The War Against Entropy

  • Modern culture assumes a constant upward progression; that things just naturally get better and nicer and more technologically improved over time. The Second Law of Thermodynamics teaches the opposite; that order will descend into chaos and decay. So where does technological and cultural improvement come from? How do we get order out of chaos?

His response was to stare blankly at her and say “…okay.” He was rude and stand-offish to everyone and acted like he didn’t want to be there.

I’m a type 1 diabetic… today I went to my doctors appointment after putting it off for a while, and things were okay… but not as great as I had hoped. I gained weight and my blood sugar control wasn’t as good as I wanted to be… and it hurts knowing that these setbacks are a result of my own inaction and refusal to take responsibility for my own health. I have allowed the most important thing in my life to entropy… but Issac is correct here, even in nature there are second chances. This was exactly what I needed to hear right now. Growing strong and preserving that which preserves life itself takes work and energy, but in the end it’s always worth it. I’m going to correct my mistakes, and undo the entropy that I have allowed to set in while I still have the time, energy, and strength to do it so I can preserve my life and see to it that my legacy isn’t a graveyard full of boats.

It's kind of like fighting a battle, when you go in, you have no idea who will win. But you have to keep fighting your best even if it looks like your side is failing. Because God is in control of who wins the battle, and he is pleased with people who trust him to win the battle for them. People who are not cowards, but are there out of love, respect, and obedience toward their (godly) leaders. People who will give their lives to protect their loved ones, those under their care. Fight on brother.

Tons of videos out there about emergent behavior of structures, of "order", from many many particles obeying very simple rules. Imagine the structures that will form from far more complicated rules, rules such as highly coupled enormous systems of nonlinear partial differential equations. (PDEs) And, strictly, entropy has nothing to do with "order", as there does NOT EXIST some well-defined quantitative definition of order. Even check wikipedia: it defined entropy as as a measure of energy NOT available to do work. (Of course, entropy and energy have different unit, hence, why "as a measure of" is in there)

Order and chaos are concepts that are not even objectively defined.
Some people would argue raw nature is chaos and a civilized bustling city is order.
Other people would argue a city is chaotic, and nature is peaceful and in order.
The goalposts can be completely flipped based on opinion, and not even a moral one.
Saying things like gravity or physical properties of the universe exist in such a way that we and our world came to be is infinitely less likely compared to us and our world existing as they are *because* of universal properties that existed long before us.

I like that you’re taking back the phrase “doing the work” it’s been hijacked for a while by people who don’t know what work is and think it’s complaining about things you don’t understand.

@@josephkerking8638 the Science Council's definition of science is as follows, "Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence." It does not specify that things must be well understood and agreed upon to be scientific, it is a process not a conclusion.
Not only Christian, but Roman, Jewish, and Muslim (though the Muslim records are derivative of the other sources) records indicate that Jesus did live during the time period that the Bible claims He lived in. Records(non-Muslim ones) also show that He was crucified by the Romans on the orders of Pontius Pilate and that a large amount of people claim to have seen Him after His death. Many of these people continued to proclaim that He came back to life even as they were tortured and executed.
I have evidence that the "Fairy Tale" is a true story, how can I not be considered scientific?

Amen, sir. We are imperfect slivers of a mighty intellect no matter ones belief or faith. Mankind is burdened with the horrible knowledge we are capable of greatness and creation, but as to our individual lives its time ill-attended is limited.
God directs us to work hard, strive for order and honor Him by creating future generations.

Order does not come out of chaos, as demonstrated by the example. The example has an absolute order imposed upon it, called physics. Each particle within the system obeyed the rules of physics at all times, it only _appeared_ to be chaos, it was not. The mere fact there are highly regulated 'beads' in a hyper specific solution impugns the very premise there is chaos.
