FACET is a simulation tool for exploring advanced air traffic management concepts.
An efficient and effective air traffic management system is vital to the U.S. transportation infrastructure. Since 1978, when the airline industry was deregulated, the inflation adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) has increased by 62 percent. In this same time period, total output of scheduled passenger air transportation (as measured by Revenue Passenger Miles) has increased by 190 percent and total airfreight ton miles have increased by 289 percent. Since 1997, flight delays have skyrocketed - doubling in only four years. These trends are expected to continue. In 1998, airline delays in the U.S. cost industry and passengers $4.5 billion -- the equivalent of a 7 percent tax on every dollar collected by all the domestic airlines combined.

thumbs up to Air traffic controllers
👍
Wow!! Unreal - thanks for putting this together. Very interesting.
I would like to see one of North Korea. Just a black space and then a few missiles fire over the ocean, then black space...
Puro zeta wey
Insane. Just insane. I had no idea the sky was that congested. Especially over the eastern seaboard. It is very interesting to see the "holes" above Nellis out west. Makes me have a whole new appreciation of air traffic controllers. Brilliant!
Please note that this represents IFR aircraft only. If ALL aircraft were represented, it would be almost five times as much.
Holy crap, no wonder the weather is so vile.
I dont' now but it sure is amazing to see just how many planes are flying at the same time.
Good on all them pilots for not crashing into each other. 10+!
I would give most of the credit to the atc
I learned some new things today. Thank you!
Fun Fact of the Day: If you were to take every car manufactured to this date and put them in the airspace above the United States from ground level to 10,000ftMSL every car would be at least one mile apart from each other. Most commercial and corporate jets flyanywhere from 23,000 to 41,000ftMSL
holy shit, this is amazing! Great videos as usual Airboyd!
That is simply amazing! Looks like a bunch of flies. It's almost like we are just a speck of sand along the ocean.
Flights are controlled by those air control stations located at airports across the country, plus most [if not all] airplanes have radars to tell them if an airplane is near them so they can either go higher or lower, most of the time if an airplane is traveling say from Atlanta to New York, the airplane may be at a higher altitude, while a flight from Atlanta to Nashville, the airplane may be at a lower altitude..
EXCELLENT video, thanks for posting!!
I love the little racetrack patterns they make during bad weather, that is pretty neat.
That's one way of telling the enemies where your secrets are :p
Now you can see where the OFF NO FLY ZONES are as well, thanks dude. :)
+7071t6 No fly zones are not secret. They are published. If they don't publish them then you can't yell at a pilot if he violates it.
when i'm afraid to fly i watch this vid
VERY interesting video. Science is awsome, making us able to get this far
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport - Atlanta, GA [when you consider Passenger traffic + Cargo traffic + Landing/Takeoffs]
By Cargo Traffic only, its Memphis Intl Airport, TN.
So cool and amazing!
Interesting to see how the flights bypass storm clouds or squeeze thru between 2 storm clouds. 2:02
LOL. At 2:05 on the far right it looks like a plane spins around a few times and vanishes into the sea.
i saw one of the dots just go in a circle then dissapears completely...
Awesome 5 stars, very informative!
I just realized something. Of the hundreds of commercial flights I have been on, I cannot ever remember being held in a holding pattern. That is quite amazing. I hear people all the time tell me how long they circled waiting for permission to land. I suppose that is good luck.
I've been in a few, sometimes you hardly even notice unless you're paying attention because it can be very similar to when the airplane simply does a few turns to orient themselves with a runway. The only one I was in for longer than, say 10 minutes, was due to weather and we were holding for almost 30.
My guess is each airplane travel in different heights, and they have quite a lot of distant from each other. The scale factor is probably 1cm:1,000'.
Man, when he says "the skies are clear" it sure as hell don't look clear to me!
Absolutely amazing, looks like art.
Holy Smokes! SO much Aircraft over the East Coast
Hello. I think most of the flights fly through "the northern way", above Ireland, southern Greenland and pass the Canadian east coast. At least wheen I flew to NYC from London in 2009, it was like that.
And they want to blame cow patties for “global warming” 😂 good stuff!
the air traffic controllers are there to ensure the separation between the airplanes :)
So many air planes This is enough to drive me mad in one minute
Maybe we should invest in a interstate high speed train for transport.
YES dude. Now is the time. Cool running jet aircraft are expected in just ten years due to advances in battery, solar, lightweight airframes, frictionless motors, and radical micro technology. We need to do it in five. Jet traffic is absolutely destroying the planet from pole to pole.
...it would be really neat to see a national map of *hang glider* air traffic! Most of that would be concentrated around flying sites, aerotow fields, ridges, certain mountains, etc.
because unlike cars on a highway, aircraft can fly above or below each other. iirc, the distance is 1000ft vertical separation.
That's Unlimited Big Pollution............
@dukee155 probably not... if they disapear it may mean they are under radar coverage
Those are not planes, those are ants! ;D
POV is key.
Yep, like germs infesting an area of the body.
Much the same results too, see above comment.
hah immigrants
Most aircraft tend to arc northward when making flights form Europe to the U.S. Following the curvature of the planet.
Really puts the odds into perspective. I'll think of this next time I'm scared to fly.
OYG! the UFO traffic in and out of Area 51 must be classed as "VFR"?
LOL!
My exact comment, but you took the words out of my keyboard 1 year before I saw this video! ;)
One word: HEIGHT.
Is there a way of looking at this map horizontally? I mean the flying height that the planes go to.
What about the Bermuda Triangle? Is one a secret place there as well. Pretty cool animation.
Makes one wonder how much this contributes to greenhouse gases.
Flightradar24 is a great way to view air traffic. Oh, and is it just me or is there way more air traffic over europe?
You done so good work
I seen this type of video before it is pretty cool.
5.000 in the peak wow.. sick
@minored360 Yea, it is amazing, People don't realize just how many planes are in the sky. It really does make you realize how safe flying is.
why they used data of 2005, while we are in 2010??? If NASA is the source, it should not have been a problem getting data for atleast 2009...
thank you i really enjoyed
Pretty good info but i want to ask what is the busiest airport in the world??? Great video 5/5
Good grief - I often fly from DC to NY and vice versa during the day. I had no idea it gets *that* crowded on the east coast!
this is cool
Thanks to RVSM!
I just realize the more closer each airport the more crowded the planes and the more farther the airport the less crowded the planes
@cipher1x The name is actually 'comtrails'. Its origin is disputed but both are similar. It comes from comet trails as what a comet does in space. And the second claim is that the first passenger jet in service was the DeHavilland Comet, and it made these same trails and so the pilots nicknamed the trails, 'comet trails'. It has nothing to do with chemicals, and the trails are nothing more than water vapor, as jet engines are 20% burn and 80% compressed bypass air for thrust.
awesome vid!!!!
Bermuda Triangle?!? Or an aircraft carrier... lol
With the economy being so tight not much fuel is wasted unless for some reason the aircraft has to divert and land early than they have to dump most all leftover fuel to land on nearly empty tanks .
So if one takes off and has to return to unload a unruly passenger or for an emergency think of where all that fuel they just loaded has to go? over the local trailer park..
WA WA WA!! If you knew how hard it was to type with 1 arm and a patch over my left eye you would recant!
very cool!
what software do you use and is it alowed for the public to use it? I wanna search for some patterns
great job man love ur vids
Interesting video.
Where did you get this!?!?
Do the FedEx and CIA drug flights from Mexico get priority status on landings or due they have to go into a holding pattern just like other flights.
Pretty sure FedEx and other delivery planes like UPS don't get special treatment. Holding patterns are generally because they simply can't land at the moment because of weather, congested runways, wind shear or some other problem.
Europe is a little more north..
thanx!
@PPKDude852 Not all of these flights are civilian! You can see two clear tangles. There is one small flight path between the areas and some of the planes are military flights going to or over those areas.
Actually... this is a microscopic view of Paris Hilton's face after a night of partying.
is this including tinky 172's and cherokees?
I dont Know
At 2:05 there is a plane circling on the right hand side and vanishes... wtf 0_o
Lol there are no civilian aircraft allowed in the holes of the San Fransisco-Los Angeles- Salt Lake City Triangle, and yet you can still see aircraft flying over those areas.
social distancing cannot save us from what we're looking at.
how many days...u have to work in one week plz replyy sir
This is a good example of why the Next Generation Air Transportation System is proposed to replace the current system in a few years.
Not a minute too soon. These planes are what is causing the vile weather events worldwide.
I like how in the morning, Denver and Salt Lake City start letting off airplanes like ants
@2:04 a plane on the right circles into nothing over the atlantic... I hope they're ok!
2:07 bottom right coming from the corner ? pluf ?
nice
Pretty interesting
@killswitchdeath lol nice ! George Carlin ruled!!!
Varanasi jams
Holy! That is interesting
how do they not run into each other????
nice!!!
Damn ! you got me , Kicked my 1 good leg right out from under me.. I'll go jump out my basement window now..
Cool
Kapil Seth...who is he...
Thank god for ATC!!!
that is alot of planes.
Let me add the Two holes in Nevada and California is Nellis air force range and Area 51 hah/
this is freaking everyday
I want that program
@rehma6b0 Do a quick google search for "comtrails" and then do a google search for "contrails" and see what comes up for each. You may, or may not be a pilot and air traffic controller, but I have only heard them to be known as contrails....
