  • In this tutorial, we explore the powerful tool of deconvolution in Siril. Deconvolution allows us to enhance the resolution and details of our images by removing the effects of atmospheric distortion and other sources of blurring.

    I've been following your channel for a while and I cannot stress enough how amazing and helpful these tutorials are. You have upped my enjoyment of this hobby and my processing knowledge immeasurably. Keep up the great work!!! It will be interesting to see a full processing video that integrates the new additions to Siril in the overall workflow. The beginner's tutorial is/was my bible since it came out and I'd love to see how your flow has evolved with ALL the new features of Siril. Thanks again!

      Thanks so much! I love hearing stuff like this! I do plan on doing a couple of new start to finish videos in the future, but I want to hold off until 1.2.0 comes out of beta. Thanks again for the great comment!

    Really enjoying these presentations- i’m a big fan of SiriL but stil haven’t got to grips with all its functionality so watching you take me through some of the new features is a great help. No one else is doing this today on CZcams so good niche to consolidate!👏👏👏

    Nice one Rich, I personally think your the best tutorial on Siril, and I’m beginning to think Siril is getting even nearer to PI
    Maybe a full tutorial from start to finish on the new beta could help
    I’d watch it, clear skies

    You do the best videos for this product. Unfortunately, I've spent this entire week just trying to process a wide shot of the Orion Constellation with one problem after another. It does fix those elongated stars but I loose my saturation. I have watched almost every video of yours. Thanks for cranking these out.

    Rich, thank you so much for these videos. They're awesome for beginners like myself. Question for you - can you do the deconvolution on just the star mask and use something else to sharpen the starless image? Or is that just a waste of time?

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro  Před 8 dny

      Thanks! So deconvolution can help with the DSO as well. Next time you run it, don't just watch the stars, watch the what effect it has on the object. With that said, I've haven't ran decon on the star masks, but nothing wrong with experimenting with things like that. There are a few different ways to sharpen. I usually take the starless into PS and use the clarity function in camera raw, but you could use wavelets, AstroSharp, unsharp, etc. and see what works best for you.

    What about galaxies. I have a FIT stacked file and it only has 947 stars. The PSF range is 0.000065 to 0.805557. Do I still need to crop or filter a range at longer focal lengths? The focal length is 1280mm. Thanks

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro  Před 2 měsíci

      What I show is a good place to start. If the range isn't giving you the results you like, then change it or turn it off completely. The cropping is just intended to speed the process while you are determining the final settings. You don't have to do it, if you don't mind waiting a bit longer for it to finish.

    Does deconvolution keep it's information when doing star removal and replacement later in the workflow , thanks

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro  Před rokem +1

      Since it's deconvoluting prior to star removal, yes the star mask should still have that data.

    Found it hard to see any difference in these. Maybe it will be more visible in the end or maybe youtube compression ruins it.

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro  Před rokem

      Yeah it can be hard to see in the video. It's a subtle change, but if you go too much then things don't look right.

      Neither could I but, to be quite honest, having watched and listened to tons of astrophotography post processing videos, I’ve come to the conclusion that most of these guys are OCD.

  • @EvenTheDogAgrees
    @EvenTheDogAgrees Před 28 dny

    Gonna be honest here, I didn't notice any difference until the darker area at the very end. Perhaps it was due to the YT compression, combined with the fact that you were working on bright objects against a brighter background, or perhaps my eyes are starting to fail me. Anyway, interesting content, thanks for uploading.

    Very informative video but I suggest you define your TLA**
    ** TLA=Three Letter Acronym. In this case, the TLA is "PSF" which means Point Spread Function.

    I was wondering if deconvolution is just for the stars or for sharpening the details in the nebulosity?

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro  Před 6 měsíci

      No it's for the entire image as well. Just tend to be more pronounce on the stars sometimes.

  • @robj144
    @robj144 Před rokem

    Cool video. But, you chose a lot of saturated stars to model your PSF in the dynamic PSF dialog. I thought you want to avoid saturated stars.

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro  Před rokem +1

      Good point. It may be better to avoid them, but I wonder how much of a difference it would make. I'll have to do a comparison.

    How did you know you were in linear mode with the screen is showing autostretch?

    • @DeepSpaceAstro
      @DeepSpaceAstro  Před měsícem +1

      Because I hadn't stretched the image yet. That's what the Autostretch does for you. Shows you the data prior to stretching. If I was to changed to the Linear view, it would be a black screen, indicating that it's not yet stretched.
