One of the best teachers of guitar I've come across on the land of CZcams. Great job! Thanks
Man I’ll never get enough of these masterclasses. Stich, you changed my life. Forever grateful sir🤘
I know nobody wants to hear from some random guy on the net but trust me this lesson is invaluable and then some. Thanks a lot Mr Stitch.
Stich is simply the best music teacher online. Before: I already know about triads, what more is there? After: Holy crap, I never thought of it like that!! Essential. Simplicity. The essence of knowledge. You don't have to be a guitarist to appreciate this lesson.
Such a nice comment! So glad you enjoyed! Share this with someone! That helps out a lot
Amazing! When I teach triads students find it very basic. I just tell them to wait till it unfolds. You just proved it!
I've been watching this video for past few days. I don't like moving past what I don't get yet. I'm at the third day of the minute 12... and I get it now.
You will not have enough praises in your life, and that is unfortunate, as there cannot be too many. But, working towards filling that gap:
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I get it now... All of it
Lots of guitar channels out there with cool editing, nice gear, entertaining pieces or funny bits etc but this is where I keep coming back to actually learn guitar. Perfect pace and delivery. This one really brought everything into perspective for me. Can't wait to access the training materials.
How this channel doesn't have millions of subs is a mystery! YT algorithm should be pushing all his videos to everyone who's into learning guitar!
I agree😂
@@frankcloutier5495 I made it 🤟

The lessons just get better and better. Just an amazing teacher. 👍👏
25 years of playing , and you have schooled me and demystified something that has eluded me for decades
Thank you so much xx
Amazing to hear, and I am so glad you got something out of it. Rock on
Amazing! Just like the rug in "The Big Lebowski," a major triad ties the "whole room" (fingerboard) together...Really does...Thanks man!
Yes. Exactly. Thank you, Federico. You’re one of the few commenters who specified what specific CONCEPTS made the video valuable to them. They just said they loved Ian? (me too). But I’m a student first; a cheerleader second. I subscribed immediately. I excellent teacher.
Ian, all your lessons are great, this one, to me, is the best lesson you have ever posted on YT, and that's saying a lot! This lesson is fantastic.
I'm so glad seriously.....I found this topic from last week10,,days atleast... suddenly i seen this video ❤❤❤❤ respect from India 🙏🙏🙏
Wait a second. Am I watching Speed or the intro to a Stitch video? “Pop quiz, hot shot”.
I don't know if this is scientific, but when I am trying to learn something I find that there are periods of growth in learning and then periods of stagnation. When I learn something, there is a physical manifestation of that learning in my body. Today, I have had a quickening of pulse and heart rate. I have learned more (I hope) from this lesson than I have in the last many months. Thank you again Stitch.
That’s amazing to here! So glad you got that feeling
Best hour I've spent in a while. Thanks for sharing that.
I like this. A huge benefit from thinking about it this way is you don't need to worry about the G to B string shift
Totally missed the f in the word shift and was still like "Amen brother!" Lmao XD
This was awesome, you couldn't explain it better than this. You just opened my mind how to play around the triads. Thank you so much.
I have never been bored by anything you have shown or described😊😊😊
I love you man!! Every time I watch one of your videos I get re-inspired. Everything that was in the dark is now in the light and makes total sense. Thank you!
Brilliant! Your lessons have more clarity than any other lessons I’ve seen on CZcams.
The best single lesson I’ve ever seen on understanding the fretboard and how to link CAGED and triads. Been looking for this for a long time. Great job, Ian!
I’ve learned a lot thanks to your videos! Couldn’t have asked for a better teacher 🎉 always will be here for a new way to see the guitar 🎸
This is probably one of your best videos from a conceptual perspective Ian 👍
Cheers for all the hard work u put in to simplify it , this opened a new door that’s been stuck a while😎🏴
In the first 11 minutes you helped me over a major hurdle! It'll be fun to see what comes next!
Thank you Stich !! As always , Greatful lesson !
One of your best videos. Thank you for sharing you ideas
You just have an awesome way of explaining how a bunch of concepts fit together. I truly appreciate it. Thank you.
I have been working on chords and triads, now using this with formulas really opened an understanding of intervals. Great lesson!
Thanks for a great comprehensive lesson, This WAS something I was struggling with working out.
Now youve given us the understanding to workout cool solos . Muchos Gracias
Beautiful Stitch! Wonderful class.
This is single handedly the most valuable instructional video I have ever watched on YT and I have watched A LOT. Thank you so much!
Couldn't agree more! Cheers! :)
This is like peeling away the bitter rind to get to the sweet fruit within. It's about how to control the recipe so that what you're cooking tastes good. Beautiful lesson.
Great analogy! Really appreciate the enthusiasm
This lesson is nothing short of incredible !
So insightful ! THANK YOU STITCH !
After 5 years of music theory I realised that there were only three chords, Major minor and dominant, all the rest are just developments of those three.
Brilliant! This is the most important guitar lesson I've ever taken. Not only has it unlocked the guitar for me but it has also unlocked every other guitar lesson and book I've ever done. Thank you so much! You, sir, are the Pythagoras of guitar teachers. Can't wait to get started on diagrams and sessions.
First time I’ve commented on any of these instruction videos I usually just hit like and subscribe, but this one really help me see my arpeggios and triads a little differently. Thanks again.
This is a GREAT lesson! It's really helpful to quickly connect more complex chords to familiar triads/shapes. Thank you for sharing!
I already knew the theory but only in word. You made it visual where now I can remember it. Thanks so much!
Just simply beautiful!
Great video mate. Thanks for sharing! 🤘
you are a very kind soul. Thank you so much for your videos. You help soooo many people. THANK YOU!!!
For the first time ever, I am beginning to understand the whys and wherefores of intervals, great stuff Ian, thanks.......
This is a very good lesson. I'm starting to see the bigger picture of the neck and how to create the melodic patterns around the 1-3-5 triads. I definitely need to study this content/rewind this a bunch of times. Thank you.
Your master classes are sooo good. Man. I enjoy the heck out of em and learn so much!
Glad you like them!
Awesome lesson, I'm kinda on a beginner level trying to link scales and chords and how to make 'em work together, this lesson gave me a really good clarity on how to do this, thank you so much.
I feel like I’ve waited 30 years and finally found what I was looking for! The absolute best. Thank you!
That's great, inspiring and very educational. Thank you! You're a true teacher.
now i can imagine myself finally being able to play quality.
You just taught me what no one else could...Thank you so much!
intervals are everything good job. I tune in 4ths which has its drawbacks in some open voicings but the intervals are all symmetrical everywhere. great video
Great video! Nice to see you’ve come to terms with your distain of triads 😊
Thanks for this
Iv been stuck in the intermediate level for years
Now this exactly what I needed
Only halfway through and you've already blown my mind three times! Amazing! THANK YOU!
Thank you, Teacher. Your videos are amazingly helpful and interesting.
Wow! Learned so much that I thought I would never learn. Theory is now making sense. Best CZcams guitar teacher! Thanks stitch method!
Thanks Stich, this was enlightening.
Thank you so so much for doing this man. I love your channel and I love Rush. Win-win all round
This was an excellent lesson, thank you very much for your help making this info make sense and stick
Ian you have done it again, it all makes so much sense to me, a testimony to what a fine, fine instructor and musician you are. Thank you so much for sharing with us...
The teacher is innovative. And highly skilled.
I always learn a ton from your videos Thank you Sir!!
Excellent lesson very very well explained..
I was heading down that triads road on my own because it felt like a good way to learn to navigate the fretboard, but it wasn't based on anything else than a hunch on the way I tend to learn best.
The CAGED system always seemed fine to me but also always felt more like remembering than understanding the fretboard if that makes sense. A lot of time and energy to commit all of this to memory instead of just taking that same time to truly figure it out.
This video just confirmed I was on the right path and unlocked so many things at once! Legitimately progressed months if not years in one hour! My looper pedal is about to experience some serious wear and tear haha
Thank you so much for years of amazing fun coming up ❤
Gratitude!!! Thank you. A real gift!!! Wonderful lesson. It explains why most of my solos just don't "fit". I'm looking forward to your practice routine.
The doors you mentioned started to open for me at 8:37 in this video, thank you so much for putting this out there. Now, I have to see more of this.
Been working on this since I saw it. OMG!!!! SO AMAZING. Has changed everything for me.
Awesome to here! Please share this course with someone!
I always learn from The Stitch Method, but this one stands out as a shimmering rare jewel. Before I saw this video, I discovered triads organically by disassembling the CAGED barres and asking myself: "wonder what this does if I peel these fingers off?", etc. Very primal, but still, it was firing off new thoughts for sure. It understates the value of the CAGED system (at least for me) to say there is an amazing amount of information hiding in plain sight within CAGED. And Ian takes this fundamental notion and launches into a next-level system of using CAGED to locate the major triad (the anchor for it all!) and by extension, locating all intervals and chord shapes while keeping the fretting hand economical. I have previously appreciated the value of the CAGED system, but now realize I was merely on the front porch looking in the window. Ian opened the door and invited me in for a tour of the whole CAGED house. This is not to say this video is purely a CAGED lesson -- it is not. But it does indeed leverage CAGED in a way that has never been presented to me. If CAGED does not make sense to you, please see Ian's various -- and very generous -- CAGED videos, then come back. This lesson, pared with his CAGED lessons will change your guitar life. I would also encourage everyone to buy the charts in this video -- they are well worth it. Thank you Ian for always challenging me and lighting up new neurological pathways. You always deepen my love for this fantastic instrument. Mind blown. Finger tips hurting. Heart space for humanity just a wee bit bigger.
Thank you so much, for your this lesson. Super helpful and yet so simple. Many many thanks
Mind blown. It was right there in front of me the entire time. Just needed a Jedi master to show it to me! Now it's mine forever! Thank you Ob-Wan Stich-Nobi!
I love his enthusiasm, and he is an awsome teacher.
Really good essential lesson. I was happy you made the core available for a low cost download price which suits my occasional forays into guitar. It gives me a break from classic western metaphysics and the genius Aquinas as well as the pressing social issues of our day like what we are telling children about their "identities".
Been playing ( learning ) for 50+ years, Rock, Country, Clubs & Bars. Know a lot of this theory, but these lessons are like a master revision class , for me, I always pickup something to think about or to try out. If only this content had been available back then.
Keep up the good work Sir Stitch ❤🇬🇧
Great lesson. Wish this stuff was out there when I was beginning my learning.
Hey, thanks for the great lesson. I think it’s the best lesson you’ve ever given.
I put this lesson off for months but yesterday I went from start to finish pausing practicing , then light bulbs explosions, then awe I'm getting it, the next thing I like to do is deconstruct a song to really nail things down, but if you want to understand intervals chords construction, sit down grab a cup of coffee, if your in the UK a cupper , just listen, I do recommend the PDF's t, I will go over this lesson again , but it's amazing when the lights start flashing then you say I getting it cheers Ian
What a great teacher! Thankyou!
Amazing work have to watch couple times.. to really understand but easy to digest
Recent subscriber and intermediate player here, working my way through your content. What makes you probably the most accessible guitar teacher on CZcams is clearly demonstrated in this masterclass: (1) your gift for clear explanation at a layperson's level, (2) not sidestepping the critical issue of understanding the underlying principles of music theory, and (3) focusing on playing correct notes rather than flashy licks. Perhaps most compelling is your authentic desire to help others master the guitar, as you clearly have. The world needs more folks like you. Thank you so much for all these things, you have earned a follower.
You sir are a true professor of guitar. I dont know how you optain all of this information then teach it without missing a beat.
This is a fantastic lesson, Ian! You can build anything off triads.
No other word for this: exceptional.....thanking you..
This connected so many distant dots in my head together. Phenomenal lesson
Great lesson, thank you!!!
This is amazing!! Thank you! Subscribed!
This is my intro to Mr Stitch. I'll be spending time trying this out. I picked up everything except the chord voicing. I can find the notes that need to be there but when two are on the same string, having to find another octave to play one of the notes is too time consuming to do in real time (at my current knowledge level). So that seems to be what I need to practice the most, first possibly.
Great lesson though. Thank you for making the video
“…this is the most boring stuff in the world…” nah man, this fascinating. I’ve only been playing for about a year and I’ve learned some scales, a bunch of chords, I’m well on my way to internalizing the notes on the fret board, but the thing that I’ve struggled with is how to choose notes to match a solo to a chord progression. I think my answer is in here, I just need to play with it.
There are guitarists who can strum every song in a Neil Young book but would sweat and faint if you ask them where C# is on the fretboard. Yet, that’s a guitarists’ prerogative but you’ll be lost if you move to jazz. That’s why this is such a superb approach.
you're a brilliant teacher, thank you for this!
sensational lesson, thank you so much! :)
Thank you for all your lessons!!
Thank you for making this make sense!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Many thanks for another great lesson
So so glad I found you. Great instructions. Thank you.
Ian, may your generosity with sharing your knowledge come back to you 10 fold!!! ✌
Though i already know and practice this; it still solidifies it to watch you break it down. Absorbing information in different ways is helpful. We should know all musical information sonically, verbally, visually on the instrument and on chord charts, literally in chord names, interval names, Nashville numbers, tabs, CAGED forms, inversions, modal flavors and music notation.
i probably forgot something but the point is there are many ways to describe or perceive any one piece of information.
this video is very helpful. I see no one else explaining this.
Building triads with intervals is the key to unlocking everything else.
next I'd like a lesson onleading tones between triads (voice Leading)
Bro. Its amazing how you reely upload all this content for free and just for everyone. I am watching this from Mexico ^^ I hope u can reach as much people as u can with this and keep growing. Have an amazing day bro. Than you ^^
Dude! Thank you so much!!!
WOW! This is amazing yet it actually makes sense.
Thanks StitchMethod!
If I could leave two thumbs up I would 👍🏻👍🏻
I just started playing 6 string bass (actually a short scale bass - PipeDream Fretworks Chopped 6 tuned E - E) before embarking on this journey I played rhythm guitar in a blues band. So my mind wants to play this Chopped 6 bass like a 6 string electric guitar. Problem is the standard full chords I'm used to playing are too muddy on a 6 string bass, so I've been getting into triads for the first time. This lesson was excellent and on point with what I'm currently working on. THANKS!
You‘re awesome, thanks for sharing this content
This was excellent ! Thank you !
thankyou for sharing. i appreciate.
Hey man, it's not at all boring. Very interesting. Gives me quite a few hours of practice and fun!
