Mel can you do a video for us curl gals who have gone naturally grey? With and without purple products. Went grey early and the struggle is real.
Yes, that's what I want to know too! I went to my natural gray about six years ago. I wash once a week and prefer to use a purple shampoo to keep my hair shiny and white. Then I question, when would I use a clarifying shampoo, etc. LOL
@@sprite65Don't use drugstore purple shampoo actually maint purple shampoos are harsh on the scalp and "clarifying" shampoos are also harsh on the scalp using both could real havoc on your scalp. My scalp is now excessively oily and dried out my hair. Use a professional/salon shampoo for majority of washes and shampoo twice the second time use less lather. You don't need to use alot of the shampoo so it can last. Check out the Blowout Professor there is a correct way to wash your hair to get out all the buildup and not damage hair. I found him during my continuous journey to fix my hair and scalp. Also using harsh shampoo on your scalp can cause excess sebum like I said oily scalp which can lead to a yeast infection of scalp. I unfortunately am trying to get rid of one I used to much harsh purple shampoo then to top it off went to bed with wet head. I used to have such healthy hair. This situation is maddening. I also never realized how much work is involved trying get my curls to do what they used to.
I don't know what Mel says... I have Grey,and it is white around my face I use blue from matrix once a month. Rest of time lus. My hair is not yellowing and shiny. I clarifying once in a while with twist.
This would be useful as hell. I'm 36 and I think little bits of Gray's are coming out already by 33 or 34 not that I mind lol. But the texture seems difficult for me😮

Honestly you helped me so much this year with finding my curls. I'm 13 and have fine 2c/ 3a curls and I have had a HUGE struggle finding product (i'm the only one in my family with long curly hair). My hair was always going wavy after a day or two after washing but now I can go 4-5 days with my hair curly! Love your videos and hope you keep posting!!!
My award goes out to you. I've tried this year to let my curls lose because of your videos. I still don't know how to know what kind of curls I have, but they are nice. They are just thinner than I'd like.
I have 3a curls that I’m growing from a pixie into a bob, and I’m currently so close to Mell’s length! I’m so excited to start playing with my hair again. This is my 2023 curly Unwrapped.
Most valuable player/product: aveda nutriplenish leave in. This always gives my hair the hydration I need and protects it from damage, and it’s super lightweight. I love it so much.
Most surprising: innersense I create definition foam. I didn’t think I was going to like this, because I usually don’t like foams, but baby does this have HOLD! And it’s lightweight and smells great.
Most disappointing: ecoslay orange marmalade gel. Almost no hold for me, my curls dropped after a couple hours, I was really disappointed.
Most expensive fave :my Dyson. Enough said.
Most affordable: treluxe
Best innovation : Starting to use hairspray on my hair. I use hard hold hairspray on my hair before I diffuse and flexible hold after I scrunch out the crunch. I’ve best using L’Oreal elnett hairsprays and it’s been such a game changer for the longevity of my set.
Most used products: aveda nutriplenish leave in and innersense I create definition foam. I have used them almost every washday for months.
Most used brand overall : innersense. They have nothing I’ve tried that I’ve ever even disliked. It’s expensive, but so so worth it.
Best brand: innersense

Merry Christmas everybody, I’m Deb and I’m really new to curly hair… it only showed up after I went bald due to chemo treatments a few years ago.
I’m very lucky that my hair has grown back quickly, so I now have a LOT of shoulder-blade length, fine 2B (i think) virgin hairs. I’m in my late 50’s so I also have “the twist” of hair changes as I age. Woohoo! I needed a good challenge. I’ve been trying many of Mell’s suggestions and here’s what is and isn’t working for me right now.
1. Most valuable product: AG thermal setting spray - I hate fly-aways and this spray lets you smooth those down & holds all day. Not sure this is how it’s intended to be used but you can even brush your hair through the next day and tie it back with continued great control the next day without reapply more spray… seems like magic!
2. Most surprising: Verb hair oil - I had this impression that hair oil would leave an oily mess on things but it doesn’t! The Verb hair oil makes my hair feel like silk.
3. Most disappointing: Amazon - Silk Bonnet Sleep Cap - a large, adjustable, satin lined sleep bonnet/cap. Either I have a super big melon or my impression of large is very different than the companies!
4. Most expensive fav’s: I don’t have these but I’m hoping to one day - the Dyson Airwrap, Microfiber PHC towel and Aveda night serum
5. Most affordable fav’s: Mark Anthony Hair & Scalp DETOX line AND Herbal Essences coconut milk and aloe hydrating hair mask
6. Most underrated: Shea Moisture manuka honey & yogurt hydrate and repair protein power treatment
7. Best innovation: the tangle teezer double sided comb… I love it… I just wish they made the handle with more grip. I find that my hands slip because of the product I’m trying to put into my hair
8. Most used product of the year: Verb shampoo and conditioner
9. Most used brand overall: Verb with AG a close second
10. Best brand: Dyson… I love their hair tools and also their other products (I have their hand vacuum and fan) everything they make is superb quality
I hope this helps someone out there. I definitely don’t have the right set up for my hair yet but I’m closer than I was when I was surprised with this new type of hair a few years ago!

My name is Sarah I have long hair with I bleieve 3a curls! This year my parents were able to get me the dyson diffuser and it has completly changed my life! I feel so much more confident in my own skin, if my hairs lookin fabulous i feel fabulous! I also really love the aveeda products! Hi Mel, my name is Deb, and I found your channel when my hair texture changed from straight to wavy/curly due to hormone changes from perimenopause in 2020. I was struggling with how to take care of this new hair texture and always looked like a frizzy sea hag. I don't really know how to categorize my curls but when I use the denman brush I get these pretty ringlets. My hair is a little shorter than Amanda's hair. I have learned so much from you on products which I never had to use before and how to dry my hair. My most underrated product is the microfiber towel by the perfect haircare. My most used product is alligator clips when I refresh my hair. I put hairspray on them and use them to hold my bangs up and to help the huge cowlick on the backside of my crown to properly dry in place. Thank you for all the tips I have learned fro you and Amanda. No more frizzy sea hag for me! 😂
Ugh! Those peri & menopause changes are torture. I'm in menopause now and I've been curly for 57 years but all those changes to my curls were very upsetting and I'm a hairdresser, too. Lol!

This was a great video! You chopped your hair just after I did - so all the short hair tips have been so appreciated! I totally agree that the Denman brush is a short curly hair girls perfect stying brush. And your microfiber towel is magic! My most underrated product is also super affordable - Cake Beauty Curl Friend Defining Cream. I have fine fairly tight curls that turn out so soft with this stuff. Bought on a fluke and love it! I have an old hairdryer that has a diffuser I bought separately that keeps falling off, how annoying😬 That Dyson looks amazing but pricey $$$

I've been using the verb ghost oil & Denman brush on your recommendation and love them both. Ya know I've never considered texture spray before watching your CZcams channel and quite honestly I don't know how I got this old without it, it's a total game changer but I haven't found the right one yet so I'm really looking forward to trying the living proof full dry and texture spray I recently purchased, hopefully this one will work for me. Omg yes the anti frizz line from curlsmith is definitely underrated! I live in Florida + I have high perosity hair and the finishing serum is amazing!
I have curls exactly like yours and it has been so helpful to have all the guidance that you have given over the years my hair would not look the way it does without you I’m so grateful that you made me love my hair! And if I had to choose a few of my favorite products and tools I would choose the aveda nutriplenish serum, the Eva nyc 10 in one hair mask and the olaplex 4c shampoo these always work for me and make my hair look amazing I have a little bit of an oily scalp which I why I also love the living proof dry shampoo to help extend my wash days! My favorite brand and most used products have to be from olaplex and aveda as well as Eva nyc because they are so affordable! My newest product that I have just started using and love is the curlsmith in shower style fixer I love the hold it gives to my hair! Thanks so much for your videos and all the tips and tricks from over the years that have helped me transform my hair!

I've been watching your videos for a long time, fellow Canadian! My hair is mostly 2C wave sometimes some 3A curl and my absolutely favorite thing this year has been the Olaplex 4C shampoo. I never in my life thought I would love a shampoo of all things, but I love this stuff. I actually invested in it after your video about what we should invest our money in and your suggestion was a good shampoo was a better investment than a conditioner... girl was right!!

I love this video I have a short bob with 2c/3a graying medium porosity curls one of my go to foams is the verb foam gel it’s awesome and my holy grail gel is ouidad strong hold (red) I also do love my Dyson dryer
I have issues with refreshing so I just ordered the Aveda serum (get it tomorrow) so cross your fingers it will help😁. I love the micro fiber towel I got all my sister-in-laws one for Christmas last year ( they loved them too).

Hi Mell & Amanda, I ❤️your videos & never miss a Texture Tuesday (now Thursday). I have fine 3a color-treated hair that has always been around shoulder length, but is now starting to get fairly long, at least for me 😜. I’m thinking I will be going back to a shorter bob really soon because yours is sooo cute. I ❤️ your awards show & I have tried almost every product you have ever suggested. This year my most used/most valuable/most expensive product has got to be my Dyson Supersonic. I saved lots of Ulta points for that baby. My most surprising product this year is definitely the Redken Acidic Bonding Treatment. I’ve tried all the major bond treatments out there with ok results, but this Redken one has worked amazingly for my hair. My most affordable product is my Tangle Teezer brush. It’s awesome, period. My most used brand is probably Verb. I ❤️ their Ghost line, & of course your Curl Foaming Gel. It’s probably my most used styling product 😁. I think my most underrated product is probably my mister bottle. I use it just about everyday. For my most disappointing product I guess I’d have to say the Colorwow Dreamcoat Spray. I think I used plenty of product, but it did not keep my hair from frizzing up at all. As for innovation, I haven’t really tried anything super different this year, so 🤷♀️. Overall, my best brands of the year would be Dyson & Redken. I am loving them both.
As I said before, I have tried almost every product you have suggested (for hair as well as face & body), & some of my faves are Paula’s Choice, Sol de Janeiro, & Farmacy. See ya next week

Hey, love your personality and your videos! I have fine, high porosity 2B waves. The waves seem to have just shown up around the time of perimenopause! I started using the Curlsmith air dry cream on your recommendation and love the way it makes my hair feel. I use Moroccan oil shine hairspray before diffusing and a high hold Paul Mitchell hairspray after. Excited to try some of your recommendations!
Love you with bangs. I just had my hairstylist sister cut my just past my shoulder length hair into a curly shag with bangs, although my bands are much finer than yours but still love it. I’ve been using Lus products and I personally love them. I have though changed to using your brush styling method and my hair is even better. Also purchased the Aveda overnight serum and love that too. Thanks for all your tips and tricks and being the informative and funny girl that you are! Teeth look beautiful!

I just want to thank you to gave me a guide to follow to learn how to embrace my curls, I went to the straight era and then I learnt, especially from you how to take care of my natural hair. My hair are bleached af and I have colorful hair, but because I learned how to introduce protein and balance them with moisture I'm still not bold😂
I don't really use so many product, my holy grail is Shea moisture and recently I added a Garnier line to add more protein
