༄༅། །རྒྱལ་བ་ཚངས་དབྱངས་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་གསུང་མགུར་གྱི་ནང་དོན། A Commentary on Song of The 6th Dalai Lama

བྱ་དེ་ཁྲུང་ཁྲུང་དཀར་པོ། །
གཤོག་རྩལ་ང་ལ་གཡོར་དང༌། །
ཐག་རིང་རྒྱང་ལ་མི་འགྲོ། །
ལི་ཐང་བསྐོར་ནས་སླེབ་ཡོང༌། །
You, bird, white crane,
Lend me the power of your wings!
I won't fly far:
Just to Litang, then home again.
ཤར་ཕྱོགས་རི་བོའི་རྩེ་ནས། །
དཀར་གསལ་ཟླ་བ་ཤར་བྱུང༌། །
མ་སྐྱེས་ཨ་མའི་ཞལ་རས། །
ཡིད་ལ་འཁོར་འཁོར་བྱས་བྱུང༌། །
From the peaks of the eastern mountains
A bright white moon has risen,
And a makyi_ama's face
Shines round in my mind
རང་སེམས་སོང་བའི་མི་དེ། །
གཏན་གྱི་འདུན་མར་བྱུང་ན། །
རྒྱ་མཚོའི་གཏིང་ནས་ནོར་བུ། །
ལོན་པ་དེ་དང་འདྲ་བྱུང༌། །
If the one who's caught my fancy
would stay with me forever,
it would be like finding
A Jewel be like finding
A jewel from the bottom of the sea.
ངང་བ་འདམ་ལ་ཆགས་ནས། །
རེ་ཞིག་སྡོད་དགོས་བསམས་ཀྱང༌། །
མཚོ་མོ་དར་ཁ་འགྲིགས་ནས། །
རང་སེམས་ཁོ་ཐག་ཆོད་སོང༌། །
Though the goose loved the marsh,
And wanted to linger.
Ice covered the lake,
And sadly he took wing.
བྲིས་པའི་ཡི་གེ་ནག་ཆུང༌། །
ཆུ་དང་ཐིགས་པས་འཇིགས་སོང༌། །
མ་བྲིས་སེམས་ཀྱི་རི་མོ། །
བསུབས་ཀྱང་བསུབ་རྒྱུ་མི་འདུག །
Written letters, black and small,
If you get them wet, they're ruined;
An unwritten image in your mind,
You can't erase, no matter how you try.
ནོར་བུ་རང་ལ་ཡོད་དུས། །
ནོར་བུའི་ནོར་ཉམས་མ་ཆོད། །
ནོར་བུ་མི་ལ་ཤོར་དུས། །
སྙིང་རླུང་སྟོད་ལ་འཚངས་བྱུང༌། །
When you have a jewel,
You don't appreciate its value.
When you lose it to someone else,
How your hear will ache!
སྤྲིན་པ་ཁ་སེར་གཏིང་ནག །
སད་དང་སེར་བའི་གཞི་མ། །
བན་དེ་སྐྱ་མིན་སེར་མིན། །
སངས་རྒྱས་བསྟན་པའི་དགྲ་བོ། །
A yellow cloud with a black heart
Is the source of frost and hail;
That man, neither lay nor monk,
Is an enemy of Buddha's teaching .
ས་བཅུའི་དབྱིངས་སུ་བཞུགས་པའི། །
དམ་ཅན་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཆོས་སྐྱོང༌། །
མཐུ་དང་ནུས་པ་ཡོད་ན། །
བསྟན་པའི་དགྲ་བོ་སྒྲོལ་དང༌། །
Dweller in the Ten Realms of Perfection,
Oath-bound Adamantine Protector of the Faith,
If you have magic and power,
Drive away the enemies of the Teaching!
ཤི་དེ་དམྱལ་བའི་ཡུལ་གྱི། །
ཆོས་རྒྱལ་ལས་ཀྱི་མེ་ལོང༌། །
འདི་ནས་ཁྲིག་ཁྲིག་མི་འདུག །
འདི་ནས་ཁྲིག་ཁྲིག་གནང་ཞུ། །
The king of Hell has a mirror
Which reveals your karma clearly.
In this life, my fate was underserved.
May his mirror reveal the truth when i am dead.
རྒྱ་གར་ཤར་གྱི་རྨ་བྱ། །
ཀོང་ཡུལ་མཐིལ་གྱི་ནེ་ཙོ། །
འཁྲུངས་ས་འཁྲུངས་ཡུལ་མི་གཅིག །
འཛོམས་པ་ཆོས་འཁོར་ལྷ་ས། །
Peacocks from the east of India,
Parrots from the lowlands of Gong;
Born in places far apart,
They meet in Lhasa, "Wheel of the Law"

Wow this is much more intense than I anticipated! The lecturer Mr. Kelsang Dhundup la did an excellent job narrating precise circumstance each poem correspond to, and their true metaphor.
Each poem is aesthetic in their literal romantic sense but the metaphorical nature of each stanza brings you back in historical time where tumultuous and chaotic atmospheres surrounded the then young 6th Dalai Lama, and each circumstance he was secretly trying to convey. As I listened to it time, and over trying to imagine what the young Sage was going through... I couldn’t help myself from crying.
I always loved reading “ཚངས་དབྱངས་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་མགུར་གླུ་” now it inspires me even more to read the Secret Biography of the Sixth Dalai Lama... hopefully soon. I wish someday we will be lucky enough to learn about “ཚངས་དབྱངས་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་གསང་བའི་རྣམ་ཐར་” and many more about the 6th Dalai Lama on this program. Thank you so much!

I did read it too. I read his secret biography three times. DEPA LHASANG killed DHESI SANGYE GYATSO and then kicked out 6th Dalai Lama from Lhasa palace. 6th Dalai Lama suffered a lot after that. extremely sad and heartbreaking. Then I tried to find his song name is MAKYE AMA, I couldn’t stop my tears when I heard that song. He live 80 years and finally he dead in Mongol. He was great YOGI 🧘‍♂️ 🙏🙏🙏
