- The Saints had only one win on the board after 8 rounds when they took on the highly fancied Collingwood who were sitting in 4th place on the ladder with 5 wins from 8 games. The Saints were still a tricky opponent to beat at Moorabbin and this was a danger game for the Pies.
I enjoyed this so much.
What I'd give for a tape of the 1975 match at Moorabbin between these two sides, where Fabulous Phil (wearing the White Boots) kicked 11 to deny the Saints a finals place. I doubt any footage of the "O'Dea/Greening" incident exists but that would be something else.
Would love that game as well!

Channel 7 was definitely there as l remember watching the replay.
I was thiiiissss close to being a Saint - l still remember the scene in 1972 when my Cat uncle and Saint aunt fought over who l would barrack for. She ended up taking me to my first game in 73 (Roy's at the Junction) ...but Cats were already in my heart. Not by much tho, and l still shed tears at the thought of being at the last game my Saint grandmother attended (Blues at Moorabbin - 75) . Anyway, my point is that my aunt had been taking me to Saints games since 74 and l went to her place and found a footy record from that Saints/Woods game in 75. I complained to her that she didn't take me and she made her excuses. I'm convinced that she didn't take me because of how she perceived how dangerous it might be, especially considering how recent the "Greening incident"was.
The 70s was the best...

The first footy l can remember watching is the end-of-season Carnival, where Carlton thrashed Sturt, and then Mal Brown knocked out half of Carlton in the next game. I also remember watching the 74 GF, and l just wonder why every Big League and Winners isn't freely available to watch somewhere. Same with the WOS footy panels, League Tems and the Brownlow. Sure, some of it is purported to be "lost", but even so.....
