I wasn't medically cleared for pointe and had to stop dancing, but my teacher gifted me a pair (that were not my size so I wouldn't be tempted to wear them) that I slept with for like 2 weeks. Lol. I loved them almost as much as my tap shoes when I was 4. Those, I slept with for months, and wore them everywhere.

Yeah. Not a dancer myself but soooo relatable still. Honestly, reminded me of the first time my piano teacher said, "alright, I think you're ready for pedal work." and gave me a song to learn that used one pedal, once... and I felt like some musical genius because of it. Or when I was playing the flute and the conductor handed me the high part for the first time... like, YES, I've arrived! LoL

I started ballet when I was 12 ½ and a year later my ballet teacher told me, I could get pointe shoes and I did. I've been on pointe for about 1½ years now and watching your videos really made me realize how many mistakes I made... I was literally told to break my pointe shoes with my hands and the went through one pair in about two years. I have to add that I had like ½ year break because of covid and only take classes 1 hour a week. When I got a new pair, I broke them with my hands again, that was what I was told to do. Thanks to you, I now no that I will not do that with my next pair. Also, great video💕
I would say you have to “crack” them to a degree, in order to make them comfortable enough to dance in. But the only way you’re ever going to build a strong AND flexible arch is by having less flexible shoes. They may not look the absolute best right away, but you need to train your feet to be stronger before you can make a more flexible shoe work for you AND look beautiful. Over-breaking your shoes will result in them becoming saggy on the sides, and ultimately you’re at higher risk of injury because your feet won’t be strong enough. The reason your shoes lasted so long is because your feet are not strong enough to actually work through them. Even when starting out, shoes aren’t supposed to last that long!
Hope this helps! Make sure to discuss with your doctor, and there’s no shame in asking another teacher for a second opinion, just to be on the safe side. Happy pointing!

Back in the 1967/8 I was studying ballet in London. We didn't have the money for pointe shoes, but a member of the company, who had become a family friend, gifted me a pair. I loved them (of course) and cared for them with great diligence. However - Tragedy struck! My dog found my points while I was away on holiday..... And chewed out the insides, ruining them completely. I was devastated. We could never afford to replace them.
I started learning ballet aged 4. I was late onto pointe - when I changed studios at age 13. When I got my first pointe shoes it was not biggie. I was just like, OK, so this is what ballet is supposed to feel like. I've seen it; now I feel it. I had really strong ankles - I could do the Giselle Act I variation no issues, for eg., as soon as I got on pointe. It mostly felt like, I'm doing everything I did on demi-pointe but now it feels better/right. It was years after that that I learned I actually had quite weak metatarsals, and my strong ankles had been making up for it!
I can't dance, don't dance.. but I stumbled across her channel and I was hooked! She's so cute!
fun fact, me and Mackenzie went to the same dance studio and preformed on the same stage. And yes, she is a really good dancer and a really nice person!

I was so blase when I got my first pointe shoes coz at that time I had no idea what pointe shoes were, Ballet to me then was just a hobby so dancing on pointes never even entered my mind. When my teacher was taking my foot measurements I was like "okay". I didn't even know what it was for. We didn't get to fit in the actual pointe shoes coz we didn't have physical shops here in my city. My teacher was going to another city and was going to purchase the pointes there. The first time I ever held a pointe shoe (mine) I was like "Huh??? Why is it so solid??". Then our teacher taught us how to sow the ribbons and stuff w/c is fine, I had no trouble with sewing anyway. Back then, silicone toe pads were unheard of in my country so I was one of the early few who dance en pointe using old stockings as cushions, then it evolved to Lamb's wool. The first time I did pointe shoe class I was like "what the?!? I didn't sign up for this!" 😂That's why every time I hear the younger generation (in ballet) say "I can't wait to get o my first pointe shoes, it'll be a blast for sure" I'd always say to myself "hah! You mean that torture device for feet" 😂 Sorry for the veeeery long comment by the way✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

I used to do ballet, stopped when I was 12 and was never with a big company. I broke my ankle a year and a half ago, and my doctor said I healed and regained full range of motion and flexibility faster than he’d ever seen, probably thanks to my past in dance. I wasn’t supposed to be able to put any weight on it at all for 3 months, but I was walking on it in 2, out of my boot in 3 and had full flexibility/range of motion as soon as they took my stitches out (same day I got the cast off and boot put on). My strength still isn’t the same though, even though I did months of physical therapy and still do daily exercises for my ankle, I still can’t stand on the ball of that one foot for very long without it hurting, can’t run very well (I look like an awkward penguin now), and can’t jump and land on it. Even if I could get back into dance, I’d probably never be able to be on pointe again.

Mackenzie is so funny and watching the reactions make her videos even better. I started pointe this year. I have been training in ballet specifically for only one year but I did a lot of technique beforehand. I was also approved by a physio and my dance teacher for pointe. I find it incredible how even though everybody's experience with pointe is different, it's still so relatable!

😮my mom traced my foot on a piece of paper, mailed it to Capezio in nyc and I waited weeks for my FIRST PAIR OF POINTE SHOES😯😍💕they were Pavlova's. 1963, I was 8yrs old. Did my first duet on pointe that spring to Liszt's consolation in d flat. I was in heaven. But, gosh those shoes were like rocks. I could barely roll through demi. ❤

I remember when I was on pointe I saw some girls be on pointe that perhaps should have waited longer this was back in the early 90s. I did not get on pointe immediately and I am grateful for it now. 👍 video and I appreciate how physical therapy was mention . When I was on pointe it was just teacher who decided there was no doctor clearance which I am also glad to see wish I had that when I was younger.

Mackenzie is actually how i found your channel 😁 ive followed her for a few years and shes really worked hard for her dance career and has come a long way on CZcams and with dancing. Her turns are so pretty!
getting fitted for point shoes reminds me of figure skates
we have different ones for different levels
every boot is harder than the last
some toe picks are lower than others
some blades are more rounded
some have different shapes
some skaters get them heat molded
some boots have higher heels
its not good to order them online
you should try them on first so that you know your size and what boot and blade is best for you
some skaters like a harder boot for their first skate and others like softer ones
and your first pair will be in the 100-200 range
my first skate was a Jackson Ultima Evolution with a Mark 4 blade
the boot was as hard as a rock
the blade was a bit more curvy and the toe pick was low
I didn't heat mold it

I was a mix between the overexcited one and the prodigy I was so overexcited I trained like a half year on demi pointe and I went onto pointe too xD but even though my feet werent the best I always had simply no pain at pointe xD and thats why I was the best

I have a student who studies with another teacher as well and has been with her since she was three. She just turned nine in November and this other teacher is putting her on pointe. My reactions were extreme anger so much that the hair on the back of my neck stood up and then I cried. 🤬🥵I have sent several articles to the parents explaining why this is not appropriate and how it can harm her physically. So far they have not responded. She won’t be on pointe in my classes. That’s for sure!

One thing to mention, your microphone sometimes peaks which makes the sound seem way too loud. Should be recorded at a lower sound and then leveled up during editing.

Hii! Im quite close to getting my pointe shoes I just need to fix my posture a bit but Im scared if I sew them wrong also question what age do most dancers get there pointe shoes?
I worked at 'The Dance Shoppe' in vegas once. And I refused to fit a person, one time. she didn't know what I meant when I asked her to tendu to second. she didn't even know what second position meant. oh, and she was eight years old.(I don't think we even had pointe shoes that small) her parents couldn't even keep their story strait when I asked about her teacher. total sketch.
the manager was pissed that i didn't make a sell, but i didn't care. I'd rather not be party to toe stunting or injuries. (i have seen what stunted toes look like btw, had a friend that got put en pointe too young.)
