A show of strength as soon as you become a lame duck president to show the strength in your leadership as elections draw closer by removing one of the last remaining old school cartel bosses. Whether ur one side of the political spectrum or the other you gotta admit it’s a clever move. It should be noted that this would also be a double edged sword depending on how it’s handled. Power struggle could create instability in the region unless power had already been usurped completely which it never is. Between US foreign policy and the inevitable power struggle that ensues diplomatic relations with Mexico could become tense. The beginning of next year should be interesting to say the least.
