Was given a plug of Salty Dog a few years ago by a dear friend and since then, it has become one of my go-to blends. I discovered by accident that it mixes very well with Orlik Golden Sliced (half and half).
Pretty funny, had me laughing. Thanks too for the info. Been wanting to try Salty Dog but in a pipe like you. Hard core chewing that I could imagine...
Thanks for the new video. I am a new follower of your channel and I find it really interesting. I'm used to looking at tobacco reviews in French but it's nice to discover new things. Sincerely, Clément (from Brussels).
Hi Mark! Happy New Year! Great location to smoke the Salty Dogs enjoyed it very much to hear you talking! Meerschaums I love too, best pipe for windy weather! Have a good time Grertings from the South West of Germany, Dominik👍✌🤝
Hallo lieber Mark! LG Angelo :-)
I was hoping the other day that you would soon make a new video. You’ve chosen a wonderfully eccentric location.🤣Salty Dogs…the sailor’s baccy. I love maritime history so the name & presentation is a winner with me, although being a weak old landlubber I find the strength dictates for me a small pipe. Great to see you Mark..wishing you a very happy 2023.
Great video and I was always curious about Salty Dogs! This beach reminds me of the Salton Sea in my area of Southern California. Art installations and a weird atmosphere. Best wishes for 2023 my friend!
Thanks for the video. Always enjoy and look forward to your videos. As a former student of history and a pipe smoker, your videos check off all the boxes. Thanks for all you do and please keep the great content coming.
Great video Mark! Thanks for the review - I've really been exploring the Navy style tobaccos of late, so it's interesting to hear about this one. Great location! :D
Mark, another great video. You went above and beyond to make this one on the beach of controversy. Salty Dogs is a good one very earthy, dark and dank Va/Per.
I love how the effort and research you put into your videos contrast with your effortless and humorous presenting style. 'Keep it up'......the great vids that is!
First time in my 55 years that I've been warned of erotic art! Lol Glad to see you again Mark. Hope you're well. God bless! 😃 And a good tobacco for me as a former US Marine!
Happy new year dear fellow! Great video - and most informative as ever! Salty dogs is a good tobacco for sure. I was in Munich last October and I'm currently enjoying Pfeifen Huber's 'Golden Flake'. Very good indeed. Best, Paul
Hi Mark! Thank you for a great video. Other day I was watching your tribute to John Matches860, and since his passing your channel became my favourite. I love each of them! Regards from South Africa
Happy New Year Mark, great to here from you, you looked cold, but the Salty Dog was interesting, I now need to try to find some plug tobacco and try it. Hard to do in this wasteland but.... John
Hi Mark! This tobacco may be something for me, I think. I will wait for your recommendations concerning the 'Easter tobaccos 2023' before I place my order. Thank you for your, once more, entertaining review and greatings to Bremen!
Hello Mark. You must be eligible for some kind of hazardous duty pay for CZcams presenters, I don't know. Great presentation. You went above and beyond for the YTPC. A bit of culture and art history along with some valuable information about a tobacco I have yet to try. Thank you for that. Stay well, my friend
Hi Mark, I love Dangast, so much art to explore. Two of my favorite artists, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Erich Heckel, worked there for a while and it was fun finding the subjects of the paintings. At least those who are not expelled anyway. I was there last September, in short trouseres, but with the same problem to light my pipe😄. I tried the Salty Dogs a few years ago, but we didn't become friends. The tobacco is not bad, but not my taste. Let's see when I'll be back in Dangast. I wish you all the best and see you soon. Andreas
I’m sure many have enjoyed the comforting shadow of that fat phallus on a hot day😂 Could’ve used a Zippo on that cold-windy day. The joy of Meerschaum, no worry of overheating/burn-outs, and the wind to keep the pipe going. Great video✌🏼👍🏼
Thanks for watching and kind words, my friend! Much appreciated! Yeah... I was actually using a zippo... but there's a limit.. even to that... lol Take care and be well! Mark
Love me some plug tobacco from time to time, and 'Salty Dogs' is a good one for sure👍 I still have some vacuum-sealed in my cellar from a few years ago. Gotta try how it is with some age on it.
Hello Mark! I really enjoyed this fantastic video! Very glad you reviewed this baccy, it's one of my favorites. Do you give it any drying time before smoking? All of the earthy, dark fruit and Kentucky baccys are all winners! I can imagine the sailors carrying a plug of this in their pockets out at sea. Great scenery at the coast. Too cold for a swim 😉😉 Thanks for providing the map link! Take care my brother! Have a Happy New Year 👍😎👊
A lovely seaside location, I can smell the sea air 😊 I always wanted to try Salty Dogs aromatic tobacco…but…its fairly high nic. Maybe I could stack it with some light nic burley like Prince Albert to tone down the nic 🤔 Those sculptures….fits…with…Salty Dogs 😄😄😉
I've always found this to be one of the easiest plugs to work with, slightly oiler than many other plugs, this seems to retain it freshness and workability better than many other plugs I smoke.
Good one! It entertained and informed me once again. Here is my list of favourite presenters: YTPC Legend #1) Matches860 YTPC Living Legend #2) Bremen Pipe Smoker If I make pipe smoking videos one day, it will have been inspired by you and Matches.
Your tripod is designed for light duty. Not for putting it into a starting hurricane, my friend. Thanks for the short review on this nice honest tobacco, which I always have in my smoking bag. See ya my friend!
I do enjoy this blend, I slice it extremely thin, rub it out and smoke it in a small bowled pipe. I find that it's rather mild in flavor, but tasty none the less. I don't think it's ",stuff it and puff it" put requires some attention to and teasing out the flavors that come through. Serene smokes, Gary
I’ve noticed many Europeans like tobaccos with more of a kick, there must be a history and reason for that alone. I prefer more of a lighter nicotine tobacco, yet I do enjoy a Smokey blend like Haunted Bookshop too - Just can’t do the strong stuff anymore at 64. Cheers 🥃 Mark great to see you again, stay well.
Thanks mark, happy new year! Very strange your smoking Dan tobacco! I Today I ordered some Dan tobacco from Ronny!! Devils holiday! Have you tried this one? Anyway another great video, take care my friend.
There are only two kinds of art. Good art and bad art. The salty dog looks very nice. Here in the US it runs $18 to $22. You have to be careful Mark you might get kissed by the sea! Blasted children! Another great one Mark!!
Hi Mark how are you? Wishing you a happy New Year and hopefully everything goes well for you. By the way did you ever find your original mershum pipe ? SL
Thanks for sharing Mark - Do they speak Frisian up there? I enjoy some of that tobacco occasionally, but the price is a bit steeper in the USA. I tend to slice it very thin and rub it into a shag. Very well behaved stuff (burns well) and a nice simple smoke.
A recent subscriber to your channel. Great informative videos. I now own 5 meerschaums thanks to you...I have a nice collection of Peterson's also. I sketch digital caricatures and did one of you. If you give a an email address to send it thru, I will be glad too😎🤗👍
Hi Mark! Love your videos. I’m a recent convert to meerschaum. I had tried lower quality meers prior and hadn’t been so impressed. Then I ended up with an unsmoked Baki in a pipe haul and OMG I was blown away. I have two Bakis now (can’t find any more-ideas?) and now I’m searching for who makes the best meers with nice quality hand made stems and nice open airways. I’m interested in classic shapes not fancy carving. I have an Altinay, a Tekin, and my next will be a Black Meerschaum. Any other ideas for who makes the best meerschaum pipes on the market now? Open to suggestions from anyone. Thanks!
Thank you so much for taking the time, my friend! Much appreciated! I think, you're already on track with those companies...only issue might be the stem... and there's only one solution, that I know of... get Janzen to make a stem for you... he also does international shipping... I normally have all my meers equipped with a custom built stem... those pipes are worth it... Take care and be well! Mark
phallus sculptures where made in ancient rome and even earlier in history. the D is part of human culture. very nice review as usual mark. thanks a lot for that 🙂👍 cheerio marco
Another witty and fun film. Well done, Mark. A commentator mentions that this location reminded them of the Salton Sea. The late Chris Marker made a short film there and you can see the similarities. czcams.com/video/Npn4zgMW25A/video.html
You might want to be careful your use of term "rub it out a bit" in front of that art. Rubbing one off or out could be a rather edgy term in "merican" English
Hi Mark 👋 I'd like to send you some pipe tobacco and cigars that AFAIK aren't available in Germany and are worth trying in my opinion. If you're interested, could we get in touch and discuss some details? I can't find any yours e-mail address or other way how to contact you. Thanks a lot!
“Speaking of rock hard…”
😂 that’s comedy gold.
It’s actually pretty impressive you manage to be so genuinely witty in a second language.
Was given a plug of Salty Dog a few years ago by a dear friend and since then, it has become one of my go-to blends. I discovered by accident that it mixes very well with Orlik Golden Sliced (half and half).
This video is hilarious 😂 . As always, really enjoy the history. Great video, Mark !!! Thanks.
Thanks Mark fascinating tobacco in a fascinating location. Well done 👍 ciao 👋 S.
Greetings from Louisiana, US. New piper here. I have been binge watching your videos. Would love to see more. Thank you.
Salty dogs is great! Amazing place to have a bowl!

I'll take a Bremen Pipe Smoker segment over The History Channel every time - excellent and humorous as always!

Great review for a great tobacco . Salty dogs is a wonderful Va/per like no other

Hello Mark! Great video--always love your stories! Say, what do you think of Sillem's tobaccos? And could you do a video on Vauen's Tradition No. 2??
I do enjoy this blend, I slice it extremely thin, rub it out and smoke it in a small bowled pipe. I find that it's rather mild in flavor, but tasty none the less. I don't think it's ",stuff it and puff it" put requires some attention to and teasing out the flavors that come through.

Now I want to break out a pouch of Salty Dogs. I've got a couple stashed away. Here at one of our local B and M's it's almost 32 dollars!

Hallo Mark,
Cabbies Mixture gerade bei Pfeifen Huber zu bekommen.
Look out for sharks, haha. Good video. I wonder what is more controversial, a phallus or a pipe?
Hi Mark, After 4 years at sea in the Pacific. This old salt is going to try some Salty Dogs. Thanks Mark.
