- I've organised toolboxes of every shape, size and brand, but this time, I decided I was going to make a toolbox to organise my tools with, in Shadow Foam! Our friends at Creality offered us this K1C 3D printer, and soon enough, I was able to figure out a complete novice's guide to 3D printing a toolbox! 15:34 The strip of foam with the adhesive - goes in the inside of the clear dome cover, on the left side - it's because the chain track that holes the filament bowden tube and connection wires - bumps into the dome and some people don't like the noise it makes, so this piece of foam silences it a little to a low thud. you can also remove the cover when printing PLA (I personally do not) or print a riser or a riser and chain riser combo unit that has a groove for the chain to keep moving out of hte top of the printer.
how do I know this? reddit lol, but Creality DOES tell you this, but it's on the 'full manual' (not the printed manual) that is on the USB drive, it's not the same as the manual online. Seems weird that the full manual is not available online and only on a thumbdrive that you might misplace, and that does not include any software for Mac users.

I'm currently 3D printing some speaker spikes in TPU to make my studio setup look a bit tidier. Not bad prints!
Bit of advice:
Temperature control is very important. You can have the exact same filament type (i.e. PLA) and size, but one by a different manufacturer will print differently at the same temp, so you need to figure that out. Even +/-5°C difference can make a huge difference in print quality. Also, I've found out black filament tends to absorb heat a lot better, so slightly lower temp for that vs white filament. Makes sense because darker colours absorb heat a lot faster than lighter colours.
There are some settings like "initial layer height", as well as how slow to print the first few layers for proper bed adhesion and quality of print. Usually the first few layers are done slower, but it's something you can likely tweak. Hell, you can probably tweak everything!
The slicer you choose also changes how the print turns out. I guess you're using the in-built one? I use something called "Ultimaker Cura". It's a great slicer with tonnes of options you can tweak to perfection for your specific setup.
If you ever want any advice on 3D printing or want to see how I print using my Ender 3, just pop down. I'll put the kettle on. :) Just down the road anyway!

Got My K1 a couple of weeks ago and love it. now I’ve seen that case might have to make it although think would need top foamed just to look proper.

The tool wall I posted on your FB group was 3D printed. A combination of internal support struts and an outer shell. The shells have a white filament for the first 3 layers to act as the diffuser then a colour change for the rest. Then the obligatory shadow foam inserts for the tools.

@@ShadowFoam about 120 hours of printing plus time to solder the leds up. The foam bit only took a couple of hours.

When I get my 1st 3D printer, Ill be printing:
Laptop feet, Mikrotik router black mounting case, 'C' cups to make slising draws under my desk for small items, tool holder for when i solder, single to dual screen mount for my existing single arm screen mount, tool box's for small tools.
I have 4 3D printers now and am hooked. Lol. They are amazing and have come such a long way in the last few years. My latest purchase was a k1 a few months ago. And i have moded all my printers as well. Once you get more comfortable with 3D printing and software you can then root your k1c and install full fluidd and unlock klipper software and get its full potential. You will see how much more control you can get once you root the printer. And that foam strip is for the lid. It goes on one side. If you watch the creality youtube unboxing video you will see what i mean and where it goes.

Well colour me interested. I want to do insert trays, so I can use my tools on the road but have two layers of tools, not just one. Printing cases and such would be awesome.
Great Video, I got in to 3D printing a few years back, I have printed all sorts of things from Phone holders to power tools battery holders, I use fusion 360 to create my designs. Enjoy your 3D printing. 😀

Stripe glued to the inside of top lid - left vertical side if look from front - It prevent damage of strike of cable chain on high speed printing.

My K1C is supposed to arrive tomorrow, though I doubt I will have any time during the week to really play with it (stupid adulting and work), though this toolbox may be one of my first prints, after the Benchy of course. Where'd you get the foam inserts?

First thing I’d be doing is printing a lid spacer never mind the tool box - Very happy with my K1 and waiting on the K1C-Max (bound to be later this year)to step up quality and material options

You should make a case for your cutting kit
The adhesive foam strip goes along the left side of the top lid. I keeps the cable chain from making noise against the lid.

you should use it to make custom cutting templates for cutting foam.
Would it not be easier to use your tools as stencil outlines?
So with this printer, would I be able to if I’d like purchase a toolbox a tool set empty out the tools and just copy the toolbox and then I could just return everything give me my money back and then just have the case fire free? Would that work

Can I print a flat and level bed plate for it, with itself, since it's Creality, and QA is non existent? It always needs mods anyway, it's a Creality.
The Benchy got is name because it's a benchmark. Easy to remember that way.

That’s packing foam, not as high quality as Shadow Foam
I think the rubber piece is for the door, to stop noise due to vibration.
Hi, does the K1c really need hyper filament or it can also use other creality filaments?
I don’t know as of yet, I’ve just used the filament it came with, hope to learn more as I use it!
Just wondering, cost of the printer aside. What did it cost in filament to print the whole box? I know nothing about 3d printing but I'm looking for a new toy 🙂
To be honest, we got the filament sent to us by Creality, but a spool will cost about 20 quid, so its 20 quid per colour used here
I'm a service engineer. I travel by air all the time and I'm constantly struggling with my travel tool case (pelican 1535). I'm curious how well this foam holds up with the constant tossing around of checked luggage and 40lbs worth of tools and equipment.
That is what Shadow Foam was made for! We’ve had customer use it to transport camera gear in flight cases through airport baggage and they’ve not had any issues!
Do you have a USA distributer for your Shadow Foam??

The K1C is a good printer, when Creality give it multi filament printing capability it will be great printer and a real challenger to the Bambu Labs X1Carbon.

why arent you using the built in camera?
The creality store does not have replacement nozzles for this printer. I asked on the store chat and they have no idea when or if they will be available. This is a deal breaker
Yes, and the nozzle is far away from quick swap. It’s fully screwed like K1. The proprietary nozzle is a real backstep.
Well you can't expect them to have replacement nozzles just yet, you can only preorder the printer itself and they won't ship them for another probably few weeks. It's unreasonable to want buy replacement nozzles for printer you don't even have yet... give them few weeks and everything will be in stock
@@maciejajewskiwould at least be nice to know pricing, sizes, and more details. For example, I'd likely want 0.6 nozzle
I'm torn. The K1C seems to fix a lot of problems that I've heard about from the K1, but the Bambu Labs is just the more solid and proven machine. For only $100 more, I'm thinking P1S.

Do it, don't waste your time with Creality. Just get the product they copy.

the settings that come with the model are all ways set a bit fast.... slow the print speed down a bit mate it take a bit longer but it will print better...

I have read too many complaints about units arriving broken and the customer not being able to contact customer support at Creality.
Can’t speak to that being my experience. It arrived promptly and reality have responded to us very promptly
But if you buy it from Matter Hackers, their support on the K1 is superb.
There is not link for them bolts in the description as far as i can see there is links to the 3D printer if you can send us a link to them

Maybe im wrong, but that sticky rubber looks like a spare door sealer in case of disassembly cuz its hiding screws in frame
The rubber is for the lid where the cable chain can touch the lid.

Got my K1C two weeks ago and after modest printing of simple toys and calibration models one of pulleys for lifting the bed got broken to pieces. Creality quality is not impressive, because I have no clue how a metal cast part can break because the main force is applied to it with a rubber belt. The rubber belt is more rigid than the metal part??
