In England on the Thames, we rented a beautiful 12 seater electric boat. Until you drive one, you can't imagine the difference.
Very cool. They could have snuck in a few more panels by using the edge fully. It could fully cover the bulwarks. And could have a sliding section that goes over the fore deck.
And with AI autopilot that can see any obstacles it can sail unattended. Then it's magic.
Sunreef already did it on their catamarans. This electric thing is something they want to impose, but no one says what will happen with millions of batteries, nor has anyone ever explained, because when electric cars catch fire, as well as buses, they could never put out the fire to anyone, since they Start up to the ashes, there's nothing left.
I saw a CZcamsr review in the Med and they didn't need the power it generates. If I remember correctly, they only used about 60% of the power generated daily to fully operate the boat. That one was made by a company in Europe.
@@samhavoc1066 when it's not sailing no doubt it's plenty. but I meant for sailing. If for instance it can do 10kts instead of 5, that matters.
Yep... more solar panels the better. You can increase cruising speed and more flexibility during cloudy days. If you have excess power you can mine bitcoins.
Most kudos go to the efficiency of the vessel and the low impact on nature and still innovating. Lovely yacht 🪢
I've always like the idea of these boats, not because they are "green" but because it frees you, to a large extent, from fuel costs and lengthens you stay at remote destinations. The only real improvement these boats needs is the ability to run at atleast 10 knots without the Kite assistance. It is not hard at all to find yourself in a 4 to 5 knot current or wind at that would always require additional power to maintain a positive speed. Nonetheless, really nice boats!

Well i have the same feeling with my Electric car. It gives me freedom, because i decide where the power comes from. Not some oil company. With my own solar panels and batteries at home. I am in charge of my own energy. That's why i also love this ship.
that'd require either a revolution in solar technology or a much larger, wider boat with a larger area for solar collection.
I wonder if they'll make smaller versions for single sailors or a couple's cruiser in the 40' range.

i want one, but i want that generator gone and a high powered battery pack in place of it :), it would function the same as the generator it would just be like a back up battery bank but it could actually run the whole boat, and you could use it to either boost your speed or your range, that would be AWESOME!
Fibreglass definately isn't green, but that's my only big gripe. The rest they do well (saving some weight may not be a bad idea).
I do love the idea of being able to cruise around without having to literally buy tonnes of diesel.

I love this OMG, You don't know how much I hate Sail boats with all those winches and ropes all over the place to trip on and all those freaking different sails to deal with, I want one so bad, But I'm living in a rich man's dream in a poor man's reality 😊.

How about the efficient are these solar panels at charging
Imagine with passenger cruise ships, including mid-size versions might happen later in life even if the whole world did this. Even United Caribbean Union must do this also including work together helping each other for the year 2024 and beyond.
What if this set up was in a normal motor yacht,Would it be near as efficient as a catamaran?
Can you cross atlantic ocean with this boat?
Will it make it from California to Hawaii.?
A Fabulous boat! I would add a couple of wind generators and seriously look at some sort of wave powered generator to compliment it too 👍
The idea of wind generated power on a moving object has always confused me. Regardless of what vessel or how fast it is going, wouldn't the power gained from the spinning wind turbines be canceled out by how much drag that whole process puts on the entire system?
@@jrjubach for a head wind mostly, tail and cross winds can be beneficial though.
@@jrjubach I assume he means for when at anchor. Underway I doubt it would be very beneficial.

While not a bad video, i feel you shortchanged the Silent 60 by failing to mention the optional Kite Sail System which increases the range & speed over ground capabilities of the yacht nor did you mention the various power/energy configurations available. Oh, and the canned clips of the Silent Yacht in the Med, please.
Was this one constructed in the states or did someone sail it from Italy??

I can never get used to people dropping the 'ing' from 'flying bridge', and just calling it a 'fly bridge'. It always reminds me of flies instead of flying.
Weird I've never heard it called a flying bridge before.
Waiting for Elon Musk to come up with a Silent Yacht.... Love how they don't need fuel to run but still they are very expensive...

IMO the solar boat needs sails, that way you can harness the power of the wind and the sun. It might seem like an obvious thought process

I don’t know why you can’t steer the boat with an I pad while your are relaxing at the bow.
I’m pretty sure you can, I believe there’s also a wireless remote control to help with berthing, especially if single handed 👌

The question is are you going to use it as designed so you very seldom need to turn the generator on. I seen an interview with the owners of the company. The prototype, they sailed or motored around Europe for over a year and never used a full tank of diesel fuel. They if they had a longer passage they tried to travel at night. There was enough power for engine's and everything else. They stayed put through the day for the batteries to top back off if you travel smart but weather safe you should never use much fuel.
A Silent Yacht has crossed the Atlantic Ocean. I can't remember the fuel burn but it wasn't very much fuel. People get really bent out of shape that these things still use some fuel. The proper way to view them is like a plug in hybrid car with a 100 mile battery range. Meaning that you'll never put gas in your phev as long as you're going to the store or work and plugging in at home. If you take a long trip then you'll need gas after 100 miles. Similar usage with the Silent Yacht.

E tutto questo senza neanche entrare nella diatriba sul consumo di risorse per la produzione e sulle cambiali di futuro smaltimento per quegli enormi pacchi batteria.

Calling green and it really being green are two different animals.
Concordo al 100%, per raggiungere i 4 nodi un buon vogatore può farcela, anche di notte quando non c'è il sole. Quando devi acquistare il pacco batteria e pagare per farlo portare via da qualcuno, ti ricorderai di aver passato le pompe e non aver fatto rifornimento.
Don't say "kilowatts per hour." That's not the proper unit for power. It's just kilowatts! Kilowatts are a measure of energy consumed during a period of time. One Joule (unit of energy) per second is one Watt (unit of power). Because a Joule is so small, it's usually easier to measure energy in kilowatt hours (kWh). Consuming one kilowatt of power from your battery for an hour will consume one kWh of energy from your battery. Dividing a number of Joules by 3600 gives you Wh, since there are 3600 seconds in one hour. For example, imagine you consumed 7200 Joules of energy from a battery. How many Watt hours of energy is that. 7200J x 1h/3600s x (1W / 1J/s) = 2Wh. Battery capacities (stored energy) are often given in Wh, but even more often in amp hours (Ah) and a nominal voltage. To get from Ah to Wh, multiply the Ah times the voltage: Ah x V = Wh. 100Ah x 12.8V = 1280 Wh (or 1.28 kWh).

How can it be totally Green, it isn't. That is a just not true.
Save the planet, nope. Buying something will never do that. Not buying a yacht in the first place is a much better way to save the planet. Otherwise incredible energy intensive water home I'd love to have.
The stern....I can go aft to the stern...I can go forward to the bow. But you can't stand in THE AFT, YOU CANT STAND IN THE FORWARD they are only directions they are not positions. I will go aft and do some fishing off the stern.... transom.... cockpit can't fish of the forward. Let's do some knitting and then cast off. Or let go forward let go aft.
Another useless boat. Good to sail on lakes. If you are facing currents against the boat, or a bit rough sea, at 4/5 knots you will not even move. At 10 knots, running the generator, the boat will burn more gasoline than if she had a diesel engine (because transforming energy is never convenient). Finally, when the lithium batteries need to be changed, it will be less expensive to throw away the boat.
Wrong on all accounts, impressive! Do you know how much torque these motors have? At 1/4 throttle it'll still move 4-5 knots easily, even with cross winds. At 10 knots you use
@@simons780 if the current against you is 7 knots, please explain me how you think you can proceed going 4 knots. Same if you have a 3 meters wave at bow. Torque works for cars, not for boats

To recharge the batteries you need a big generator.
Use a diesel engine with the same hp of the generator for running the boat and the consumption will be less. When you transform energy you always have losses

Please explain why a yacht like Eclipse saves roughly 20% more fuel when using Diesel Electric generation and electric motor AZIPOD's compared to a similar vessel using Diesel powered propeller?
hint: the energy transfer is more efficient from Diesel Generator to kW's and kW's to the electric motor than HP of a diesel is transferred to a propeller.
The Silent 55 is a beautiful vessel as well! Silent 7 I believe is the name of the one I seen!🛥✌
