Wait a second, Deep Purple? What the fuck? How are they underrated? They are literally one the most successful rock bands all time. Think about it, the first song one learns on guitar is by them.
+7101998GreenDay Man, these top ten vids are bullshit! How is Deep Purple underrated? They're rock icons in an elite class that any jack ass would know. I'll never watch another one of these top ten vids again. Next they'll do top ten most underrated British bands....."And our #4 most underrated British band- The Beatles."
+7101998GreenDay I agree with you but maybe mojo's point is that in the US they are not given the respect that other bands like LZ and BS are given. For most clueless people here DP was a one hit wonder and never heard of In Rock, Fireball, Made In Japan, Burn, etc. Even the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame called them a one hit wonder. Go figure.
+Matthew Di Flumeri I'm not a Deep Purple fan but I'd have to say that all of Machine Head is a "one hit wonder". As a live band I may have two of their recordings. Some of their jams are just awful, imo, but the album Machine Head is a complete and essential classic rock album. This said they were much less talented than Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath simply due to the songwriting. Then too I haven't really explored the band because I haven't liked music beyond Machine Head. I had one greatest hits collection of theirs once which had some other songs that I liked a bit at the time but really Deep Purple doesn't do it for me. Zep and Sabbath do a whole lot more for me.
+jaxflfreebird
Folks, Deep Purple made 21 albums - a bit rich saying that they were a one hit wonder. Further, I can't believe that The Kinks and ZZ Top are seen as under-rated. Sheesh. Maybe The Kinks are not as well known in 2015 as they were in the 60s and 70s, but they were absolute pioneers of rock riffing and songwriting.
+jaxflfreebird Do you know what you are talking about? From 1968 to 76 Deep Purple were chart toppers, Hush, In Rock, Fireball, Machine head, Made in Japan, Burn and Who Do We Think We Are and their Perfect Strangers comeback in the 80's were huge.
To say DP is not as talented as BS and LZ is simply uninformed. Blackmore, Paice, Lord and Glover were all better musicians than their counter parts.
Given that this is WatchMojo's list, I was waiting for the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Nirvana.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
exactly
I waited the entire video for Queen, Metallica and Led Zeppelin. Lol.
The Doors...
And Led Zepplin
ZZ Top underrated???? lol
Yeah, ZZ top and CCR aren’t underrated (both great bands though).
Since when was CCR and ZZ Top considered underrated?
No mention of Kansas. Who can name a song other than carry on wayward son or dust in the wind? Never a bad song from them
Right?! I didn't know selling 50 million albums was "underrated" lol
@@tuckersears2281 ya,..........ummmmmmmm....since when were they overlooked and ignored??? They are both on the radio all the time!
Yup i feel offended
Idk
My band was so underrated nobody has ever heard of us.
Mine was so underrated I left after one day. . . .
I've sold well under a million albums...
@@jc.1191 I sold one copy of our album.....to my grandparents, after I made them buy it...
Mine was so underrated it only exists in my imagination
Lol. Nice thread.
CCR, Deep Purple, ZZ top, The Kinks underrated?
Nyx I agree these bands aren't underrated at all, just overlooked on occasion.
Nyx CCR is my favorite band ever, and I was honestly surprised that they were listed.
Nyx In United States!
Nyx I feel like Watchmojo doesn't have a 60's-70's classic rock radio station in town.
Got to admit, when you think of British Invasion, the kinks are the last band you think of.
This is like “underrated” bands for people who don’t really know much about music
correct
True
Lol. Right?
@@jacocharzukanamericanautho2422 dude, again, can your average dumbass on the street name ELO or Deep Purple as music bands? No. So yes, these bands are under rated.
Fact
This must have been made by a child whose parents sucked. Most of these bands were monstrously popular in the 70s, 80s & 90s, and have been highly regarded ever since.
Most of these bands are acclaimed as rock classics. ZZ Top and Deep Purple underrated? seriously?
And the Kinks under rated I don't think so. And I have ZZ Top tickets is October :)
The Kinks were underrated because there was a time period in America where they were banned from preforming there so their popularity in the USA did not grow as much as it could have. Deep Purple really only song that is well known, but even then people may not be able to name the band when Smoke on the Water comes on. ZZ Top is also not that well known except for the fact that they have crazy beards. Don't get me wrong, I like all these bands but just because you have heard of them doesnt mean everyone else has.
I agree with all that minus The Kinks... As I mentioned in a prior discussion, Deep Purple has Smoke on the Water...and even Lars Ulrich, apparently their biggest fan ever, couldn't squeeze more than another 5 songs into their induction speech. Cuz that's all they got.
They are in the U.S. I don't know a single person that had even heard of The Kinks until I played them an album...then they all went crazy for them. It was a grassroots effort
+Marc B I must be a bit older than you. The Kinks may not get the recognition they deserve today, but from the mid-60s to the mid-80s they were quite popular. I saw them live several times, and had all their albums on vinyl. Great band.
When you mention bands like CCR, Deep Purple, ELO and ZZ Top, it's obvious you don't know what you're talking about. Those bands are legends and huge commercial successes. Nobody I've ever met believes they are "underrated."
But are they still huge successes today and has their music stood the test of time? It's about bands that are underrated today, not in their heyday. I think out of these 4 bands, only Deep Purple has a massive following. Also, one has to take the scale of their body of work into account and that's why the Kinks are at number one. Their discography is absolutely massive. That's why I'm surprise Yes wasn't on the list.
Agreed.
@@BlunderCity I think your wrong when you say only deep DP has a massive following ,try buying a ticket to see Jeff/ELO or ZZ top. they wouldn't still be touring and filling venues 30+ years after they started without a massive following .Maybe they should change the title to "Ten bands millennial's havn't heard of"
This child who put this video out is clearly out to lunch. CCR, Deep Purple, ELO, and ZZ Top were huge in their heydays.
Steve Ryczek Except he’s not talking about ‘in their heyday’, he’s talking about now. In today’s music world dominated by pop and horribleness that barely passes for rock ‘n’ roll (Led Zeppelin imitators... anyone?). Being older I have loved and appreciated all the bands listed but I fully realize they will not immediately leap to mind for anybody 35 and younger into rock music. I’m betting a few of these bands cause younger rockers to go “who?“
Television, The Cars, Roxy Music, Talking Heads, Velvet Underground, Uriah Heep, Smokie, Scorpions, Jethro Tull, Thin Lizzy
Add the Yardbirds to that list.
@@tenn_ore Exactly.
Not to mention Yes.
You may want to consider a part 2. Blue Oyster Cult deserved better than an honorable mention. Here's a few more from my perspective: King Crimson, UFO, Uriah Heep, They Might Be Giants, Saxon, The Cult, Y&T, Legs Diamond, Diamond Head, & Smash Mouth all come to mind.
The vast majority of these bands are good. For Smash Mouth I only got a few select favorites. Walking On The Sun is one of them
Deep Purple have sold 150 million albums, which is more than Black Sabbath, so they're not really underrated.
@Dan oz No, because albums sales are nowhere near what they once were. Yes, there might be many more platforms with which to hear music now and so much easier to reach people online. Back in their halcyon days Purple were huge globally, only really second after Zeppelin. They still do well, their last three albums sold really well, reaching number one in numerous countries, with their most recent getting to number 3 here in the UK, not bad for a 52 year old band.
Most of these bands are hardly underrated
No fucking shit
Wilson Neto I would say Stone Roses qualify, but otherwise should get a different name. Tears for Fears, ZZTop? The Pixies?? Are you under a rock? Do multiple successful albums, chart success, fanbase? An underrated band would be deficient in those areas. Were it not for Blister in the Sun I can see VF
How about Tool (looking below note) Flaming Lips maybe. I don't get this list at all. Need to reread the dictionary definition of under rated
Melissa Jerry They're Canadian, cut em some slack lol
Prof. Oak The top all time 10 all time? Perhaps not. But these groups come to mind as underrated... The Smithereens, Concrete Blonde, P.I.L etc etc
Prof. Oak I'm surprised The Beatles weren't on it.
Watchmojo: “Underrated”
Inigo Montoya: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
I hope they didn't kill your father.
The wisdom of Inigo
INCONCIEVABLE!
The Association had so many great hits like Windy, Never My Love, Along Comes Mary and Cherish, yet how many people have ever heard of The Association?
I heard of 'em after reading the Grammy winners on Song of the Year and wondered how it beaten The Beatles' Hey Jude
They were like the Monkees. The Wrecking Crew session musicians performed on all their records.
One of the better 60s bands.
Nobody says "I have to hear Electric Light Orchestra" because everybody just calls them ELO.
So true 😂😂
Plus they are not a rock band.
Thodsr Sr yes they are
Thodsr Sr They are a rock band goddammit they were just very creative like the Beatles
I love ELO. I agree
Refers to David Coverdale as the "guy from Whitesnake" whilst simultaneously showing footage of Ian Gillan......ffs
Whitesnake is More Underrated than same Deep Purple
I always believed that the kinks were one of the great bands along with the Stones The who The Beatles led zep some kind of green card trouble I've always heard
FFS
i have to admit i did a double take then laughed...
WHY ANYONE MENTIONED KANSAS? They’re criminally underrated. I feel sad, just hear all of their songs and you will fall in love with that band as I did
The first six Kansas LPs were all masterpieces, and Leftoverture ? I consider it one of the most flawless recordings of all time..
Even theyer forgotten album Cultasaurous Erectus Black Blade is the best song on said album
@@kiplambert64 yep.. not underrated for us real Kansas fans..
Kansas is great, Carry On Wayward Son is a masterpiece
They are a really good example of an underrated band.
Deerhunter, Television, Wolfmother, Badfinger, The Yardbirds and Grand Funk Railroad are so underrated
Joy division
Wolfmother 100%
@@charlesdolling2407 they arent underrated
@@owen-cb1kwI think they are but everyone’s opinions are different.
The War on Drugs had three acclaimed albums but only few people heard of 'em. I'd suggest it too.
CCR underrated? Aren't they one of the best known 60's-70's bands
They were really memorable for about 5 years after they broke up. Than everyone forgot about them. They are also the band with the most number two hit songs, without ever having a number one hit song.
reeroo11 And you are full of it. They still get airtime on rock stations to this day.
In fact, "Run Through the Jungle" is playing as I type this.
They are as underrated as Messi or Ronaldo. It's absurd to call them underrated but it's watchmojo, the same guys who called Mirror's Edge the most underrated game of its generation despite selling 2.4 million copies.
Samuli Hynninen Many youngsters have never heard of the name, but probably would recognize some of their songs.
Samuli Hynninen Mojo clearly don't know them well. They think "Proud Mary" is called "Rollin on the river".
"Rollin' On A River?" Really, guys???
It's Proud Mary!!!!!
LOL, Also I'm sick of the political songs from the 60's. Naturally todays idiots gravitate towards those first.
@@ohheyfukyoo337 shut up.
Noticed that too lol.
really they got that wrong
Nancy Wilson of Heart is definitely an underrated guitarist.
In my opinion Lindsey Buckingham from fleetwood mac is the most underrated he doesnt get nearly enough credit
Mick Mars from Mötley Crüe
When it comes to the female variant, Hell yeah!

Yep, the band was great
@@mackdog3270 they were a good band, but Influential???
@@TheToledoTrumpton I have no idea if they were influential and don't care much. I didn't like their music though :)
Pixies, Alice in Chains, Dinasoaur Jr, Soundgarden, Mudhoney/Green River, Mother Love Bone, The Melvins, Red Kross, Love Battery, Fishbone, Living Color, Sharp Nine, Amebix, Voivod, Coroner, Bathory, Ministry, O.L.D, SYL, Devin Townsend, Post Cavalera's Sepultura, Sarcofago, Budgie, Thin Lizzy, Riot, Death SS, W.A.S.P, Hanoi Rocks, Diamond Head, Angra, Eraserheads, Cynic, Cro-Mags and Pushmonkey are some examples of underated rock bands.
Lee Torry i dont agree with Alice and soundgarden they are pretty well known but i will certainly agree with thin lizzy and Quiet Riot
Lee Torry
Alice in Chains is primarily an Alternative and Heavy Metal band, I'm a fan btw.
Soundgarden I guess are acceptable since they're considered to be both Metal and Rock.
Voivod is just a Metal band, they have little to no Rock in their music.
Coroner is Technical Thrash Metal. (yes definitively underrated, it's a one of a kind band)
Ministry is Industrial Metal.
SYL is Death and Thrash Metal with Industrial Influences.
Most of Devin Townsends solo work is Progressive Metal.
+Psytex Anonymous I think Voivod is more than a metal band, they are metals answer to prog rock, they influenced Cynic, Meshuggah, Tool, Mastodon, The Dilinger Escape Plan, Death (When they were more technical) and possibly more. Hell, some even say Voivod discovered the Djent guitar playing by accident!
Lee Torry Talking Heads dudde
Lee Torry The Tragically Hip.. seriously underrated.
When you don't know the bands, it doesn't mean that they are underrated. It's just you. You have a lack of references.
The Deep Purple singer featured is not David Coverdale, it's Ian Gillan.
and they said that the CCR song was rollin on a river 😂😂
@@shybinx_ he should of known it was proud mary lol
What an insult honestly.
TFF one of my favorite bands from my college days. Saw them live and was blown away. Roland Orzabal is a songwriting genius. Both guys have incredible voices.
In fact Creedence does not belongs to this list because were very famous.
Luis Cajas Ramirez I don't know who makes these lists for mojo, but lately they've been failing. You're extremely right about Credence. They were so famous, they were sued for plagiarizing John Fogarty.
Other way around. John Fogarty (former lead singer of CCR) was sued for sounding too much like CCR, whose catalogue was owned by another company.
They are not underrated in my house.
+Huw Leonard Yes, that was definitely a WTF? moment when John Fogarty was sued for sounding like....John Fogarty. LOL
No way they are underrated. Ridiculous.
Elo, clcr, deep purple, ZZ Top, the kinks underrated?!?! Do you know music at all?? These bands are in the rock and roll hall of fame.
Bryan, agree with you, ZZ Top, Deep Purple, The Kinks, Clcr, Soundgarde, in their own styles are not underrated. However, to be in the rock and roll hall of fame is not the big deal
MOJO you don't understand a dick!
They are all great bands known around the world, how about "Slade"
@@hugosalas3907 ~ Being in the RRHOF says that these musicians have already been acknowledged for their contributions to popular music. So yes, they have already been put up on that pedestal.
Weather or not it is deserved, that's for another day. But the original commentator is correct, they are hardly underrated...
Deep purple made one of the best rock songs ever
I don't know if you've heard of em but Led Zeppelin? They're pretty underrated
Nah fam, I haven’t herd of them. Have you heard of the Beatles? They are pretty underground
Yeah those song stealing pieces of shit.....ive hear of em
Don’t know what your talking about queen is SOOOOOOOO underrated
Nahhhh I've never heard of them, have you ever heard of Michael Jackson? Super unappreciated
What i have heard of all of the mentioned bands, i love Queen and The Beatles...
The Kinks are the most under appreciated band ever
The Cars
Absolutely they're amazing
Cos they’re shit
Facts
“The Kinks” are underrated when compared to The Beatles, The Who, and the Stones but I would say “The Animals” are way more underrated than “The Kinks”.
Deep Purple and ZZ Top? WTF?
AntonyPancake Again it's not underrated by other bands and musicians but the general public..There actually are many people who know Zeppelin but don't know anything about Deep Purple(apart from an iconic riff)..And Deep Purple is much more than Smoke on the Water
AntonyPancake I don't think they know what the term underrated means.
klsau Purple is one of the biggest bands of the 70's far from underrated.
Timelordwinterandsun But out of the rock world they are unknown to most people. Bands like Nirvana, Guns and Roses, Rolling Stones, etc... almost every person knows them even people that are not involved in rock music.
Ik right!? And CCR... I was this list is going to be shit. Was hoping to see robin trower
CCR underrated ??!! Please... And that song is called "Proud Mary"

Note: David Coverdale is not Ian Gillan.
True that, but sadder still, Ian Gillan is not Ian Gillan anymore.
They really needed to do some research before posting this cr*p. And tears for fears was not underrated, they're just poor.

King Crimson? If you are going to talk prog I would say Yes are more under rated these days.
You've GOT to be kidding. What you MEAN is "Underrated by Millennials." Those of us who are a bit older would NEVER consider The Kinks, CCR, Deep Purple, Tears for Fears, ZZ Top, Pixies, ELO, Soundgarden "underrated."
It disentangle have joy division
In all fairness, ELO kind of are.
@@toiletduck9257 ELO have sold millions bro
They are, actually. Deep Purple, for example, is one of those bands that are known just for two songs, despite being such an important band for the rock genre and music in general. Their members, specially those of the Mark II line up were really talented and in so many fucking tops aren't considered.
Styx is by far the most underrated. Actually maligned, yet
Maybe do, but their concerts were incredible! I got to see their "Kilroy Was Here" concert. It was like WOW! Dennis DeYoung was the best keyboard player in his era.
Deep Purple sold more than 100 million records WW and ZZ Top sold more than 25 million albums in the US alone. How is this amazing success making them underrated?
Roger Smith These bands are arguably and hugely talented but their fame can't be argued. Not the case for bands like The Replacements and Cocteau Twins. Then again, music isn't Watchmojo's forte.
Ronald Ho nothing is watchmojos forte...
Roger Smith I'm thinking Deep Purple was included on this list because for a lot of people, their career begins and ends with that riff from Smoke On The Water. I'm not saying I agree with their inclusion, but that's the only rationale I could think of.
+Roger Smith You can sell millions of records and still be underrated. I am in full agreement with the Kinks being number one. They are a ground breaking band and besides they've not sold as many records as you might think anyway. Their Gosling/Dalton era albums include some of the best songs ever written (Shangri-La, Everybody's in Showbiz and 20th Century Man amongst others) and sold very few copies.
They aren't in the rock n roll hall of fame even though they've been eligible for quite sometime
Deep Purple? ARE YOU FUCKING HIGH?!
+Colin MacKinnon Go look at some of the bullshit bands that got into the Rock N Roll Hall of fame before Deep Purple and you will understand why they are on this list. Took way way way way to long for Deep Purple to get in.Yes underrated !
They dnt understnd the music@@@@@
no serious musician gives a flying crap about Jan Weeener and RRHOF
The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is politics and has very little to do with how much they are valued by others in the business, the number of fans or the number of units sold. In other words, being in or out of the HoF has little value. IMO.
James Mohr
the "value" only lies in the fact that acts (if they're still touring) can use it as a PR point...like winning a Grammy....there's no validity to it like a sports HOF where most of the voters are ex-athletes or sports writers who actually have some knowledge to base their vote on.
These count down vids are great straight to my Spot ivy account to list new stuff or old stuff I had forgotten about.
Kinks and ELO, 2 of my favorites.
ikrr and they were commercially successful too
I think we have a different definition of the word underrated.....
Totally agree with you.

Three words. Blue Oyster Cult. Criminally under-appreciated
so True
You lost me at ZZ Top supposedly being underrated.
Lion_Turtle the Pixies too.
Yep, I had no idea a band with 50 million album sales could be underated.
Lion_Turtle these lists are just getting worse and worse
Titus Parker Pixies are extremely underrated, they are indirectly responsible of 90's alternative music entry into the mainstream
They lost me at Soundgarden. Sure, they aren't renowned as their peers of their genre/sub-genre but those guys achieved enough critical and commercial success to not be under the underrated category.
deep purple??? wtf?? one of the most important bands in rock history. blackmores rainbow (with dio) are underrated.
porcupine tree are underrated!
Which is probably the most famous live album ever ...
Why did the dickhead talking mention David Coverdale when talking about Deep Purple? The guy singing was Ian Gillan.... Don't believe in research do you guys?.
I know, catch the rainbow just 10/10... Perfecttion from Dio in his time away from Dio and Sabbath.
i think blind melon should be on here, it was super underrated

1)The Kinks
2)Deep Purple
3)Uriah Heep
4)Cheap Trick
5)Golding Earring
Every good rock band is still underrated, dont ever forget Rock n Roll!
Jeff Lynne and ELO is just musical talent personified!!! They have shown many times that that they can make a song of any genre and it will be magic!
Rolling on the river by CCR is actually called Proud Mary
i really couldn't believe that mistake. it's only one of the most famous rock songs of all time.
and CCR were together for over 10 years, just under different names (blue velvets, golliwogs, etc.)
brandonedge NO shit, anyone who doesn't know the songs from the best decade of pure rock classics in music history 1964-1975, and from 67-71 if they don't know every song by CCR they shouldn't be allowed to talk about music like they actually have a fucking clue.
...and I wouldn't put that track anywhere near the top of the list of the band's best. It was a Top 40 hit and probably made the band a ton of money [which John Fogerty doubtless found a way to blow!] but it isn't a CCR track I want to ever hear again. Tired of it.
Ya I face palmed when I saw that
Ten Years After and Budgie were really underrated
Yeah, Budgie was the first who came to my mind. But they're only underrated by the masses, not by their fans.
The cult... the most underrated
So true - they wrote some great albums
@@sslaughter1382 they started with a new wave/ dark album. Than a classic 70’s rock album and then with a pure hard rock album. Great style and band
Saw them in Aberdeen on the Sonic Temple 30th Anniversary tour-played the entire album.Utterly fantastic!Way better than I expected.
This is the most overrated Top 10 ever made.
ELO is underrated incredibly
Jethro Tull never gets any love. Great band with great live concerts, I saw many of them in the 70's
Jethro Tull won a grammy over Metallica!
My Grandma loves them, every time I listen to jethro tull it reminds me of her (I live in another country) and drinking sangria with my grandpa
Very true. First saw them on the Thick as a Brick tour in May of 72, then again in November of that year, and many many times since. Not sure if people know or care just how popular they were. Selling out the LA Forum 5 consecutive nights. Literally as big as anyone including Zeppelin, the Stones and Elton John for about 3 years there, between 72 and 75. And bigger than Pink Floyd, the Grateful Dead and Black Sabbath. It's all there in the world wide box office numbers. And winning that grammy which they probably could have taken a pass on. But that that is what they seem to be remembered for. People seemed to decide it was a heavy metal award when the title was hard rock/heavy metal. No one who has seen Jethro Tull, particularly in the early 70's but still the case in 87 when that grammy award is from would doubt that one of the colors in their incredibly wide pallet was hard rock. I daresay Cross Eyed Mary makes the grade. Or Farm on the Freeway or Jump Start off the grammy album.
Jethro Tull, who have sold 60 million albums, never get any love? Are you stoned?
Tull are one of the phenomenal bands that really knew how to play their instruments, though never, never a heavy metal band. Their arrangements and time signature changes are overwhelming, and as a prog rock band of the 70's, they are up their with Yes and ELP. Good choice John McCarthy.
The fact that I coincidentally heard "black hole sun" when I was 8 looking for black hole theories on CZcams make me proud of myself…
FINALLY, VIOLENT FEMMES GETTING SOME LONG OVERDUE RESPECT!!!
The only band I've seen more than once, five times actually, and I've NEVER been disappointed.
Milwaukee!
The Kinks are definitely the most underrated band of all time. Produced so many timeless classics. Also Ray Davies is a genius songwriter.
Isn’t it frustrating how many great fucking songs he wrote
They were pioneers for hard rock and metal in the future
they produced classics which is how you know they aren't underrated lmfao
Half of your list are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Underrated? It is surprising, you don't have the Beatles at number one.
Calling the Beatles "rock" is like calling Mortal Kombat "suitable for all ages" or calling us "metal." The Beatles couldn't even play their instruments!
couldn't play their instrumnets where do you get that stupid idea from gee whizz you tube intellegency.....
@@amylee9092 saying the Beatles is not a rock band is debatable, but then saying they dont play their instruments, is just ignorant
@@Kferler I said couldn't, not don't I studied music for years before I started Evanescence, so I think I'm a better judge of that then you.
@doubleheadergr I have a slow phone (a ZTE Z899VL) and my custom keyboard didn't detect one of my period presses (I literally had to look at the back of my phone for the serial number).
I'll throw 2 more underrated bands.
1. B52s
2. Cranberries
Both brilliant, both not given the credit they're entitled to.
Love that Frank Beard of ZZ Top doesn’t have a beard.
I liked that one.
Calling most of these bands underrated is absolutely ludicrous. Whoever created this list must be too young to have any real perspective on the last 35 years of music history.
Some bands that might have made the list (brain dump, so eclectic mix of eras and genres):
XTC
Arcangels
Temple of the Dog
Living Color
Bauhaus (often imitated, never matched)
The Cure
PIL
Wilco
The Red House Painters
Mazzy Star
The Smithereens
King Crimson
Steely Dan
Rage Against The Machine
Headley
The Fixx
Elbow
Filter
...
Rage against the machine? They really don't have many songs if you think about it, but like every song they have is played on the radio every single day! I mean they are pretty much one of the best hardcore bands of the 90s. Ask any 90s kid
+Stéphane Bergeron List needs more Fine Young Cannibals, but good list.
I wouldnt call King Crimson underated maybe to the newer generation but in the 70's they surely were not
Camel, ELP
more like 45 plus years. I'm like 62 now. bubble gum Music today.
WTF CCR IS ON THIS LIST?!1?!??! OBVIOUSLY WATCHMOJO DOESNT LIVE IN THE SOUTH.
+john karol You do realize they were from California.
Alberto Rios yes, but their songs where about the south.
Flingship373 basically
they're huge here in Cali too, I guess watchmojo just lives under a rock
Daniel Martinez i guess lol
I think they should've add Badfinger to the list. They were signed to Apple Records and made pretty good songs. Their career wasn't successful because of financial problems and bad management deals. Unfortunately, only one member is alive since two of them committed suicide and the other died in 2005. And they wrote Without You which became more recognizable because of Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey's version.
WatchMojo: no offence to the Beatles......
The Beatles: none taken!
I love the kinks
deep purple underrated??? didnt know that
Yeah, they were only admitted into the R&RHoF LAST FRICKIN' YEAR: a GLARING oversight for one of THE greatest bands of all time.
R&R HOF was a prejudice against Heavy Metal, and Brit/Europeans in general to wit; IRON MAIDEN, Judas Priest, Scorpions
Under rated would be Johnny Winter. Still not in the RRHOF when hip hop and Disco artists are. What a freaking travesty.
jacktheripped that was when they won the Grammy for best heavy metal album over Metallica. They were not the first inductees into the RR HOF.
i know. theyre should be on overrated list
This is the most clueless list ever done. Just wow.
Joe Smith obviously these clueless idiots have never heard of nick cave and the bad seeds
Joe Smith because it’s watchmojo
There's so much new music coming out all the time - you only have 24 hours a day and you've got to eat and sleep too!
@@batonbe1 or the Birthday Party for that matter
Joe Smith a lot of their rock and metal lists are quite clueless
Graduating from high school in the mid 70s, I'm not sure I'd consider Deep Purple or ZZ Top as being under-rated. Everyone I hung out with had at least one or two of their albums and saw them when they came to town. I think you could make the case for Credence being under-rated. I do totally agree with your #1 pick. The Kinks were among my favorites and I've always been amazed at how many people would say "The Kinks? Who are they?" but were familiar with Lola, You really got me, and All day and all through the night. Saw them around '78 after Low Budget came out and thought they were great. Dave Davies is one hell of a guitarist who dosen't get enough credit as well.
The most underatted band in the whole world is "Thunder"!
All round brilliance.....
😁😆
Why do I keep watching these watchmojo lists when I know I'll just be disappointed...
Thats what I'm thinking
Sameeeee
I've found new music with them. Someone needs to start a new list channel with longer lists!
Plus, there's the wonderful comments! 😁💜
Because you suck
ZZ Top underrated? Mojo you are OVERRATED.
superchitownhustler They are often overlooked when talking about great blues rock bands by their more famous British peers.
Maybe where you come from but here we never talk about "British Blues" bands because whatever "blues' Brits have originated here. It would be like talking about British Baseball. ZZ Top may have elements of the blues but it's more of a classic rock and roll group. There's a saying here that Country Music and Blues Music had a baby and they called it Rock and Roll. ZZ Top is hands down one of the best Rock and Roll bands ever. Stones are the only comparable British rock band as far as I'm concerned.@@bensagal-morris8072
superchitownhustler Really? Because Cream, John Mayall and the bluesbreakers, the Jeff Beck group (1968-1970), and the early Led Zeppelin definitely beg to differ on that one. Yes blues originated here, but the Brits refined it to the point that it had mainstream appeal to people. They are the reason people like me even found out who Robert Johnson, BB King, and all the rest even were. Clapton himself is considered an honorary blues man by people like Buddy Guy. He grew up not knowing who his mother was only to find out that who his parents were calling his sister was his mother, and he was raised by his grandparents. His mother’s whole family rejected him. Then, his love for Pattie Boyd was rejected after he released the awesome love poem album known as Layla. Then all of his friends like Hendrix and Duane Allman all died young leaving him with no peers. Then his little kid fell out of that window which inspired him to write tears in heaven. My point is, there are other ways than growing up in the Jim Crow south to write the blues. We all have had tragedy in our lives and we can harness that into our work. So us Americans may have invented it but there are definitely non-American blues artists.
In defense of Mojo - I like them most for La Grange.
It's all rock and roll to me.@@bensagal-morris8072
I couldn’t be more happy they mentioned blue oyster cult! If you are reading this please give them a listen. I Guarantee you will enjoy something they have to offer. There earlier stuff is more hard rock and there later stuff is more soft(but they don’t follow that to closely, they do what they want). I like it all but they have so many sounds. I could go on and on about all of there good songs but that would take to long, go give them a listen. Also they just released a new album this year, out of all of them if you’re into hard rock definitely listen to ‘the alchemist’ if you’re into more soft listen to ‘box in my head.
IMO Dire Straits are quite overlooked these days.
They underrated af
10 million listeners per month they are not underrated at all
@@jacocharzukanamericanautho2422 who would you put above them? Because telegraph Road and sultans of swing are definitely some of the best songs ever.
@@blissdeals1175 their songs are so good that loads of people listen to them, not knowing of their other amazing songs
I feel like many of the 80s successful bands are overlooked these days. Dire straits, Def leppard, motley crue even van halen to an extent
ZZ top, ELO, CCR, Deep purple and the Kinks are underated? (Breathes deapely) No... Ther all legends of the genre
I'm pretty sure the first riff anyone plays on a guitar is smoke on the water
I think Stairway to Heaven is the first song most beginner's learned, why else is it all but outlawed in Guitar Shops around the world?
No Kent, First Name Last is absolutely right.
Mine was Green Day's "Good Riddance".
Which CCR , With or without John Fogerty?
Which ELO ?
With or without Jeff Lynne?
Love the choice for #1! Thank you!
ZZ Top, Kinks, ELO underrated? You're too young kid.
Nat Napoletano they don't mean unpopular they mean underated
At least ELO was inducted into the R&RHoF
The Kinks are at least somewhat underrated. They deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as The Beatles, Beach Boys, the Who, and the Rolling Stones, yet they hardly ever are.
It’s not Rollin’ On The River. The song’s title is Proud Mary. Please get your facts straight before you make a bad list. I mean hell, CCR is in the RRHoF. 20+ commercial hits in their prime. Underated is an understatement for what they accomplished.
Doesn't that just piss you off that these idiots can't get their shit together to even get the songs titles correct. No excuse that CCR didn't even write Proud Mary.
@ Raymond, I hope you are joking. If so it is sadly not clear. If you aren't please stop posting about music.
Watch Mojo is a big joke
Pink floyd
HeyItsTim
q ?
If you do " Underated 2", I would like to see Missing Persons. In your face rock mixed with exceptional musicianship. Power with polish!
The original Big Star was only together ‘71-‘75 but was hugely influential and largely unrecognized in their own time.
David Coverdale was not in this video. That was Ian Gillan.
You're right - whoever put this together has zero awareness of the era. Forget needing video, one note of that voice was all anyone should need if they know the band. Also Christ on the original JC Superstar album...
Proving just how underrated Deep Purple is when "knowers" can't even get the members right on a list about how they deserve more recognition...
Gordon Reaps I noticed that too.
Deep purple is not underrated. People that listen to hard rock and metal know deep purples influence. And are well respected in the genre.
Yea both clips in that part was Gillan lol. Whoever made this is a dumbass
What about Badfinger?!?!?!?
And Rush!
+James Doolittle Not very familiar with the "top 10" are you? Fucking idiot.
And what is with The Turtles !?
James Doolittle You are a butt hurt little child aren't you?
+James Doolittle you could say that watchmojo gave them the bad finger.
Electric Boys had the hit "Lips in Hips" and two albums and you can barely find a "bad song" on either album! Same can be said of Shotgun Messiah.
Canned heat, the guess who, the Sonics, the animals, ten years after, traffic... so many great underrated bands
Tears for Fears you got right. But Jesus calling the Kinks, Deep Purple, ZZ Top and CCR underrated is just plain misinformed.
E.L.O. was amazing, and if it weren't for Jeff Lynne we wouldn't have had some of the best Tom Petty material, least of which being the Traveling Wilburys. So, while E.L.O. may not have been huge in their prime, their body of work today is undeniable and Jeff Lynne remains a power to be reckoned with in the recording studio.
Brett Cooper Still very underrated there only known for Mr Blue sky but they have other songs better then that
Only known for Mr. Blue Skye? You can't be serious.
Electric Light Orchestra is like 1/2 of my soul
Had the privellage of seeing ELO in concert. Definitely one of the most under rated bands. Jeff wanted an orchestra... he got one. Twice over. Hell, three times over.
ELO was huge in the late 70's and early 80's. Doing the very disco influenced LP Discovery (Disco" Very was the joke) is what killed them with hard core fans just as 1 song from 1979 did in the original KISS.
Thank you, finally someone understand how much the kinks are underrated
The CCR song you've posted as Rollin' On the River is actually titled 'Proud Mary'. Please look into changing it. Thank you.
“Rollin’ on a River” and “Telephone”? Seriously? Can you at the very least get the names of the songs right? It can’t be that hard
ikr
Exactly. Everybody knows at least two ELO/CCR songs.
Everybody know the title are "Proud Mary". Wow, sloppy work from a commercial channel. Maybe they haven't learned to google?
It’s Telephone Line
I couldn't believe my eyes. These people are just not experts in this.
You forgot Nazareth....
I've listened to almost all of these and I can't believe they never got proper recognition😳
I would add bonus ones to this list. Cream, REO Speedwagon, Steve Miller Band, Nazareth, and Heart.
Edit: Grand Funk Railroad, Player, Kansas, Jethro Tull.
The who isnt underrated
Nazareth were huge in Canada
Heart isn't underrated
