Woow, South Main Auto is following Dan. Scanner Danner is missing from the picture in order to have the ultimate knowledge trio. By the way, Dan, what type of power probe is that? Can you give a link or a full name and model? Thank you in advance.
A proper diagnostician in Europe that decided to go on camera. Not enough thumbs-up for your videos. A big thank you for helping to decipher the contorted ways of European car makers. You fill a big gap here. Happy New Year!
You made finding that broken wire look easy. I confess I am usually tempted to install jumper wires from a to b instead of pulling a whole harness apart. Once more hats off to you.
As I get older, I’m looking to retrain. My background was in sales for 20 years but 10 years ago I became an MOT tester. I don’t have a great understanding of electrics but I feel I really want to get into the diagnostic side and work things out and help fix things right first time. Your channel is provoking lots of positive thoughts that I should just go for it!
Good one Dan, it makes sense why they incorporated the Intake temp sensor with the MAP in a diesel. Found a new use for my vacuum pump. Ty Dan keep em coming.
Dan another excellent troubleshooting video, also another educational video explaining how the MAP sensor works. Even though I had to educate myself on kPa and atmospheric pressures and vacuum. All knowledge is helpful. Thanks very much. Those wiring diagrams are excellent. They definitely help in the troubleshooting process. Cheers 👍👍
Love the way you explane Things. You don't talk to fast and everything is well explaned 👌. Do you Ever get confused on anything? 😜. You really Are a pro 💪
Great video! This fault is very common on this generation of VAG engines, so I always check there first. Never experienced an open circuit on a map sensor, but several issues with crank and cam position sensors and coolant temperature sensor. My guess was the connection housing on the sensor was filled with oil. Also a common problem, but only on cars with the sensor placed near the inter cooler.
@DiagnoseDan you should definitely make a tour around your workshop. I would love to see the tools that you use and love the most and some recommendations for the other technicians what to buy, what is not worth to buy and so on ;)
I have the exact same problem on a 2003 Bora tdi 130, only difference is the Kpa is 255 for me. Gonna have a look if this is the cause for me also, but even if not this is the best diagnosing video I have seen.
Hi,Dan I enjoy watching all you videos, very well explanation & diagnosed , your auto technician skill is ten out of ten ,thanks for sharing with us all your hard work
Years ago i tested a Ford Map sensor with a voltmeter. The signal stays on 6Volt. With the scope I saw a variation of the frequency. This mapsensor signal was frequency depended. Why 6 Volt? The frequenty changed but the duty cycle stays on 50%. So my voltmeter indicated the half of the battery tension. 12 V x 50% = 6Volt. This prove a scope is a very important instrument. Thanks Dan for this video.
youre great at explaining stuff !!! i pretty much knew everythin just watched it because you were so good at explaining it lol also I like that power probe you have !!! you should put an affiliate link to it ! that is a great video man
if you look at my videos I have a video named "2015 Passat TDI 6mt" based on what you see from way my car behaves would you guess whats wrong with it ? I already have had my computer map checked and issue seem to be with hardware though I dont get any check engine light !! I can do a VCDS scan !! do you think you would be able to get an idea of whats wrong with it ? @@Diagnosedan
Can I ask what software you were using there? Looks very impressive. I also want to say thank you for your videos. You put a lot of time and effort into explaining things and I appreciate this a lot. You are a natural instructor.
Thanks Andrew that's a Nice thing to say. I guess you are talking about the scope software. I'm using the Gmto scope with Atis Software. For more info go the Ryans Automotive website.
Dan, cool video as always. Going to check my wires on my 750li 06. Will check as over here in Canada, the MAP sensors are so darn expensive. When i look at the sensor it appears brand new?? Will check the low point in wiring harness as well. Not sure why they made the wires so dainty? Also, watched your video on VW air problems. My sons 08 Tiguan has an ac problem...will tell him to check temp sensor and blower resistor? Problems, problems, problems. My front passenger window stopped the other day as well. I'm kinda thinking it is a ground problem effecting a myriad of problems. Now my Porsche 911, i took it to a shop once upon a time. The cruise was working when it went in...they unfixed it some how. I just tried putting some wd40 in the cruise control lever? WD40 worked on my power window and moon roof switches. So hey give it a shot. I remember the mechanic saying we disconnected the decelerater vacuum as the car will perform better?? I say some mechanics just scare the crap out of me. PS Also watched your video on the ABS module where you found another one of those dainty wires. Your the greatest. Too bad you couldn't diagnose via what's app.
awsome video thank u.. why does powerprobe reading show 20m50.5 when you were not hooked up to the 5 volt reference feed on map sensor.. what does 20m50.5 mean
GRUSS Newton The Power probe is a great tool as long as you use it properly! The tool has it's limitations but as long you know what they are your fine! I Love PP i have 3 of them😉
DiagnoseDan just watched a video on the ‘hook’ can it measure starter amperage just by measuring the positive terminal on the battery when cranking the starter?
i'm pleased I found your channel, you know your stuff, could you do a video on how to use the snapon/bluepoint voltage reference probe (v r probe) cheers mate
First time I ever heard of a VW Caddy. Had to look it up. We don't have that vehicle in the USA at all and if it was, they'd use a different name. Here it's common to refer to Cadillacs as a Caddy.
DiagnoseDan correct, never enough!! I have the older autel maxisys mini 905 software up to date and when it comes to bidirectional control it beats the snap on Verus, also the ford software is just like IDS, Vauxhall (Opel GM) just like tech2 (GDS) and Volkswagen like vcds very impressive, although data logging is not very good on playback not as good as Verus cheers Dan, Sandy

Very informative but it would provide guidance to know that someone ALREADY put a new map sensor beforehand, as evident from the vehicle being 13 years old and having such a clean and shiny sensor which would generally rule out TESTING sensor before checking powers and ground (wiring) first. I noticed you failed to mention that or did I miss it?
Nice fix Dan!

Dan you're a genius I love how you take time to diagnose the fault, you would have been a great assistant to Sherlock Holmes

WOW thanks!
