For the best video experience, we recommend wearing a good set of headphones for the POV Test Drive at 3:20. The audio in this video was recorded with binaural microphones that, when played back through headphones, give the feel of 3D sound. Trick stuff.

Here's the thing...which one is most likely the one that's gonna make you go bankrupt when you go to the repair shop? The M3 or the IS-F??? Since the IS-F is a Toyota, it would probably never see the repair shop...
This comment aged VERY well
comment aged well lol, mine has 160k and dynoed recently at 420whp
One of the best sounding V8's around
+1, my friend has a 2008 ISF, not a single problem, 60K+ miles now.
BEAST and Rare ! Def would take this over a M3 or C63
Sweet sounding motor and exhaust! Too bad Lexus didn't sell many of these.
Man!! Love the way this car shifts gears! Awesome!
As someone who drives a 2011 M3 they are not as expensive as you think they are to own. Aside from tires and oil/fluid/brake changes I really haven't had any major problems. But you have to be on top of everything. In a Toyota you can wait. In a BMW you do it immediately.

Yesterday in autobahn (Deutschland) i was surprised whyeverybody was slowing down and suddenly i realised that the trees were moving heavily in all directions. Even though i tried to feel if the car is influenced by heavy wind, i didn't feel anything and i still was driving at plus 220m/h speed in total confidence. The only car who was also very fast was a BMW M5.
Ja Marco a 2011 ISF
that interior is amazing
This is gonna be my next Lexus. I want that same red leather interior with the blue stitching but I would love the color of the car black. And with those matte black rims, I'll be good to go!
Did you ever get one?
Great looking car, would love to test one of these myself ! I see you do more hand-held shots these days, less time consuming than using a tripod, but I'm still impressed how good the look in your videos, Chris. Thanks for another great video !
That's the thing, all of these cars have something that they do better over the others. Not one car is superior in every single category. So yes, it does come down to preference. I prefer the ctsv because it's rare and I think they nailed it when it comes to aesthetics.
My next Lexus will be a IS F similar to this one but I want mines in black!
I have to say i have had my is250 for 4 years and there is not one thing that was gone wrong with it. All i have done is get it serviced and mot'd. Unbelievably reliable car. I tell a lie i have changed the battery in the key fob! I would love an is-f
bigd78881 Irrespective of whether I have the money to fix a car or not I don't want to buy some POS that sits in the shop all the freaking time. There's a reason why a Veyron for example exists. It has the capability of doing 250MPH and doesn't have to be brought in on a trailer or prepped by a team to hit those speeds. You pay for quality and reliability. If reliability doesn't matter to someone that's fine but for a lot of people, you don't get rich by being stupid. Low reliability= low resale. Look at any Jaguar or BMW's sitting in used car lots that you would never dream of walking into. Nobody wants a used XKR despite the fact that it is an exceptional car.
Personally you can tune any car to be fast. Paying such money demands that you have a car that works. Tune an engine right and a performance car will never have any issues. Take the NSX back in the day. Still one of the most reliable power plants in the market.
Also your comment about quality of materials is so far off base its ridiculous. I'm a detailer on the side. I'd challenge you to detail an older Japanse car and an older German car side by side and see how the cars do. BMW is by far the worst for material longevity. The 2003 M3 shares the same switch gear with the 2010 M6 which is a $110,000 car. Ridiculous to spend that much when they're still packing in the same switches and material. Keep in mind that is what makes the experience. Without that you have a stripped down race car.
Whether you like it or not reliability and logevity are huge selling points to people that don't lease cars. Some of us like to own and cherish the experience. My Acura for example has 177,000 miles so far, is 10 years old and is still driven on the track and in autocross. Can't say that about a lot of cars.
+vidurc Excellent post.
vidurc check the veyron service intervals and cost. hope you're sitting down. my BMW has 200k miles and is as reliable as anything else up at the top.
Oh I'm well aware. They sell their own branded oil, the wheels have to be swapped once you change the tires 4 times since they claim the glue won't let the tires stick to it. It's all exorbitant.
You are deeply misguided if you think YOUR specific BMW makes all BMW's reliable.
There's some long term reliability statistics. BMW isn't doing well. I'm not saying that they have no reliable cars at all. However to claim BMW's in general are reliable because your is, is a misguided statement.
www.dashboard-light.com/reports/BMW.html
d1sturb3d you got veyron money bitch
TLDR
This ISF sounds like a fuckin beast. :) I wanted you to go faster when I heard that V8 start to roar, but you always stopped in 3rd gear :( lol. Nice video anyway.
08 and 12 rims are the sickest for the IS-F
I love that sound
I wonder who disliked and for what reason
Imagine that being your focus of the video
The "its a camry with leather seats" retards.
AWESOME video and awesome car man. Keep up the good work!!
Strongly disagree. Someone who is buying a car in this caliber, should not be worried about mileage, and how they will afford to keep the car out of warranty.
Also, you said both cars are overpriced..........I mean, you can't expect this to cost 20K...............
I noticed. It wouldn't be a big deal but its hard to see how fast the transmission reacts to commanded shifts.
Awesome videos! I was wondering if you are planning on doing an Acura TL SH-AWD video? It'd be great if you can do one. Great work, keep em' coming!
damn need to get the last model of ISF
Can't Wait for the new lexus IS-F
@Oggy never happening
Clever on the whole speedometer thing ;)
hmmmm not so sure about that, the GT is good but the much more modern suspension and chassis on the F would give it the upper hand.
Cant wait to see the one
Independent rear suspension..enough said
That thing has some powah. Sounds nice too. Don't like some of the cheap Toyota carryover bits and Lexus interiors in general are starting to look a little cheap.
@ fsimpro: please go ahead and take an Audi S4, an M3 and a G37......LOL. The Audi will spend 6 months in the shop, the G37 can't compete.
The center tach is there because engine speed is important when you race a car, Ferrari did the same thing.
You don't sound very intelligent about cars.
Factssssss
The all new IS is out, so the current ISF will cease production until they make the all new ISF.
Are those F Sport wheels? They look fantastic
You are correct. Year after year, Lexus, Toyota, Honda and Acura are proven to be the most reliable cars out there. Of course, the premium European cars are very nice and well made but they are simply not put together as well as the some Japanese cars. In fact, I recall the Audi A6 being ranked on the lest reliable luxury cars a few years ago.
Can't wait for the new IS-F :D
IF it ever arrives it will be a twin turbo v6 - not this brilliant v8
The last good year of the IS F before they hit it with the nerf bat.
What are you talking about?
NikoBell12 They ditched the fun and exhilarating V8 found in previous IS F's
Shawn Elliott They have yet to make a new IS F yet. What's out right now is the IS F-Sport which is a faux F just like BMW's M-Sport and Audi's S-Line.
+Shawn Elliott ROG!
Car was never nerfed, same motor/gearbox throughout all 6 years of production. Last year was 2014, only 86 units brought over to the U.S.
Best Car
The isf is just as fast if not quicker then the m3 I've owned both and drive the isf now.
Very nice car, exterior styling is getting old quickly to me. This DOHC 5.0L makes me glad that you can get a suitable substitute in a Ford Mustang.
i gotta 06 M too. love it
Pure love
For that money I'd get myself the C63... But that's just my preference.
Have you driven all of them first hand? I'm looking to buy the cts-v in a year or two...
Awesome!!!!
Those throttle blips!!!
I noticed you never used the paddles. Is that because the 8 speed shifted so fast in Sport Mode that the paddles weren't necessary?? ;-)
victor bozzo he does at around the 4:30 minute mark.
@Anton Zuykov On this car, they actually can and it's been proven
What camera setup do you guys use to record your videos?
Why is he not using the paddle shifters?!! Didn't u notice?
I like how the car rocks when revving eventough it isnt exactly a very soft suspension lol
wish the grt was around the same price instead of 2x
How can you disagree when you're making the same point I am. Here's a novel idea, learn to read the post you're replying to before commenting.
Again, I didn't say the cars were overpriced. I said parts / labor are. My IS350's brake pads and rotors at the dealer were a cool grand + labor, so I chose to get the parts online and do the work myself.
I can only image the ISF is much worse.
I got to thinking and decided to go run down to my local BMV to pick up the latest Driver's Manuel. Just as I expected... You are driving in an unsafe and possibly illegal manor. 😂
be smart buy a car that has the most horsepower and torque form older generations then new cars.
More gears? loL, so an amp that has a volume that goes to 11 is louder too! You must live under a rock. It has tested slower in every comparison including the ring.
get so bored with these comparisons - no-one spends their life racing round the "Ring
And yet it has the same track time around VIR(3:05.4) as the M3
These are cool cars, but the C63, M3, and even CTS-V offer more fun for about the same money.
until the dealer visits start......
i like the red seats but all the blue stitching with it looks weird... like some superman type shit lol
ISFast asF boi Fast asF
maybe not a gt but a boss im confident would
I want one how much for a spec like this
sounds like M3 E92
anyway thanks for video
184 miles with a near full tank of gas? Jesus..
my '11 ISF will do 30+ MPG (UK) on long runs. When you are on it tho....10-15
super nice
anyone knows what's the beeping? about
ok i get it
Can you do a 2014 Acura RLX, please?
Camera ?
For sale ?
why he zoomed in?
Before you insinuate that someone is naïve or stupid, you should probably read my question again...read the question...then answer. Germans are very delicate, Italians even more so. Repair shops salivate when they see these things coming through their doors. Toyota has the rep of being bulletproof, reliability is not a question, which is why Lexus does so well in resale...you really need to check yourself before you come off as being a little less than intelligent yourself-food for thought
Sorry, I meant to reply to someone else about the M3 comment. Disregard. (wrong reply)
Silver exterior with red interior. Who thought that looked good
It's called IS F, not IS-F.
yeah, found out after typing the comment, thats such a shame tho
Amen
what do you mean RIP?
I still stand with Alain how can you argue with someone about reliability? Also because someone has money you think they're okay with having to spend extra on repairs. I'll go with the IS-F
Me like it.
Also, the center-mounted tach is a silly design since there's no manual transmission option on this car.
Lexus IS F , new mercedes CLA 45 AMG, Audi S5, god what to get. only thing that is a clear cut + is IS F is rear wheel, in PA our snow is shitttt
If the IS F is a no due to weather, I'd get the CLA if you want more practicality than the S5. Otherwise get the S5.
NikoBell12 AMG CLA is really tough to find at the moment, so S5 you think are good cars?
Yeah. I want one myself.
NikoBell12 i have to find one locally i can test drive
Try the Japanese reliability, Germans are good at doing poorly reliable turbo charged engines.
Both really nice cars. Yes Toyota/Lexus are more reliable when it comes to the mechanical aspect of things. When it comes to materials/quality and the focal point of racing, BMW dominates in comparison. Yes, it's more likely that you'll see an M3 in a repair shop vs the IS-F but the type of people who are purchasing these cars can afford the price tag and keep it up anyhow so its not really a deciding factor. Performance cars in general have less reliability becomes their made for performance
so its ok that they break coz people have money......great buying recommendation....
You should do a POV of the 2013 Lotus Exige S, a proper driver's car.
….thats breaks a lot.
If you're worried about repair costs, you don't have enough money for the M3 or the ISF. On the other hand, if you're worried because its your daily driver and you need it to start up everyday, that's another thing.
I hope you also realize that both cars are expensive to maintain. Brake pads, tires, spare parts, for both cars are stupidly overpriced.
not true
This model is the most beautiful of all, the 2014 model is a bit ugly in the front. :(
Even it isn`t the most fast car between M3, C63, i would pick this one because is a special car... I just love the 2011-2013 Lexus IS-F.
5.0L v8 ENGINE ---> 420 hp 417 hp ?¿?¿?
anyone know the 0-60 on the 2013 or 2014 one? ik the 2011 is 4.4
No idea but I recently acquired a Nebula Grey 2013 ISF with 83k miles. I will test it out with my Dragy when the weather permits.
The devil's child of the IS line . . the F
sweet car I have 2010 is 250. Does anyone know type of engine this one have?
V6
the one in the video has a 5litre NA V8
@miko. No 6spd or dual-clutch available(slushbox only). Slower and heavier than the M3 too.
Enough said?
notification to shift gears.
Were these cars RWD or AWD?
IS F is RWD
I'm driving 2009 model
I hope your please enjoy
V8 5000cc silky and strong POWER !
Doesn't seem like a very good handler, very slow turn-in as well.
We like it when the back end goes loose
It really wouldn't.
RIP
That's what I need... an IS-F not an IS350 F-Sport. Can anyone loan me some money plz thanx
5:22 nice :D
5:22
Why are you afraid of the lorries? :P
All comparison to the M3 aside this can be compared to the 335 for now. just wait for the isf to release them we can compare it to its main rival ///M
5:22 awwwww yeeeaaaaah
