC for air line is a HUGE violation. People have been seriously injured by pvc pipe bursting.
It’s hard watching y’all do construction. That door for starters. Oh my!
It's not that you screw up, its the fact you know how to fix it when you do! Awesome work guys!
As an electrician I am MORTIFIED! I wish a few of us could've volunteered a weekend....🤦♂️
Same lol looks like spaghetti
I can hear someone telling his attorney, “I watched a video by guys who are car builders. Who knew they were semi-clueless builders? I didn’t until my shop burned down.”
As a non electrician, I am impressed. 😂 I am an "internet electrician". Something goes wrong I can't figure out, internet here I come. Turn the power off before you start and what can go wrong? 🤔😉
Well, don't you know this crew is PROUD of their "good enough" way of doing things?
Bunch of bureaucrat nonsense is what this is. The work Paul did isn't "code worthy". It's effective though... And it's pretty unlikely anything bad will happen.
I've seen far worse electrical work. Just because it wont satisfy the tax man that doesn't mean it's going to kill people or cause problems.
Man, I haven't heard "How Now, Brown Cow" in 50 years!! Thanks for the flashback, Paul 🙂
Great job on the shop I'm sure Ben climbing around was all OSHA approved and safe...lol
don't you worry about speed on the rollback build Paul, Your a hard working family man, who's always helping friends, Family and the community. you have many irons in the fire and have to juggle them all to keep them hot. I think you're a stand up guy, and put out great content for us all, I'm Glad you have Ben, Sean, Landon, and Sometimes Hunter (just kidding Hunter) to help you out! and great of Michelle's Bro helping on the new shop also. You have enough deadlines without making any added stress, you'll get that rollback done when ya can, and us loyal viewers and fans will be sitting here watching every video in the meantime!!I also really enjoyed seeing the couple mud recoveries the other day. I love seeing you use the Wrecker as Grandpa Sherm would've and not just keeping it as a beauty queen although it is gorgeous. could listen to that Big block work all day long!! I used to be a Early to mid 70s Ford man and still love that era and own a 78 f250 but you really have made me love square body Chevy's the only other guy I know who really shows their love on CZcams for square bodys is Derrick over at VGG. he collects them like baseball cards too!!🤘😆🙏🏼✌🏼
I think trying to get the rollback done quickly was more about making sure it actually get done before a lot of other builds get started.
You're exactly right, it would take any of us normal folk two years to build that truck, so I'm not gonna fuss about timelines, I've built shops at work, and it's a huge job
@@agentcrm I'm sure you are probably right about that! I bet they have all the upcoming projects that we know of, and probably have just as many that we don't know about that are top secret, I'm really excited to see that old bus build, which I know has to wait until they can get it into the Big Shop. I'm also excited to see Michelle's Jeepster, and them put That nice engine from her wrecked rig into it, I think that's also gonna be a cool build. Also I didn't think I'd be as interested in Jaces Dodge Dakota build but I am enjoying following the progress of that build, and the fact that Paul built and wheeled his own Dakota back in the day makes it even better because he already knows strengths and weaknesses and what works and what doesn't it will be cool to see Jace Wheel it in different places like Moab, and Sand hollow
Fantastic show on shop build. God bless you all.
No Fish & Game on the next visit; but a visit from OSHA😮. Dang spidy Ben.
This reminds me of doing projects like this with my dad when I was a kid. Good times!
Pvc for airline? That's shrapnel when it explodes. 😬
Sweet y'all had a boat load of fun I can tell
Love the old school Swiss army knife (or whatever brand) to strip the electrical wires. As usual a fantastic diversion to my "real world" - thank you all!
Lots of work put into the new shop Paul. You and the guys did a grand job getting it together, even Horizontally Challanged Ben. (kidden Ben!) Will be one of heck of a place you guys will have to work in. Glad to see it happening for you. 👍👍👍
Outstanding! Absolutely outstanding!! Paul & Co, Managed to get such a tremendous amount of work done, and then squeezed into this video for all of us to watch by going along with them!!
Bravo to Michelle, Who I call, the un-sung hero of FAB-RATS! we hardly ever see her on video. And yet we know that she is a driving force and get so much done behind the scenes so we can watch every video.
She deserves a lot more than you could possibly know folks. More than you could possibly know.
you'll have a great looking shop when it's finished and it's great having a security camera just keeping things safe...and the spray foam insulation will keep your shop warm and hopefully cooler in the summer heat...great work..
PVC is not recommended for air lines. But great video. Can’t wait to see things wrapped up!
was wondering about the PVC for airlines
No wondering needed it's a bomb waiting to go off. It's a trip to crazy town.
Shop addition is looking amazing!!!! Can't wait to see it finished. The rollback project can wait.
Congratulations, it's looking great. There's lots more room!😊
Bens funny, to paraphrase, "I just came in on the last one to make it look like I'm doing something". Nice job.
That place is so big you should get an auto scrubber for those floors it'll keep the dust down
Hunter definitely seems to be the most involved camera man on you tube... Good stuff👌👍🏼
This crew absolutely rocks, a group of hard working people that has fun doing it.
Fab Rats the new shop is coming together awesomely. 😮. Can't wait to see more updates an projects and many more videos soon my friends. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God bless.
Goooood morning everybody and thumbs UP to Fab Rats! 👍
And it's YOUR turn again.Richard!!!!! YAY!!!!!🥳
Excited to see the finished shop. Ya'll have worked so very hard and I think you thought of everything you will want.. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
I wish I could have helped with the wiring. I’m a retired EE that is short and skinny. I’m the person that was always sent in to do the tight spaces work.
I always found it amazing how much time I could relax by hiding in tight spaces. 🙂
Hey Dar. Good to see you and glad you’ve recovered from your surgery. I’m an old crushed stone and gravel quarry man. I know how hard it is to keep things running.
So glad you actually read the comments I absolutely love the way you add all your family the content is always spot on wish I could of seen Paul at kc was in the VA hospital at the time he is probably in my top 3 fab guys in the world in comparison I have met a lot
Just like mechanics/fabricators doing building work, looks great guys. Can’t wait to see it all done and working, good luck and enjoy it.
That shot of Ben up in the dark corner on that beam was like catching a crazy leprechaun lurkin' about!!!
Shawn, you hoser. Ty for taking us along
Congrats on the addition and the progress!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
That's a sweet upgrade to the workspace!
Yep. The extra space will be great.
Surprised they didn't step down the new concrete slabs outside of the old shop to channel the additional water away from going under the garage doors.
This shop is going to be an awesome asset for the fab rats great group effort!
Hard work, Some Perseverance…. Pays Big in the End…. Nice to see Good things Happening to Great People…. Fab Rats……👍😎
Man oh man! Wish I had u guys at my shop.. your helping me motivate thanks rat pack! The things we do for hardest hobbies/ life.
The new shop looking good!! You guys rock big time! Awesome progress! Thanks for sharing! Best regards from Norway!
So happy for you getting the new shop. Every man who ever tuned wrenches dreams of that day. Great video!
Shops looking awesome! Can't wait to see the final product
That is so cool how you added a Google Maps location in the description section, if anyone would like to hire you for a fabrication project or towing job! I hope you let Matt know to do that for his business as well! I want to see you guys get tons of customers!!!
No pin needed. Just search Fab Rats in GM
You guys break all the safety rules just as well as professional electricians. And getting your own mother to work for free is definitely a pro move.
Coming along well guys
Paul
jezz, NEVER use rigid pvc for compressed air. Ticking time bomb.
Love watching grandma she makes the show.
enjoy your videos . i am not one to comment, however I needed to on this one. Guys PLEASE BE CAREFUL.. I own a small shop that I run by myself. I do PM service on diesel trucks .Mostly big trucks. on Jan. 2 2023 I was working on the shop lights, I was coming down latter, thought I was on the last rung but I was on the next to the last rung. I stumbled off latter and fell into my oil change pit. I broke my neck & damaged my spinal chord. I am now paralyzed from my chest down. Don't mean for this to be a sob story. just wanted remind yall that things can happen so quick that you may not be able to recover from. So now I spend a lot of time watching regular people like me on CZcams. Please be careful, and keep the videos coming.
The electrical box should have been surface mounted instead of hacking a giant hole that is about impossible to seal properly. Judging by the other electrical work, no one here is an electrician or is the work being inspected.
I'm jealous of your shop addition. Great job gents! Always have fun when working!
I love the "to do list" carboard cut outs always! Love our Fab Rats!
New construction is is awesome by itself. And when you’re doing it for yourself it’s so much more satisfying once completed! Love the hard work by all!!! So much more storage for Mountain Dew.
I'm pleased for you guys. Great work.
Regular ole galvinized water pipe from local hardware store works great for air lines. Put an air dryer with drain in-line on supply side, will help with the amount of moisture that will collect and get into air operated items, also helps to extend the life of your pipes.
5:30: Cat 6.
I have an amazing team in the cyber world that totally gets things done, frequently operating outside their realm because bunches of smart people tend to get things thrown at them.
You have an amazing team that gets thing done in a few other worlds because it all gets thrown at them. So fun to watch and compare. No comparison, totally the same.
Just a tip for the next wiring project: attach a string to a broom handle or painter's pole, and run that the whole run. Then electrical tape all your cables to the string, and pull them (and more string) in a single pull. No more ladder moving. Be sure you pull fresh string with the cables, so that when you need to add more cables you already have a pull string.
New shop is looking great. But it is painful watching y’all run wire. Lol. Keep the videos coming, enjoy all of the content.
Yay. Been waiting on the video drop all night.
💯🤪Same. SUNDAY FUNDAY
Gentleman,you are amazing!
Best wishes in the new shop.(Geez you could work on a firetruck with that high ceiling.) Good Health and Safety to you and yours
Oh yes got to get the new shop done need the space the wrenching and fab work on hold.Great to see everyone working well done guy's thank you for sharing
I love how the guys work together so well. And all the while they are smiling and joking with each other. Hunter gets grief from some for "not working", but his laugh is infectious! Ignore the haters Hunter. You are a great addition to the Fab Rats team!
Does your boyfriend know about your crush on Hunter and his "infectious laugh"?
You should never use PVC for air lines. Copper or threaded steel lines rated for air pressure should be what you use. I’ve seen PVC explode before.
I have also witnessed a catastrophic failure of PVC used for air. Scary AF. A big spear of it was propelled fast enough to chip the concrete floor. Sounded like a rifle shot.
100% percent correct. It will send razor sharp shards clear through you.
Yep, super cold day (below freezing) and at work a guy turned the compressor on and he came out to help me and a couple minutes later we heard a loud bang. 2 different ice sickle shaped shards of PVC were sticking through the side of a shipping container.
I agree completely! PVC should NEVER be used for air lines! If you are going to use PVC, at least use schedule 80! You ARE going to have problems with it, it's just a matter of time! I give it until the first cold snap of winter before the first major blowout! I hope everyone is safe from the shrapnel WHEN it blows!
My shop is pvc, multiple scary explosions, we just keep fixing it… law suit waiting to happen
Well at least every one of those cables is sprayfoamed and will never move again. Good job lol
I also love the fact you enter the room while the guy in the hazmat suit is spraying deadly gas. Epic
Those truck frames are designed to be flexible and do not require plating unless there are connection issues. Boxing a c-section is good idea for high stress locations such as bumpers front and back. I say watch how much weight you are putting in 4x4 rigs! :)
Paul
it is a pleasure to see your channel grow and prosper
solid work ethic, family values…
also
love the contributions of Michelle and Ben!
Using PVC for compressed air is NOT good and very risky.
3/4" PEX would have been a better option.
Yea should have used the blue flex line for air. Not that expensive either.
Or copper like in Australia
Schedule 80 pvc is used in shops all over America for air lines
😂😂😂
Their is a secret club in Utah called : "The Cracked front Window Gang". When we watch fabs, Matts, Robbies etc. each time we see a cracked front window, any vehicle, we shout: "bulleyes, Crack!" and throw a Mtn Dew can at a Coors bottle (after chugging it). Great Dorm or Frat party game. Then we eat a piece of superhot jerky and run for the bathroom.
It's called CONCRETE, Paul. Cement is what you mix with sand and gravel to make concrete!
Shouldn't use pvc for air that stuff explodes and people could get hurt
PVC for air never. Everyone that uses it eventually finds out why.
no!!!!! pvc
PVC will hold air pressure fine, however the glue will beak down, on a very hot summer day we had four pipes let go in the shop I worked in, sounded like a mortar going off... No one got hurt but it knocked down an amazing amount of collected dust, and a couple of guys had to change their pants.
@@steveky7829 35 years and 105 heat (at the floor, ceiling is way hotter) and nothing yet. And my cabinet shop could use a dusting!
Wow! Nice big new shop.
Congrats 🎉
