'Start with the lowest value pH buffer' but isn't it supposed to be pH 2? Or does it automatically detect the pH 4 buffer?

This depends on the buffer group that one selects on the meter. If you select a buffer group with pH 4.01 the meter calibrates with 4.01 using auto-recognition mode. If you wish to calibrate using pH 1.68 (the lowest) you will have to select a buffer group that includes this buffer.
