Disney Movie Club at Walmart??? - The State of Physical Media in 2024

  • In this video, I give a little tour of the movie section at a Walmart store as of early March 2024. I made this video especially to point out that they are selling a few previous exclusives of the Disney Movie Club, which I was very surprised to see. I also discuss the state of physical media in retail (mainly big box) stores in 2024 and how it is rapidly evolving this year as compared to previous years.

    Screw digital media , we can't always relie on it to always work , plus its good to own physical copies. Especially When physical Media goes away , ill have my collection . When people are looking for physical copies of series and movies, then who's laughing now! ❤😂

      One time, I saw a movie for free on Vudu. When I got around to wanting to watch it, it was gone. But now I have a physical copy, and I can watch it whenever I want. Digital is convenient, but you can never rely on it to always be there, and they might change or remove scenes. Like you, I'll always hold onto my physical media collection. 🙂

      Exactly. Streaming is fine, but you can always expect the internet to cut out sometimes. Also, it doesn’t that all those cool special features that DVDs and Blu-Ray’s have. I am also seriously nostalgic about those old previews. I’m proud to own DVDs and Blu-rays from all over the world, such as a British Blu-Ray of Casablanca, a Canadian DVD of The Mummy Returns, and an Italian Blu-Ray of Schindler’s List.
      I saw this gorgeous DVD box set of the complete series of Friends, and I regret never picking it up.

    I saw *Step by Step the Complete series,* and was going to pick it up thinking the price point would be around $30 to $40. Walmart wanted *$80* for it. Walmart / Disney priced an early 90s family sitcom at *$80* in the year *2024,* when very few people are still investing heavily in physical media. It's like they don't want to move units. They are being just as stubborn with their price points today as they were when *"Tv shows on dvd"* was a new concept back in 2003. There was nothing fancy about the release. No bonus features, no commentary tracks on select episodes. . . nothing. It's like they don't want to bend the knee, and admit that it's no longer 2003. Back when they could totally price gouge fans because physical media was their main / only option to view old show.

      @UmmYeahOk Před 4 měsíci

      @@franksandoval6046Betamax lost out to VHS because of cost and availability. Laserdisc never had a chance due to expense, and availability. Once DVD became the affordable superior format, that killed off both laserdisc and VHS. HDDVD really didn’t stand a chance since people had just bought and invested in DVD, so they were in no hurry to change formats, but once Sony released the PS3, then everyone had an affordable Blu-ray player with better processing power.
      UMD however was a joke. I’m surprised you even brought it up. It was Sonys attempt at making their failed minidiscs usable by packaging them differently to be played as games on the PSP. Since Sony is also a film distributor, making them a movie format was a good idea for people who traveled a lot.

    Unfortunately a few weeks ago my Walmart did a whole bunch of renovations to their electronics section and has now minimized the physical media to be one shelf and the bargain bin. And after talking to some of the workers it seems that they won’t get many releases anymore. Indiana Jones 5 came out on bluray in December and my Walmart never got it and I ended up having to order it on Amazon. I am very scared and saddened by the current state of physical media and how the majority of average people are just treating it as garbage nowadays.

    Our wal-mart looks like yours but the new releases shelf are still at the hall and we have more anime titles at ours. We have a $5 bin and $8 bin as well. Records and action figures take up parts of the dvd area. The new releases at the front of the store are gone. Target 97% is gone replaced with manga and books. New releases at checkout are gone as is the $5 shelf by the food area replaced with books. Our dollar stores dumped 99% of the dvds and our thrift stores went from areas of dvds to your lucky to get a bin or shelf. Ross has dumped all dvds and only two or three at five below.

    Not one person walked past you the whole time you had the camera focused on the dvd bin! 😂 I don’t want to assume that you know about Disney’s problems. In truth, there may not be a Disney around next year! That’s likely the reason you’re seeing those DVDs at Walmart!

    Nice video - i am 52 years of age and i started collected VHS tapes back in the late 1980s and all of the sudden the Dvd`s came. so my vhs player could not play movies anymore so i threw 2 giant garbage bags full of vhs tapes. My james bond Vhs collection and movies i really enjoyed. I started collected Dvd`s. So soon they stopped to sell dvd`s. Now i collect blu rays... and even 4K movies..and what is so freaking frustrating is that Netflix or Disney or digital media are not giving us old movies in their so called Libraries. I can`t find old movies from the 70s..or slasher horror movies. Only like famous movies - Halloween etc. But no Hammer films etc. I really dislike Netflix because they have some movies but all of the sudden they delete their films for some reason. You buy like 3 steaming channels, and pay a litte each month but so you get tired of looking. I think we all need to collect fysical media....but i am guessing i am 2 old.... i miss the old days

    Nobody wants half those junk DVDs or blu rays. I remember going to best buy 15 to 20 years ago and finding great horror movies for cheap. They stopped carrying the good movies and now you have to go to scream factory to buy them

    It makes me feel very sad that they are trying to feed out videos and c. Ds, the reason why I say that is because I still love videos and d. V. D and c Ds and some people don't have phones. Or internet, some people don't even have cable. Some people still don't have a smart t. V, so in a way it just taken away from things that people are used to having. I think it's on fair. I think that it's just morally wrong to take away things that some people may not um understand. I have lots of DVD's in the house. I have lots of cds in the house. I have tapes. I have cassettes. I have, I have records. I have them all and I would really like to get ahold of more. They are having a mother of all yard sales in my town in May so I might be able to get more. Because if they're gonna faze all this stuff out. We better find it while we can

    My local Dollar General stores are putting all DVD and BRD content at 50% off. All Dollar Tree stores I went to over the past 6 months have shown little to no re-stocking of physical media. Dollar Tree used to put out boxes and boxes of physical media on Black Friday in last November’s, but they all put out very little this past November.

    Hehe If I had the money on a gift card still for merely stowing up by as many as feasible fwiw id buy tones of the tv show boxes of box set dvds fwiw for sure but fwiw it was crazy how mich I understimated fwiw the cost a boxed set I figured about 20 usd regardless of the series or show.. fwiw lol the ones like the long running ones like the simpsons I bet is 16 hundred dollars or more fwiw up to about a few grand for Sesame Street the 69?-2004 series not to mention 2004-present day.. but fwiw I assume it is becase of how ,any decades sesame street has been going for,, hehe for over 50 years now so thatvis ig not so unreasonable for a long running and over 500gb amoumt of data fwiw to store in such high end qaulity particularly for stuff thats tough to acqiire fwiw but also remaster and upscale before they downscalevbacj to 480i or standard def formerly considered to be average/standard def fwiw.. then reupscale back to 1080p etc fwiw if using a newer dvd player etc.. or even up to 4 or even 8k? etc.

    Makes sense that part of the passion for physical media collecting has died as passion for film has died. Look at the titles. Rows and rows of garbage mostly aimed at 13 year old brains, no originality, sequels up the wazoo! Maybe 1 in 20 movies worth watching, let alone owning.
