Pere David's deer are native to China but thrive in the wet swamps of Argentina. In the heart of the Red Stag roar, Mark and team put on the miles for two days before they catch up to a giant Pere David's Buck.

âExtremely rare to get a tagâ - sorry, but thatâs a load of crap. I just returned from Argentina and there are NO âtags in Argentina, for one. In Argentina the ONLY big game hunting permitted is âexoticâ species; and they donât control nor do the CARE what or how many exotics are killed. Theyâre just expensive - starting at $13k at the ranch I hunted. One of my buddies killed one far larger than this. I hate when people overhype the story - as if the ACTUAL, TRUE story isnât good enough. Lol!
They can also be taken on plenty of Texas ranches but the quality isnât near what they produce in Argentina, due to the mineral content of the soil. Thatâs why I went to Argentina to kill a once-in-a-lifetime red stag. I harvested a 481 1/8â stag but I saw some bigger; I just couldnât afford anything bigger than what I killed.
Look, Iâm involved with hunting TV so I get it, wanting to produce the most intriguing content. The shows I work for are on Sportsmanâs Channel & Outdoor Channel and like ALL shows thereâs a bit of embellishment; but this is truly egregious. Plus, this Pere David is not even a good scoring animal. A Pere Davidâs score is largely determined by those small points protruding from what most people would call the âtinesâ that protrude backward. Donât believe me? Go look at the SCI score sheet. Iâm not saying itâs a bad score but for Argentina itâs just a âgoodâ deer.
My real point here is that the hunt is a unique one on its own. Why lie and embellish? They didnât even explain the INCREDIBLE story behind this deer species - brought back for the very edge of extinction more than 100 years ago! Isnât THAT enough?

Not a problem at all! I have no partnerships with Garmin, so this is strait up personal choice and honest reference. Im using the FENIX 5 and love it. I know the 6 is out now with some new features but I just don't need the upgrade right now. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.
Just thought Iâd chime in and add that I use a a Tactix 7 Delta because it has the Applied Ballistics app. I upgraded from the Fenix 5X for better battery life. I like having my ballistics app handy when Iâm hunting - particularly when traveling. I wish they had it on a Fenix model like they used to but I didnât get a say. Lol. Iâve trusted Brian Litzâs data for almost 2 decades and I use it for all my competitive shooting and hunting. If you donât want or need the ballistics app, Iâd just stick with a Fenix w/ sapphire glass. The whole âDeltaâ thing is just marketing hype, imo. If youâre happy with the 5 still and donât need/want more battery life or new features (most of which I have ZERO use for) Iâd just stick with what ya got. Smart watches are disposable - they arenât collectible and will inevitably end up in a landfill so they make a terrible investment unless you have a true need or use for the specific apps they provide.

Ohh we had empanadas with many meals! Hands down a favorite from the area when it comes to food. We did have backstrap from this guy the following evening. It was just as good as elk in my opinion!

No theyâre not
This is a LIE. Period. FULL STOP. They were hunted to near extinction by the mid 19th Century (thatâs the 1800âs for you non-history buffs) and the last herd, of 12 animals was discovered in the Emperorâs private hunting reserve outside Beiging by French zoologist and missionary PĂšre Armand David, who visited China in 1861. He eventually sent some of these deer to European parks and zoos. ALL PĂšre David deer today descend from those 12 animals. Zoos kept the species alive and expanding until the conservation effort transitioned to hunters and landowners who bought and bred and expanded the world population to the point that it could be sustainably hunted. Like many other species (i.e. Scimitar Oryx, Bighorn sheep, bison, etc) HUNTERS have saved the the PĂšre David derby providing the funds and land and protection with the hope of a future where the species will be healthy enough to be hunted; and the hunting, later, provides the income for further breeding and growth of the species to the point where re-introduction is possible!
The west started re-introducing them to China in 1980 and there are over 5,000 known animals in China currently. The only reason there arenât 100,000 there now is the result of the Communist Chinese Regimeâs disinterest in the animal, their mismanagement of natural habitat and the poverty of rural Chinese who poach animals just to stay alive under the regime!
Thanks to hunters and hunting this speciesâ future is certain. While they are certainly endangered in their native habitat, much of which has been destroyed by its stewards, they are NOT âendangeredâ in the sense you implied. So, how about a BIG âthank youâ to us hunters in the United States and Argentina (as well as a few other places) that maintain and continue to grow the species!!

@@CarsonClary No, it is not. It is a skill and a tradition. Some idiots have certainly made it a sport, but that isn't what it is.
You donât HAVE to get it. If you donât like it, donât do it. But, just a little FYI: the reason this previously highly endangered species (like many other formally endangered, but traditionally hunted, species) has been brought back to sustainable and growing levels BY HUNTERS, and the revenue that hunting provides to further conservation. You may find some interesting facts in a long post I made in a reply to a comment above. IF, that is, you have the capacity to have an open and are willing to actually learn something.
@@dtom420 thank you for the reply. Yes I am open minded and fully understand conservation and tradition hunting for the need to survive. What I do not understand is why hunters think you are so great for having fun killing this animal (for money) parade the body around, then say you are doing the world a service. But I have American colleagues who go hunting, then stuff the animal, display it in their house and say itâs a beautiful thing. Pest control videos I get. They shoot the hogs because they are destructive, and show the kill count. Maybe Iâm not so open minded. Anyway, have fun.
