- Stars: William Tracy, Joe Sawyer, Noah Beery Jr.
Director: Fred Guiol
William Tracy stars as Dodo Doubleday, a feckless Army draftee blessed with a photographic memory. On the verge of being booted out of service because of his constant bumbling, Doubleday redeems himself by curing his commanding officer of a bad case of "mike fright" just before a network radio broadcast.
I'm a fan of Tracy from now on. Give us more and more.
Underrated movie that still holds up today 😂
It may had been cheesy, but it was very funny like a cartoon. Loved it, thanks for posting this movie.
As a Brit most Hollywood WWII films stick in my throat. However, this whilst stupid was genuinely funny.
GREAT Comedy!! 👍👍
Not a bad flick for its day, thanks for posting and sharing with us.
Noah Beery Jr. was also in the 1941 movie called Sargent York with Gary Cooper
The was the first of a series of "army comedies" co-starring Tracy and Sawyer that lasted through 1943 (when the Roach studio "commercially" shut down for the duration of World War II), was briefly revived in 1948, and finished with two more films in 1951 and '52.
They were called, Hal Roaches Streamliners. They were short films, each under 1 hr, designed as the second half of Double features shown in movie theaters. There were 8 of them. 5 during the war, and 3 after the war.

Hal Roach Jr. produced the last two of the series, after he became more active in his father's studio operations (especially in TV productions).
Superb the one word encompasses the movie
A comical look at the Army through Hal Roach with William Tracy leading the way with his photographic memory and his bumbling company of men. Good humor at the time. Joe S
Great movie. Some trivia, Jeannie played by Elyse Knox was the mother of Mark Harmon.
🎗God Bless our military of the past, present, future and families.Especially those who died for our freedom....the least any American can do is Stand proudly by our flag and Kneel at The Cross as God created All equally🌍

Try 1-27-20 but it's all the same :)
I really enjoyed film.It is very good film.
Loved it, thanks for uploading
I didn't know buglers still sounded "Officer's Call" in modern times. Lighthearted pre-war flicks like "Buck Private" and this were no longer being produced after the horrors of Pearl swept away our naive innocence. However this enjoyable little gem seems to be a children's show.
I never seen this one till now and it made me cry laughing my LMAOF !
I have heard the explanation about "tinker's dam" many times but I think the term is really tinker's "damn" (aka "curse" or "cuss") because tinkers were not only craftspeople but a class of Irish itinerants known for cursing people. Since they did it all the time and probably never carried out half their threats before leaving town, their curses were worthless.
character named "Skivic" was played by Dobie Gillis's dad Frank Faylen
Well, Dobie Gillis's dad was in the army and won the Good Conduct Medal ...
This was so entertaining and funny.
Incorrect description. Was never on the verge of being booted out of the army. His actions, although scorned by a sergeant and an officer, was seen to be genius by higher ranked officers.
I’m a fan now
That was one funny movie.
Must have needed a laugh in 1941. Can you imagine a world at war?
Who cares
@@TRUECRISTIANJESUSspoken like a complete idiot.
I guess everybody's heard the Boy Scouts got in trouble. Shame! I got hired at one of their offices and quit the first day. Here's why. I was given nothing to do but answer the phone and keep my butt in the chair. I asked for work to do. Told not to ask questions. I was severely told that reading on my break was BAD. No reading! No customers. They really frowned on reading. Kinda didn't seem like a thing like reading should be so darn wrong since it's kind of educational?
5 Nice bit of fun thanks
Precursor for " Get some In "?
Funny!
Terminal Lance, all the way!
This started off well, and had the potential to be really good. Unfortunately it didn't go very long before it went into idiot land, and that's where I bail out.
That's normally ok but when it's to do with a film about the army, that's desertion!
that platoon would have been PT'ed to death and a blanket party formed on that know it all
Spoken like a true dodo. The world needs smart people in it to help us idiots out. I’ve known people this crazy smart like the character Doubleday in my life and it was a pleasure to know them.
Wow, that Dodo sure was an elitist...."They are from the Kentucky mountains and are used to not wearing shoes".
ten film obrazuje wspaniale naszych wladcow dzisiaj (ale oryginal byl lepszy)
hil.arious but the army or any corp[ wazs never like this lol
