My Full Discussion With Dr. Michael Brown On False Prophecy

  • In this video I have a full and frank discussion with Dr Michael Brown on the subject of prophecy and in particular false prophecy. Sometimes the connection was cutting out so I missed things he said during the discussion and there was a lot going on so not everything was responded to on my end. It was a really good discussion. Michael Brown was really open and candid and I think this discussion was edifying for both of us and hopefully it will be for you too. What was unique about this discussion is that neither of us are cessationists and so the discussion focused more on how people receive prophecy and whether or not a true prophet can give a false prophecy.

For those who disagreed with me hosting Dr Michael Brown, you are free to have you opinions but you should watch the video and see what was said before you jump to conclusions. I think it was a huge thing for him to come and subject himself to such scrutiny. He let me push him pretty hard. Not many people are willing to do that. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I strongly disagree with Dr. Michael Brown on some things but his books on evangelism to Jews are second to none, his commentary of Jeremiah is really good. His debates with and against James White are awesome.

I'm not a DMB fan neither. But why not have him have a say. There is other issues with any 'teacher'. E.g. What Gospel do they teach?
Who are the chosen people? It helps to know what the right answers are there. The NT-Text does give them abundantly, though.

I agree Caleb, fantastic interview/debate! I just think he, like other charismatics, missed the theological boat on many things. It fascinates me that man like Dr Brown knows soooo much about scripture in its original languages yet gets so many things contextually wrong. I’m far from a biblical scholar but a lot of what he claims is nails down a chalkboard to me. I have to check out the debates with James white because I can only imagine the corners brown puts himself in that debate.

    • @metapolitikgedanken612
      @metapolitikgedanken612 Před 3 měsíci

@@christclinger6540 It's not only charismatics that 'miss the boat'. Me/We also do that pretty often and one needs to acknowledge this. Well, and I have to say that Cessationist seem to be in error on a more fundamental level by limiting what the present spiritual gifts should be. They limit it to humane normalcy. I do believe that God will give more than that and also that the the normal human gifts of teaching, administration, charity will be different in substance when they are given by the Spirit. The error of the charismaniacs is however that they see anything extraordinary as 'spiritual' regardless of the actual origin thereof. No testing of the Spirits, no scrutiny as long as it pleases the emotions it must be from God. Well, that would be too good to be true. And it isn't. What both camps also miss is that the Flesh must die with Christ so that we can live in the Spirit. Otherwise the world and the lusts of the Flesh will take over again. And they can be very deceitful, although this also will include clearly wrong stuff. The issue is already with the Gospel and also what it means to become 'Abraham's' seed. Both camps are often wrong on this. While they affirm traditional teaching to some extent, they also are prone to be 'Zionist' with the charismaniacs and baptists being more dispensationalist on the matter. With the Protestant/reformed folks it's more postmil/amil views. Simply assuming that everything will be fine as long as people only become nominally Christian.
The irony is that the way out of this is in principle rather simple, but there is great resistance to walk that route in practice.

I have said repeatedly that I was raised in an NAR church, back in the 90s they fell hard for the supposed "Pensacola Revival" (this was prior to the Todd Bentley revival in Lakeland). Anyway, Michael Brown worked alongside the Kilpatricks promoting this train wreck. False prophecies were made CONSTANTLY. None of it came to pass. He spoke at my church on one of the ocassions. Dr. Brown has a decades-long track record of defending those whom I'm sure Caleb would identify as false teachers, e.g., Sid Roth, Bill Johnson, Mike Bickle, Todd White, etc. Even in this video, Brown claims, for example, that he "was not aware" of Benny Hinn's false prophecies; this is a line of argument that Brown has made repeatedly in relation to other known false prophets. Brown does not refute those who contradict sound doctrine (Titus 1:9) -- he defends and makes excuses for them, so I do not consider him a trustworthy resource, but rather one that should be marked an avoided.

The sad truth is that even though a true Prophet is 100% accurate all the time, there would still be a bunch of CZcams christian conspiracy theorists making videos about him , saying 'He is fake, he is a false prophet, he is after your money!" etc. Christian conspiracy theorists are using "exposing christian videos' as an excuse to get millions of likes and subscribers on CZcams and yet they say that "false pastors and teachers are after your money!"
When all along they themselves make these Christian conspiracy theory videos to get likes and subscribers to scam millions and make money themselves!
Satan is attacking Christianity nowadays with his number 1 weapon; Christian conspiracy theory Videos! Videos that fight Christians and destroys the body of Christ by saying "We must expose false teachers!"
The problem is that the so called "false teachers and false prophets" who are allegedly exposed are always Christian. They are never Muslim nor Bhuddists nor Rastafarians nor satanists. Because satan's true enemy is the body of Christ. Satan will never say that Bhuddists Rastafarians and Muslims and satanists are false teachers. Because then His Kingdom would be devided against itself! His plan is to let the world know that "Christians are false, fake and evil" and that you must "stay away from Christian churches because they just want your money".
We as the real body of Christ must pray against the attack against the attack on Christian churches by binding the demons who are inspiring people to make these Christian conspiracy theory videos, in the name of Jesus Christ!
      God bless!
By the way, real Prophets do exist because God said that He would send them!

It seems as though many people do not catch the inconsistencies of things like this in theological debates/conversations when the person questioning gets aggressive. It creates more sympathy for the person being questioned, shutting down the listeners' ability to stick to what they person is actually saying. Sometimes, it is best to let people flesh out their thoughts without interruption.

I have known Dr Brown and talked to him in the past. He has a thing about him that he hates to call someone outright a false prophet, or the like. He preached against Joseph Prince for quite a while, but could never quite say the obvious, that he is a false teacher. He even made up with him after a while, which cost him a lot of followers. It does not surprise me that he might say one or two bad prophesies doesn't disqualify the man. It sounds just like him. Personally, I have been a Pentecostal for over 50 years, and have been solid on this for a long time. One false prophecy is the end for me ever listening to you.
I finally cut off my relationship with him. He just couldn't take a stand on to many things like that.
But I will tell you all where this stuff has come from. It's the "word of Faith" movement, with Ken Hagin. They polluted the Pentecostal movement many years ago. Clear back in about 1980 I started fighting against it, with their prosperity and "name it and claim it" garbage. I called it "blab it and grab it", and lost lots of friends. Now days, it seems like the "new apostalic" movement is carrying the torch for those guys.
The old time Pentecostal folks don't agree with any of this stuff.

When their predictions come through it validates these are true men of God, and when the "word from the Lord" isn't answered, there's some sort of excuse that brushes their mistake away as no big deal. If Brown lived during the Old Test times, what would be his defense for the people of God to NOT kill him when he made the first false prediction? Most of what is believed to be prophecy today is nothing more than forecasting out from the soul’s interpretation of current events or what is thought will tickle the ear of the hearers rather than truly speaking by the Spirit of God. And just like weather forecasting you will get some things correctly and some incorrectly. But it is dangerous to declare “Thus says the Lord” as that is making what you are saying equal to the authority of Scripture and thus requiring belief and obedience to your spoken word.

Hey Caleb, I just wanted to share my perspective with you in a nice, loving, and gracious way. I truly believe that your view on the prophecy in 1 Corinthians 14 might be incorrect. From my understanding, it's more about true believers who prophesy in a church setting and the church judging their accuracy, rather than distinguishing between false and true prophets. I hope we can have a respectful and insightful debate about this topic. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
In 1 Corinthians 14:29-33, Paul says, "Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged." Here's the breakdown:
    1. "Let two or three prophets speak": This indicates that there are believers with the gift of prophecy in the church setting.
    2. "And let the others weigh what is said": This suggests that the other believers have the responsibility to evaluate and judge the accuracy of the prophecies shared.
    3. "If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent": This emphasizes the need for order and respect when multiple prophecies are being shared. It allows for one prophecy to be shared at a time, so that each can be properly evaluated.
    4. "For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged": This highlights the purpose of prophecy within the church, which is for learning and encouragement.
So, based on these verses, we can see that Paul is indeed talking about true believers prophesying and other believers judging the accuracy of the prophecy in the church setting. It's a way to ensure that the prophecies align with God's truth and are beneficial for the edification of the church.
    Great conversation also.

Believers Bible Commentary - First of all, two or three prophets were to speak and the others were to judge. No more than three were to take part in any one meeting, and the Christians who listened were to determine whether this was truly a divine utterance or whether the man might be a false prophet.
Bob Utley - Prophets do not have uncontested freedom (i.e., subject, time, or content) to speak. They are to be evaluated by other gifted believers (cf. 1Co_14:30; 1Co_12:10; 1Jn_4:1-3). Remember that the demonic were present when Jesus spoke in both the Synagogue and in outdoor preaching.
John Gill - The other prophets that sit and hear, and all such as have a spirit of discerning, whether what the prophets say comes from their own spirits, or from a lying spirit, from the spirit of antichrist, or whether from the Spirit of God; and even the body of the people, private members of the church, and hearers, might judge of the doctrine for themselves, according to the word of God, the standard of faith and practice; and were not to believe every spirit, but try them, whether they were of God, and their doctrines by his word, whether they were true or false; for the spiritual man is in a measure capable of judging all things of a spiritual kind, through that spiritual experience he has of the word of God, and divine things, and by the assistance of the Spirit of God.
John Calvin - For it is of no small advantage, that there should be some that are skillful in judging, who will not allow sound doctrine to be perverted by the impostures of Satan, or to be otherwise corrupted by silly trifles.

The reality is there are no modern day Prophets because the foundation is complete, consisting of the Apostles and Prophets with Christ being the chief cornerstone. Ephesians 2 v20. Today we have the Spiritual gifts in place of the Office of Apostle and Prophets and both are not needed at the SAME time!! Today all gentiles are Spiritually grafted into the original Foundation and we do Not overtake the Natural branch that being Israel. Today you see those wanting to overtake the natural branches with their own version of the word and yet we are not considering all the divisions that are occurring. Hebrews says we have a more assured way forward with the complete teachings of the words of the complete canon of the Scripture. Now some will say that everything the foundation consists of rests on Christ Jesus and the foundation is being built above Christ Jesus and is not complete but then why would Paul say in Ephesians 2v20 it consists of the Apostles being 12 in number and their names are written in the new Jerusalem foundation?? And with Christ being the chief Cornerstone and not Chief Stone?? And when you look at the Jewish Prophets who spoke the word of God because the canon of scripture wasn’t complete yet until the Jewish Apostles came into being?? Together the Jewish Apostles and Jewish Prophets with Christ being the Chief CORNERSTONE and not Chief Stone completed the Foundation and therefore there is no more need to add to it!!. Somehow you have gentiles who are not satisfied with being spiritually grafted in and want MORE than what they are accounted who are thereby boasting and will be Removed if they are not careful.. we are to ADD to the Natural Branch and not overcome it !! @@banzakidimye348 That’s your passage to prove that a true prophet can prophesy falsely? Really? Jonah said what God said to say, the scripture tells us that it was God who told him what to say to the people of Nineveh,
      Jonah 1:1-2
Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil
      has come up before me.”
Now we know for a fact that Jonah didn’t prophesy falsely because all he did was to say what God told him to say
      Jonah 3:1-3
Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.” 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD.
Now just as you said, God was the one who decided to have mercy on them because they repented.
      Jonah 3:
4 Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s journey. And he called out, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” 5 And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.
In Chapter 3:7-9 it said that the King made a decree in the land for everyone to turn from the evil ways and they did. And they placed their faith in God that he will have mercy on them.
      Jonah 3:10 says
When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.
So you tell me, how did Jonah Prophesied a false prophecy when it was God who decided to relent & not destroy them? So are you saying that God lied? Are you impugning God? Cuz Jonah said what He told him to say. All a prophet needs to be a false prophet is to prophesy something wrong once cuz that would be if he gets it wrong once, then his credibility is now in question going forward cuz we can’t trust him to be accurate. Every True Prophet of God prophesies accurately 100% at all times cuz all they did was to say what God said and what God says cannot be a lie.

      @aaronlee6821 Před 3 měsíci

@@banzakidimye348 You need to realize what many (most) of the prophecies in the OT were for. They were prophecies about how God would react to people if they kept up their evil ways, but that God would not (in most cases) follow through with his judgement if they repented and turned from their evil ways. Many times the Bible makes this explicitly clear, but sometimes doesn't explicitly say so, likely because the Israelites clearly understood what prophecy was. For the most part it was not some sort of predicting the future (though there are definite cases of that, such as Daniel, and prophets prophesying about the coming Messiah), but rather it was God's means of telling the people that they needed to change, and if they didn't, they would be able to see with certainty that God was bringing judgement on them, just as it was predicted.
So, if you understand the purpose behind prophecy, and what it really is, there's nothing false about Jonah's prophecy.
Now, there are some prophecies which were not for the purpose of trying to get the people to repent, nor foretelling far-off future events. Not a prophecy per-se, but rather the dream that God gave to Pharoah, He gave him two dreams, to emphasize that the coming famine was already determined and nothing would change it. That dream and it's interpretation was to get Pharoah and the people to take action (not repent), but ultimately also to show everyone God's hand was at work. I think it can be said that all prophecy is to show the hand of God working, but each case can have a different focus on what the people who hear the prophecy should do, and whether it is a fixed prophecy, or one that can change based on the reaction of those who hear it. But, contained in the prophecy, it is clear what that focus is.

The problem, as I see it, is that the vast majority of professing Christians are likely not true Christians. Yet most people, even sadly true believers, fail to take this into account when talking about false prophets, false teachers, etc. If we are true believers, we are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. How can we not recognize that the Holy Spirit has no desire that any believer is deceived?
I was so easily deceived for many years when I claimed to be a Christian, but was one in mouth only. I had itching ears, that wanted more proof about God, and ultimately proof that I was a Christian. I should have recognized at the time that my desire for such was merely proof that I wasn't a true Christian. Once I became a true believer, that all changed. I immediately saw how many false prophets and false teachers there are.
John, as you mentioned, we sheep know His voice. No matter how knowledgeable of the Scripture a person is, who claims to be a believer, if they cannot hear Jesus' voice, but are following a wolf in sheep's clothing, they need to examine themself to see if they are truly in the faith.

I listened to your interview with Dr. Brown and wished you would have asked him how a true believer in Christ can recognize a false minister who transforms himself into a minister of righteousness. Are these transformed ministers of righteousness saved or lost? “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore, it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.” (2 Cor 11:12-15) Wouldn’t these transformed ministers of righteousness declare publicly their belief and trust in Christ as their Savior and Lord? Wouldn’t they profess they are doing the will of God? Wouldn’t they use the Scriptures as the basis for their teaching? Wouldn’t they insist they are preaching and teaching the truth of God by the Holy Spirit? Of course, they do all these things. But these claims cannot assure anyone that a minister is, in fact, a true minister of Christ. They draw nigh unto Christ by their words, but their hearts are far from Him and evil to the core. So how does a true believer recognize and avoid these satanic ministers of righteousness?
The last few words of verse 15 states the end of these ministers will be according to their works i.e. their principal actions, deeds, methodology of ministering or as Jesus tells us we will know them by their fruits. “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing (false ministers of righteousness) … by their fruits you will know them.” (Mat 7:15,20) What will these fruits, their principal methodologies of ministering look like? Again, Jesus tells us how we can recognize these devilish ministers of righteousness. In the 8th chapter of the gospel of John Jesus tells those who are seeking to kill him, “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does.” So, yes indeed, we can know those who belong to Satan but have transformed themselves into ministers of righteousness. Their works will be based on the doctrine and methodology of Satan their spiritual father.
The three temptations of Christ by Satan reveal his principal methodologies and lies that that are practiced and emphasized by his ministers of righteousness. The first temptation of Christ was to change the stones into bread. Satan was tempting Christ to not wait (thus depend) on God to meet His need of hunger. Satan was pressing Christ to take the initiative by using the power of His own words to change the stones into bread and satisfy his hunger. In other words, Satan was challenging Christ to take charge of His own life and reign over all His needs through the power of His tongue (His words). Satan was calling for Christ to become Lord and Master over himself and his earthly life and thereby reject the authority of His Heavenly Father over his life. It is the great lie of Satan’s ministers that Christians can call those things that be not as though they were. By the power of their tongue, they can bring about health, prosperity, wealth, success and create any desired blessing for their lives. But God’s Word clearly tells us that such arrogance and self-glory are from an ungodly heart. “They speak deceitful and worthless words to one another; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks great things [in boasting]; who have said, ‘With our tongue we will prevail; our lips are our own; who is lord and master over us?’” (Psalm 12) This same evil satanic principal is championed by the Word of Faith ministers. Why? Because they love doing the evil things their spiritual father Satan does.
In the second temptation Satan uses Scripture to extort an act of suicide from Jesus that would fulfil the desire of Satan for Christ’s destruction. The Word of God is the truth of God, but ministers can misuse scriptures to deceive and destroy true believers in Christ. The false ministers of righteousness use Scriptures to compel believers to do as they say. They most often extort money or sex from their followers by virtue of their position of authority or reputation as ministers of righteousness. They rule over their churches or ministries as did Diotrephes that John described as evil in his third epistle. But they are utilizing the same principle and technique Satan used on Christ in the second temptation. Any minister doing such should be avoided. God has not given His Word to man so that man can reign over others. Ministers are to be servants of true believers not dictators that rule over them.
The third temptation of Satan is the most egregious and profuse methodology used by many ministers today. Satan always seeks to turn the ways of God upside down. He asked Jesus to fall down and worship him. True worship is creation worshiping the Creator. But here Satan is asking the Creator to worship His creation. The exact opposite of what should take place. When God gives, he gives down which is from greater to lesser. Thus, God has a give down principle which His true children are to practice. Satan, however, has a give up principle, from lesser to greater which his ministers of righteousness teach and demand adherence to. They insist believers in need must give and, of course give up to these wealthy ministers (from lesser to greater) or God will not respond to their faith. They utilize the very same method Satan attempted to deceive Jesus with. Satan insisted Jesus must first sow a seed of worship, and then and only then would Jesus reap a harvest of all that he desired. In other words, Satan must have what he wants first before Jesus can have what he wants. Those who teach and insist their followers must adhere to this demonic lie of sowing money to reap an answer to prayer are doing the same evil thing of Satan. As Jesus clearly tells us those who do the evil things of Satan do so because Satan is their spiritual father.
Anyone who is a follower of these kinds of ministers or ministries and defends and financially supports them is going to end up just like these devilish ministers of righteousness. They will be cast into eternal darkness by Christ. I do not listen to the braggadocios self-justification of these false teachers because their works mimic the evil works of Satan. I pray that the Holy Spirit will open the minds and hearts of many deceived believers who are blindly following Satan's ministers of righteousness and lead them out from grave spiritual danger into the safety of a Christ led life.

Really good talk here. What baffles me is that you got him to the point of saying Benni Hinn is a false prophet without him saying it. He cannot be telling truth in that he said he hasn't followed Benni for some time so doesn't know what he has supposedly prophesied but then he mentions Justin Peters sending him all the things Benni has said. Well if he had watched or read that from Justin he would then know he is a false prophet, because of this he is kind of saying he doesn't believe Justin. Still ducking around actually saying it.

    @SolaGratia. Před 3 měsíci +1

Brother, I'm only about halfway through but it has been such a blessing to see you present the truth so wisely and gently. I have a visceral reaction to some of his beliefs because they've ravaged my own families lives, among countless others. But watching you handle him so lovingly and honestly has made me realize I probably have some repenting and forgiving to do. I didn't even know I needed that.
I've never seen Dr. Brown do a conversational style video like this and it certainly helps to hear him explain his various positions without also controlling the mic himself and cutting off his opponents from even being allowed to complete a full answer.
I've never seen him so meek, mild, and willing to admit to real issues, so maybe God will use this discussion to open his eyes to some of his blind spots. Before tonight, I generally viewed him as knowing when he's being deceptive. But after watching even half of this video, I can see he's also sincerely deceived himself. I think he really has bought into his views and I think he fears to let go of them because they are basically his life's work and legacy.
That would be a heavy blow to a man his age. My father has struggled with it as well and even though I know it's good that my dad finally separated himself from the movement in the physical sense, he still grieves for all the years lost to what may have all been doctrines of demons. He still doesn't want to believe that.. But I know that if we humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord, He will lift us up, far higher than we ever dreamed or imagined. And I pray that for my dad and Dr. Brown. Our treasure is not made of earthly honors, legacies or inheritances because we aren't of this world. We're laying up for ourselves treasures in heaven, where nothing can ever corrupt them.
Thank for this. It's very timely for me.
And in closing, I would ask for prayers as well. My father fell, broke a hip and had a heart attack. I haven't seen him in weeks because his body and mind (he has Parkinsons already) have made him very slow to heal. So please pray for my dad and my entire family right now. I would be grateful. And thank you again for sharing this conversation with us. It's enlightening in more ways than one.

I don’t need a modern day “prophet”, anyway. I have my Bible, and also the Holy Spirit guiding me every single day. I feel these people are like a horoscope cult. If God wants to tell me something, He doesn’t need another to tell me, or warn me, He speaks directly to my soul.
My mother had an aunt-in-law that annoyingly always had a “word” for someone. She was a total false ‘preacher’ and a cultish charismatic. @user-qb2bj9gd2s Před 3 měsíci +2

This was a great conversation. Caleb, it does sound like you’re ready to condemn anyone who gives a false word as non-Christian. You used the deserved death penalties of homosexuality and adultery in support of your reasoning. But how many Christians might give a false word in the excitement of their having found Christ because they start to see the world differently and have new considerations in their heart - and get confused in reading what is really just hope or emotional wishing or even God’s will? If we followed your logic, we could compare these people to those who take the Lord’s name in vain in the OT, which is also punishable by death. How many new (and old) Christians say “JC” or “OMG” regularly, even though this is a blasphemous and degrading use of the names of Jesus and God. Do we allow them to learn and repent, or do we banish them as non-Christians just for carelessly using a phrase they have constantly heard from their friends, parents, teachers and on every television show they’ve probably watched all of their lives? In 1Cor 5, when a man was sleeping with his father’s wife, while he was handed over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh (STD?), the goal was still repentance and salvation; Paul did not give a statement of his non-Christian status, nor did Paul say the man was not even a Christian. Should we not be at least as understanding with people who do not have a regular habit of saying false words, but simply make an honest mistake?

    Caleb, I like your angle
of pursuit about the authenticity of hearing from God with a specific Prophecy from God. So, I have experienced everything you have such as “Was that me mulling things around in my own heart/mind or was that actually God speaking to me?” Then, actually hearing God speak with that distinctive, zero doubt that it was God’s voice. I have heard God’s voice in that authoritative tone around 8-10 in my 24 years of walking with Him. Every time He spoke to me like that, it was at major transitions in my life or preparing me for a specific time to devote to an initiative. Here is the funny thing, each time God spoke to me, I would automatically say, “Do what Lord?” And he repeated the same thing in the same tone. Then I looked in the word where God spoke to many people by saying the same thing twice in a row like Abraham Abraham, Saul Saul, etc… So, I have heard the voice of God, but I’m with you on the contention of hearing a full prophecy and repeating that as “God said…”. Thank you for diving into deep waters. People need to hear this and go on a journey with God to discover revelation.

In the year 1980, I was a new Christian. During that year after the conclusion of the church service, I looked at the other side of the building and saw this young sister sitting there. I was moved by God, with this inner voice, to go and tell this person that she was going to birth a baby boy. After some years while attending a youth service at a different church, a young lady about 13 or 14, who was a baby girl at the time I told her mother what the LORD had told me for her, came to me and asked if I was Brother Charles that attended the church, I served in. I responded yes, I am that man. She replied that my mother had written you letters which could not be delivered, because we had moved. She told me that her mother had been trying to get in touch with me to tell me that she had birthed a baby boy, just as the LORD had indicated to her through me. This was many years later at least 10 years later.
Another time several years later, about two I remember, also back in 1982 or so, the LORD impressed to me again . I was on my way with my wife to attend a prayer meeting at a husband and wife who were also members of the church we attended, the same church where the LORD told me to tell the young lady about the baby boy. This revelation that God had given me to tell the Sister at the house where she held the prayer meeting,. After the prayer meeting concluded, the LORD gave me a Word to give this dear Sister. It was from John 14:1-4. When I finished speaking forth these Words from the LORD, I turned to tell her what the LORD had impressed me to speak to her. She had been sick for some months and was in her bed in the house; This was a very difficult Word to give her and the husband. This is what I said to her: "You will not live, but you are going to die for I am taking you. This person that God ministered too through me was a woman of faith, who mentored.me for a number of years. After I spoke these words to her, she did not say anything, but her husband told me that God told him the same thing.
Now, there are many more episodes.in my life that God had done for me and through me.
Just wanted to share this with you, to encourage you having listened to this great discussion.

There are a couple of ways to view this story. 1. The Old man deliberately sinned by prophesying falsely and should have been put to death. This is different to a prophet trying to prophesy and getting it wrong. 2. The Old man didn't actually prophesy, he simply lied about an angel speaking to him. Many people had angels come to them that were not prophets and did not prophesy.

I think it would’ve been great to clarify the definition of “prophecy”. I was under the understanding that prophecy, biblically, is at least defined as preaching the gospel. It could be this idea of “Christian fortune telling”, but what is the need for that? You can’t foretell the most important piece of information (the time of christs return) so there’s no point in it besides personal gain.

Knowing your having a boy or girl is not evidence of God. There are other spirits who can be giving “words” from the spiritual realm. Is it the person with the “word” or Jesus that is glorified. It should be mentioned that we should assume Satan knows whether a woman is pregnant with a girl or a boy. For false prophets that give false prophecies, they likely mostly are just making everything up. But in cases where they are actually hearing the prophecies, I think it can be assumed to be they are listening to evil spirits, and in some cases, where Satan has some control, he may actually be able to force certain events that will cause prophecies to come true accordingly, or similarly. By that same token, if Michael Brown was hearing some voice telling him the gender of a child in the womb, we cannot be certain that it wasn't the voice of an evil spirit telling him that.
He has absolutely zero discernment, so why should we believe he is ever hearing from God?

The other issue is that people tend to replace the Word with "words" from the Lord. You don't have to look for or force anything... the Lord will do amazing things in our midst. Stop seeking the miracles and prophetic words.

The fact that Dr. Brown won't condemn some preacher/evangelists is most likely he has a fear of the Lord to call them heretics. He does not condone their methods either.
