End of an era... The opening line in the infamous John Danaher's social media post announcing the death of the Danaher Death Squad. Speculation is running WILD and I've gathered all the facts of what we know SO FAR (as of 25 Jul 21).

Here is Danaher's social media post with the details of the announcement:
"End of an era: It is with great sadness that I have to announce the break up of the squad as a unified training and competition team. A combination of factors revolving around disagreements in physical location of a future school, personality conflicts, conflicting values and an inevitable tension between the team brand and the growing individual brands of members were the main factors. I am immensely proud of the tremendous effect the squad had upon the development and direction of our beloved sport over the years. I am extremely confident that all the various team members have risen in competitive ability, teaching skill and independent creativity that they will be highly successful wherever they choose to go - whatever happens their legacy is assured and their future very bright indeed. As for the future, it is still uncertain. Most of us still get along very well. I expect some will still train together and we will work together in future projects in accordance with our team philosophy, but no longer as a single unified room. I believe the split will have the positive effect of creating a larger footprint for the team as they spread out and develop a wider influence. I always believed that the technical development of the team was best created by a tight, unified room, but at the end of the day human happiness outweighs medals and martial skill and it has become clear that some individual members would be happier in different locations. I would like to thank all the members of the squad for the tremendous effort and myriad sacrifices they made to build a team and legacy that will be remembered, in particular, Garry Tonon, Gordon Ryan, Craig Jones, Eddie Cummings, Nicky Ryan and Nick Rodriguez. I would also like to thank the many students who formed the room in which the squad developed and honed their skills; and thank you so much to all our faithful followers for your interest and support over the years - I hope and trust we can keep the project of refining our art going despite the changes - Thank you."

Danaher could kick all of them out, train a new set of monsters, and keep the brand name Danaher Death Squad if he wants to. Craig Jones, I could argue, is the only one there who can legitimately claim he was self made.

I agree, money is probably a leading factor. Now that we know Gary Tonen, Gordon, and Danaher are the members leaving, one could also assess that they are moving from sport jj to mma-focused training. This assessment is supported by Nicky staying with the other members to train sport jj (rather than following his brother).
If Gary is the only one leaving then they're not breaking up.

What I’ve heard is that when they referred to the Danaher Death Squad, they were apparently referring to Gordon Ryan, Garry Tonon, Eddie Cummings, and Nicky Ryan. Eddie has been gone for a while and now that tonon is gone as well I guess they feel it’s time to ditch the name out of respect or something

I agree that this split is mainly due related to business issues and I think it actually makes the best business sense if they split up and open 2 gyms so that more of them can get a bigger piece of the pie. They know that they are very popular right now and that there is a big enough demand not only for 2 gyms, but I believe they could even shoot for having affiliations in the future.

Personally I think it makes more sense for them to split up they can make more money they're all good enough to teach why have a one gym you can have 2. And if you are in Austin and enjoy jujitsu you're probably going to check out both the gyms

When Danaher had announced they were relocating to Puerto Rico I knew that eventually they will miss all the conveniences of daily life, networking and career opportunities, etc. If it was a temporary relocation just during Covid restrictions then that would have made much more sense since it would have been more like a vacation rather than a relocation.

The split was due to the fact that I tapped out all of the Danaher Death Squat...........for reals.....you can't have that many great fighters under the same building. Thats the law of Jiujitsu.
This would be more newsworthy if you had actually interviewed the team rather than making assumptions based on interviews other people have given them or fan postings on reddit.
This sounds similar to when Dillon Danis left Marcelo Garcia's. Things just broke up after that, and then a bunch of instructors left to open their own gym.
