1955 Packard Durability Test! 25,000 Miles At Over 104 MPH
This 9 minute video shows some details of the 1955 Packard V8 engine. The video takes us to the Packard proving ground where the Packard engineers are testing the engine in a 1955 Packard sedan on a 25,000 mile endurance test.

Packard planned to sell engines to Nash but insisted they had to be sold with Unimatic auto transmission which left a bad taste in Nash's mouth. Nash built their own V8 after 1955 and left Packard cold and the Packard engine plant never produced enough to justify it's cost. Packard ended up scrapping the whole line. Packard had relied on Briggs to build their bodies and Chrysler bought Briggs to build Imperial and left Packard without any body production. They had engines and transmissions they could not sell without bodies and chassis production to put them in. Then they talked to Studebaker...Yeah, a match made in heaven!

Nance featured here did most of the work to destroy Packard. Moving engine production to Utica cost $20M which Nance hid in the books. It was just vanit, and then he moved Clipper production to the Briggs planet. That was a disaster - Grand Avenue had everything required for mass production and new tooling. Packard never recovered.
