Homer Alvan Rodeheaver (October 4, 1880 December 18, 1955) was an American evangelist, music director, music publisher, composer of gospel songs, and pioneer in the recording of sacred music.
In 1913 Rodeheaver began recording for the Victor Talking Machine Company, a relationship that lasted for twenty years. He also recorded for Gennett, Columbia and for his own Rainbow Records label. Some of his records, such as "The Unclouded Day" and "The Great Judgement Morning," were so popular that they had to be rerecorded to keep up with demand. Other records featured Rodeheaver's recitations of sentimental poetry, such as Paul Laurence Dunbar's "When Malindy Sings" (1916).
Homer Rodeheaver was also the musical director for the evangelist Billy Sunday. Rodeheaver enjoyed and promoted lively new gospel songs among Sundays congregations. Rodeheaver was a natural showman who could warm his audience with jokes and direct choirs and congregations with his trombone.

Great to hear him. For Christians, this is our history to enjoy over 100 years later. Thank for the video!

Hell-doomed heathens have enjoyed it as well.

I really like this one. This gentleman had a very powerful voice admirably suited to this song.
Thank you for the bio. I now understand the reference to Billy Sunday in the song, "Chicago".
    Thank you for posting.

I was in his house at Winona Lake when I was a little girl- I was about 10 or so-he had died a year before I was born but his sister was still living in the home and she was so kind and gracious.

i have always loved listening to Rodeheaver--clear diction and so sincere in his delivery--i have many of his original 78s --The Great Judgement Morning is one of my favorites as well as the others mentioned below. To me it puts one right back in the day when all this was happening--God bless him and thank you for posting :)

What a delight & blessing to hear Mr. Rodeheaver singing on CZcams! I bought some 78rpm discs at an antique store this week & found his Victor recording of "Since Jesus Came into My Heart". Thanks for the posting & indepth bio.

Glad you like it Corrie. I have several of his recordings. They are easy to get because not too many people want these great old hymns. I guess I am just odd, my mom raised me on this music.

@pax41 ... What a great comment! Nothing odd about you. My brother and I sing together now and then, when we're asked, mostly old hymns. We describe ourselves as 'sentimental agnostics' (!) and sing them for their own sake...we were raised on this stuff in a Primitive Methodist setting here in Cornwall, UK ... although neither of us has a religious bone in our body we love this stuff too, it gave us our love of music.

you have an musical experience like I had at a state park 10 years ago, you would have no problem believing my brit friend......It was winter and I had the whole park to myself.....about 5 am I heard the angelic choir the old- timers talk about.....It went on for about ten minutes.....i wrote it all down the notes chords, whatever.....it was so real I can replay it in my head any old time I like to.......it was not stiff, and harsh like this pompous singer...it was real and natural the sound of a thousand angels, and chords that defy me to understand.....forget primitive methodists or what- not all that stuff is ancient, the Lord has a new breath coming soon- forget religion....God is bored with religion.

And this is eternal life: that they may know the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3 So those who gladly received his word were baptized; and on that day nearly three thousand souls were added. Acts 2:41 Look, watch and pray, for you do not know when the time will come.

Thanks for posting. I know this song from a much later version by the Rev. Gary Davis. It's really interesting to me the parallel gospel traditions black and white, and their connection to blues and jazz traditions.
There are many really neat hymns and I enjoy them for their own sake also.
