  • In this Curling Weight Judgment video, Matt explains the "Keep Away" drill.
Like the "3 Point PRESS" drill in my previous video, this drill puts the sweeper on the spot by having to decide early how far the thrown stone will go.
    Scoring:
1 point for sweeper keeping stone out of the house
1 point for thrower landing stone into the house
Matt was Competition Coach trained in Ontario and later Certified as a Competition Coach in Québec. He currently curls out of the Royal Montreal Curling Club and TMR Curling Club in Québec.

When I sweep, I try to start out even with the stone. As the deliverer pushes out, I walk with the stone. This gives me a pretty good feel for the weight. As the stone crosses the hog line, if I'm casually walking, I know the stone is light. If I have to run, the stone is heavy. A brisk walk or light trot is usually good for draw weight.
