The War Against Entropy

- Modern culture assumes a constant upward progression; that things just naturally get better and nicer and more technologically improved over time. The Second Law of Thermodynamics teaches the opposite; that order will descend into chaos and decay. So where does technological and cultural improvement come from? How do we get order out of chaos?

Man, I am so disappointed that I did not think of that joke. It is so good.

Isaac's videos always end up being worth the time.
Building boats is the long game for T.Rex Arms
Sadly Bill Nye is just a political scientist now.
Unlike scientists, comment shills, or youtubers....SCIENCE is apolitical. No matter who conducts the experiment, if the result is the same, that is science.
Great message, Isaac! Wasn't expecting anything like this, but a good reminder for all. Small, but continual improvements is what it takes to be better men and women!
Thanks for the motivation.
Post-credit scene is worth the watch. Good job guys
Fun fact. Scientists have learned A LOT more about the human body, especially genetics, over the last 30 years. Not too surprising that a 30 year old clip that massively over simplifies genetics got it wrong.
was not expecting a sermon, but I'm here for it
This was fantastic! Thanks Isaac
You Sir, have hit the nail on the head.
Didn’t have much interest in this channel at first but this recent stuff has really surprised me. Keep it up!
I appreciate good science!
When I saw the thumbnail i didn't know what to expect, but man I'm glad about the turn it took.
Keep spreading the word of God in every video!
And that last shot with the white bead floating up from the blue ones wad great!
I used love watching Bill Nye the Science Guy. But now he is a living example of "Entropy". Really great vid.
Bill nye is a woke idiot.
I love how Isaac completely tears down Bill Nye, shows what the real lesson is, and then uses Bill Nye as a very example of entropy and decay itself. 🥰😍 All in under 12 minutes. What a master class in teaching and communication.
I could have bought a fully assembled AR-15. But instead, I bought every small part so I would learn how to build one. From Scratch.
It's always nice not to have a paper trail for the enemy to follow.
@hendo337, unless you bought everything under the table their is always a paper trail. Posting comments on the net their is a trail.
Doing the Philip Luty method? Burma rebels method?
And now you have a Frankenstein rifle that works sometimes. Great!
You built it from small, manufactured parts. That design and effort and worth congratulating - you did not however build it from scratch which would be making each component from the raw materials.
Fun story, my fifth grade teacher went to meet Nye at a convention and took pictures with him. She thanked him for his work and said that her students loved his videos. His response was to stare blankly at her and say “…okay.” He was rude and stand-offish to everyone and acted like he didn’t want to be there.
It didn’t come as a surprise to me years later when people started figuring out what a douchebag Nye is.
My sister is airport security and met him once. Said the exact same thing. What a monumental jackass he was.
Lol, I just posted a similar comment. I really couldn't believe the level of asshatery. Everyone in the restaurant was just watching the thing play out like a train wreck.
"Saw Bill Nye at a fancy restaurant some 25+ years ago when he was a local celebrity in Seattle. He was soaking up the attention, holding court with his subj-- er, friends, I guess they were, and being a total dousche to the staff. Disappointing, but I did always appreciate the show. Then again, I was a kid.
Fast forward, and I saw the Netflix show "...Saves the World". Sounds *pretty* douchey, but that tracks from what I knew, so I gave it a shot anyway. Couldn't make it through an episode. If anyone wants to see what kind of man ego makes..."
I wasn't sure what kind of content to expect when I subbed to this channel, and this one caught me off guard. Terrific presentation, very well thought-out. Y'all make terrific holsters that make my EDC easier and more functional, but your core values are what really set you apart. Thank you for everything you've done with your company.
I’m a type 1 diabetic… today I went to my doctors appointment after putting it off for a while, and things were okay… but not as great as I had hoped. I gained weight and my blood sugar control wasn’t as good as I wanted to be… and it hurts knowing that these setbacks are a result of my own inaction and refusal to take responsibility for my own health. I have allowed the most important thing in my life to entropy… but Issac is correct here, even in nature there are second chances. This was exactly what I needed to hear right now. Growing strong and preserving that which preserves life itself takes work and energy, but in the end it’s always worth it. I’m going to correct my mistakes, and undo the entropy that I have allowed to set in while I still have the time, energy, and strength to do it so I can preserve my life and see to it that my legacy isn’t a graveyard full of boats.
Thank you Issac, and thank you T. Rex Arms.
You may not see this Isaac, but this has come as a weirdly good time for me, spiritually speaking. There's been a sitting and waiting for things to get better, and waiting on God to move. But I should be doing that work. Thanks brother. I appreciate you.
It's kind of like fighting a battle, when you go in, you have no idea who will win. But you have to keep fighting your best even if it looks like your side is failing. Because God is in control of who wins the battle, and he is pleased with people who trust him to win the battle for them. People who are not cowards, but are there out of love, respect, and obedience toward their (godly) leaders. People who will give their lives to protect their loved ones, those under their care. Fight on brother.
Tons of videos out there about emergent behavior of structures, of "order", from many many particles obeying very simple rules. Imagine the structures that will form from far more complicated rules, rules such as highly coupled enormous systems of nonlinear partial differential equations. (PDEs) And, strictly, entropy has nothing to do with "order", as there does NOT EXIST some well-defined quantitative definition of order. Even check wikipedia: it defined entropy as as a measure of energy NOT available to do work. (Of course, entropy and energy have different unit, hence, why "as a measure of" is in there)
Trex Labs put on their Vsauce jacket for this one
I'm of a slightly older cohort than you kids, I grew up with the rather irascible Mr Wizard, and was largely educated by the generation who's degrees were funded by the GI bill in the wake of WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. I never cared for Bill Nye, I thought his content was generally pretty basic, and also that he underloaded concepts a lot in order for his presentations to get his points across, often to a level where the presentation had little or nothing to do with his point. The density beads demo does a lot more to support your point than Nye's.
It was nice in early middle school, notably when it wasn’t political and meant a break from true classwork lol. That was really about it though.
Nye is a quack, just a TV presenter. His density beads example is laughably poor.
Mr. Wizard was great. I always looked forward to those episodes.

@@OspreyKnight "Don't tell a carpenter he couldn't have made his work because you don't recognize the tools he used."
Does this essentially boil down to "believe all claims, because there might be some tiny possibility they are true"? Like should we just never call someone on their BS?
@@libertyprime9307 You're trying to make the "No true scotsman fallacy".
Its one thing to call BS when you know some basics and fundamentals.
When you call BS because you are totally and often willfully ignorant of the fundamentals, you're a fuck who needs to learn before wasting everyone's time with your ignorance.
If you'll notice I wrote "because you don't recognize the tools he used"

I do not normally comment on videos. I just wanted to let you guys know that I really appreciate this video. There’s not many companies left that are willing to share and post thoughts like this. To many are afraid to share truth because it could hurt their bottom line. Makes me an even bigger supporter of T Rex Arms!
It is sad to see what Nye has devolved to as moral entropy takes it's toll.
Excellent storytelling. The biblical tie in at the end wasn't just the cherry on top, but the whole sundae. I find it interesting too that we are the boats - vessels decaying over time in the sun in the war against gravity. But internally, we are the tree growing out of the ruins of the boat - not just our offspring and the passing of skills and values to our next of kin, but as spiritual beings fighting against the decay of self interest. A resurrection of sorts.
Incredible content.

Magnificent. Superb point about the design required to create the floating bead "experiment." Superb point about the boats decaying once the craftsman was no longer maintaining them. Superb point about how even in an open system, the energy flowing in will only more quickly decay and degrade non-living things.

5:40 Moral Entropy… I have painfully learned that is the key problem with strict Libertarianism - eventually others liberty to decline morality and values leads to a decline of values in society and liberty of others.
Lol you want the state to enforce morals? Plenty of countries do that. My guess is you don't want to live in any of them though.
@@jlee8348 I think every country enforces morals, and any country that did not, would be not worth living in. "You shall not steal" is a moral that every country enforces, AFAIK. You get the idea, I trust.
@@jlee8348 All laws "legislate morality," as libertarians often put it. When you tell people they are not allowed to murder other people, that's legislating morality. The only questions are, whose morality and to what degree?
I'm an evangelical Christian and a constitutional conservative with libertarian leanings. I believe, as the Founders did, that government is always bad, but it's a necessary evil. Government should be as small and weak as possible while still being able to protect our God-given rights. It's a delicate balance that requires constant fine-tuning and eternal vigilance by a moral, educated, and well-armed populace.
Well said.
@@rickh9396 Not all the founders. In fact, some of them disagreed quite vehemently with each other over many things. For better or worse, we have ended up in a heavily urbanized, industrialized, capitalist society that is heavily weighted towards materialism and consumption. Not all of the founders wanted such a society. We could have taken an entirely different path and pursued an agrarian culture. Surely much of this modern world is inevitable, but the society around it, its culture, its structure and its values would have been very different.
Or, maybe not. Who knows. Regardless, the founding of this nation was not neat and tidy and foreordained or masterfully planned and implemented. The further we get from the founding, the more legendary those events are seeming to become.
Absolutely fantastic Isaac. Spot on
Negentropy is the word for things becoming more orderly. It takes constant work, but each action can be small. Walking from the kitchen to the garage to leave? Take the opportunity to empty the kitchen garbage or to carry that screwdriver you used from the kitchen counter back to the tool chest. Going to the office? Take the stairs and get in a little cardio on your way. Park at the back of the parking lot to get in extra steps. Listen to an audiobook on your drive. There are lots of ways to take small actions that add up over time to fight entropy. Great video. Thanks.
God bless you, Isaac. Thank you for making this video and sharing the convictions of your heart. And for pointing out the blatant lie being spouted at the very end...
A child understanding is simple and so explanations for a child are simple. Men should understand more than a child.
Which show is made for which audience? And what level of understanding do you have child?
Damn, didn’t expect Issac to look me in the eyes and call me out like that.
Amen Brother, such an excellent explanation
I really appreciate you guys making this video
I'm lucky enough to be on a career break and so had the time to meditate on the nature of 'work' while i was at a festival and concluded it was the battle against entropy. That we must continue to work just to maintain our health and body, to stay where we are and to stave off decay. That it didn't matter how rich you are, there is always infinite work to do.
You really rocked the boat with this one lol.
Who knew Bill would give a false reporting 🙄
Great video, great message, great human being... thank you.
Order and chaos are concepts that are not even objectively defined.
Some people would argue raw nature is chaos and a civilized bustling city is order.
Other people would argue a city is chaotic, and nature is peaceful and in order.
The goalposts can be completely flipped based on opinion, and not even a moral one.
Saying things like gravity or physical properties of the universe exist in such a way that we and our world came to be is infinitely less likely compared to us and our world existing as they are *because* of universal properties that existed long before us.
Legit the best comment here. It's so strange how Isaac is calling things "order" as though that's not a totally subjective claim.
You can frame anything as order or chaos in order for the conclusion you like, to follow from it.
It's always fun watching people telling me what I need to know, bless their hearts. 😊
Great video! I love watching Bill Nye and Ken Ham debate creation! It was cool seeing clips of them on a T-Rex video!
Great video! I teach 12 grade Apologetics at a Christian school and will be using this in class.
Amazing video, superbly well made and scripted!
Damn this shit is brilliant. Love that Bill Nye has become a bizzare psuedo scientist sophist trying to machiavelli his way into turning entropy into a pathology toward not asking questions, accepting the chaos, and assuming that all of these fundamental changes to our way of living are OK.
Such an interesting visual by Nye. It is so easily pointed out that it was ordered chaos to create chaos. So when is Trex Sails starting up? 😂
Is it just me or did bill nye seem like he was lying since his visual aide was anything but "surprising" and he seems to be biased?
I loved that tongue in cheek "LEFT to it's own devices". 😂

Gross
@@joelapplin88 Why?
@@markm5038 Because how can you be scientific when you believe a fairy tale?
@@josephkerking8638 the Science Council's definition of science is as follows, "Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence." It does not specify that things must be well understood and agreed upon to be scientific, it is a process not a conclusion.
Not only Christian, but Roman, Jewish, and Muslim (though the Muslim records are derivative of the other sources) records indicate that Jesus did live during the time period that the Bible claims He lived in. Records(non-Muslim ones) also show that He was crucified by the Romans on the orders of Pontius Pilate and that a large amount of people claim to have seen Him after His death. Many of these people continued to proclaim that He came back to life even as they were tortured and executed.
I have evidence that the "Fairy Tale" is a true story, how can I not be considered scientific?
@@josephkerking8638uh because you can’t even do science without God.

Very powerful video!
Your best video yet.
Awesome jab there at the end.
Wonderful explanation!
Order does not come out of chaos, as demonstrated by the example. The example has an absolute order imposed upon it, called physics. Each particle within the system obeyed the rules of physics at all times, it only _appeared_ to be chaos, it was not. The mere fact there are highly regulated 'beads' in a hyper specific solution impugns the very premise there is chaos.
