CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Kim (Winona Ryder) tells her granddaughter (Gina Gallagher) the story of Edward Scissorhands (Johnny Depp) and why she believes it snows every year.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands opens as an eccentric inventor (Vincent Price) lovingly assembles a synthetic youth named Edward (Johnny Depp). Edward has all the essential ingredients for today's standard body, with the exception of a pair of hands. For what is initially thought to be a temporary period, he is fitted with long, scissor-like extremities that, while able to trim a mean hedge, are hardly conducive to day-to-day life. When the kindly inventor dies, however, Edward is left lonely and cursed with some very heavy metal for hands. He is eventually taken in by Peg Boggs (Dianne Weist), an Avon lady who takes pity on him after seeing his bleak existence. Edward, in spite of his inherent ability to slay anyone he comes across, is a gentle soul whose only wish is to be loved. His impromptu family has, at best, a limited understanding of Edward, but he finds himself drawn to Peg's weary but sympathetic daughter, Kim (Winona Ryder), who is dating Jim (Anthony Michael Hall), the neighborhood bully. Meanwhile, Edward finds himself a local celebrity after the town realizes that his talents include creative hedge trimming and an unrivaled ability to cut hair. His so-called friends are proven fair-weather when Edward is accused of a crime, after which his only supporters are Peg and Kim.

The ending of this movie breaks my heart every damn time. To the point where it actually feels depressing. The idea that Edward spent all those years (and I guess the rest of his days) all alone in that castle without any friends or family, continuing to make his ice sculptures, as a way to let know Kim he's still there...it's just heartbreaking.
AS time goes on, in reality, someone or some organizations will come and take over the castle as well as Edward. At that time, he could be as good as products and an experiment to create more version of him!!
Where did he get the ice and snow from
@@brookeschwartz3772 Amazon prime 🤡
@@tommyvens605 lol oh
The part I felt for was when her granddaughter said, why don’t you go up there and visit him and she said, no, I’m an old woman now, I’d rather him remember me the way I was. That sucks, she could go up there to say hi and introduce Edward to her granddaughter. That part is sad.
"Some times you catch me dancing in it." That part made me cry because it shows the love she has for him
One of the best final lines of any movie
My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE line of any movie. So beautiful and so heartbreaking at the same time, especially paired with that music!
It's actually a line about growing old and looking back on your youth and beauty when it's gone.
True
Edward said sometimes he can see the ocean from his castle. I bet money he saw Kim dancing in the ice. So her avoiding him because she was old was pointless.
I'm I the only one who literally cried my eyes out in this part??
I did too, I was sobbing for like half an hour!
Ciaran Stewart
same...
Ciaran Stewart no You're not
No... 😭😭😭
No you are not the only one
Kim- "sometimes you can still catch me dancing in it"....right in the feels 😔
Julie Ruane hi you are a good actor Kim in Edward Scissorhands where is gym at anyway
Jim has been dead all these many years. You saw him plummet backwards out the mansion window 20 feet to his death, courtesy of Edward, when he(Jim) went too far by exclaiming,”Hey! What did I tell you! Stay away from her!” and some nerve he had in saying this, while he was attacking Kim at that(as well as Edward).
That hits me so hard in the feels. His ice sculpture of the woman dancing is his tribute to her ❤
That makes Kim almost like a ghost
One of the most perfect movie endings. Not too happy, but not too sad either.
1717Dave At last somebody agrees with me
Same
One thing for sure is that, HOW THE HELL CAN EDWARD CARVED A BLOCK OF ICE BY HIS SCISSORHANDS??!!
Nah its pretty sad bro
I remember thinking it was heartbreaking when I was younger. A lot more beautiful when you grow up and experience a bit of life though. What may seem like a tragic end for their love is actually one of the more beautiful endings in cinema.
What makes me sad is, even in a lifetime of isolation, Edward is the better person among everyone else who is down there living normal lives. Yet he never gets to be free and happy 😢
Its because he's half robot for the most part. No human being can survive that much years in isolation as we are biologically wired to be social. There's a reason why many countries have solitary confinement as punishment. Because its not only psychologically damaging but physically as well.
No it's because it's his job...to protect his family
I guess you don't see it do you? He is free, and he is happy. Peace, Nature and creation is all some people need.
@@Ghostrider-ul7xn He's not a robot

Damn, I hate Danny Elfman for making a piece of music that makes me weep every time I hear it.
😭
Luis Díaz maybe you just hate yourself
Damn, I hate Danny Elfman for basically putting no effort in justice league
Lol
@@JebusGabriel it's been a while, but no, I don't hate myself. And I don't really hate Danny Elfman. I was being ironic.
Everything about this scene is so sad. It makes you feel like everything has changed. All the neighbors are gone, obviously Kim’s mother and father are gone and she’s lived her life till her old age getting married and having kids. You can tell she’s never stopped looking out that window and he probably still looks down at her. The music makes the scene 10 times more beautiful and how she wants him to remember her as young beautiful girl.
Hell yeah dude. I always felt it has a lonely, existential feel to it. The people went from an angry mob to long gone and dirt in the ground.
Anthony Greico dude I felt so soft for being a guy saying that but it just had to be said haha
Respect to the legend Kobe that one of the powerful story of my child hood
Agree
Always felt this about Hook, the fact Peter left Wendy & married her granddaughter… and forgot he was Peter & how I love he was with Wendy but they never shared a “true kiss” Like…my god, that depressed me. lol
Gives me chills every time. Knowing he loved her and is still loving her many years later. The image of her dancing in the snow. Such a bittersweet, amazing film. And the soundtrack....it's beyond words.
Edward walking in his garden, cutting some extra leaves from the squirrel-plant, and walking again is the cutest thing ever...
@I fought the law That's really a sad story
Tim Burton's greatest and most personal film - an ode to his childhood and a love poem and tribute to all others artists and individuals who have ever been treated or felt different. Moreover, as Gary Mulholland highlights in his book 'Stranded At The Drive-In' and as this beautiful ending shows, it's also about 'the sad inevitability of ageing (wherein) the film's afterburn isn't Edward eternally alone in his tower, but Kim Boggs, living and soon dying, with the memory of a perfect lover she could never keep, too ashamed of her appearance now to contemplate seeing him again.' Perfect, perfect film!
Samuel Cox what to name this feeling 😢😢😔😊 I'm so happy yet so sad
I feel different all the time, and I relate with this film so much... I haven’t seen this movie in so long, and I just watched it recently.... I don’t remember the last time I cried to a Tim Burton movie
It’s like a representation of Aspergers Syndrome.
She was beautiful but now she’s ashamed of how she looks, just like how Edward did

edward never aged. kim doesn't want him to see her after many many years. he will remember her from before, yet he still looks at her house from where he stays :)
Yeah i realized that too, he is immortal :D
@@supergirl109 that would make no sense
When did she says she could have seen him? Or why she didnt?
@@CreativelyKia The senior citizen Kim said that she doesn't want Edward to see how old she got and how old she looks saying that she would rather Edward remember her in her younger years as a teenager even though Kim's granddaughter said that she could go visit Edward anytime she wants.
@@Wolfmanluv That is correct since he is only artwork. The only thing that if Edward can't die of old age, I wonder if he can die of a disease or cancer like getting leukemia since that's a blood clot and Edward does have blood in him since he got cut a lot and bled during the movie.
The first time I ever saw this movie I didn't want it to end
+alex drew Yes, it was a great movie. I would have loved if they made a second film called "Edward Scissorhands 2: Edward The Artist" where maybe he got invited again by Kim (even though she said in her old age that she didn't want him to see her old and since she was the only one who knew that he didn't die) down from the mansion to get a job as an artist making a show from different art sculptures where at the same time, all the neighbors (especially Esmeralda) said with surprise to Edward "we thought you were dead" along with Joyce apologizing to Edward for framing him since before the neighbors left the mansion, Joyce had the sorry look on her face before leaving realizing that she was the one who caused the neighborhood to hate Edward. Then somehow at the end of the movie, a different inventor came and removed Edwards scissorhands and gave him human hands and he moved out of the mansion and moved to the suburbs and lived there happily forever after.
I'm not so sure about that
alex drew I guess I can agree. I'm probably thinking too much about it. I just thought how nice it would have been if Kim got to see Edward again since the old Kim said that she never saw Edward again after her ex-boyfriend Jim died and chooses not to visit him because of her not wanting to see how old she got. If they made a second film, it would be a good film I'm sure.
Well, they did a comic sequel to this film.
I watched it again recently and realized that I wish it was three hours long so I could enjoy it for longer. The worst part about this movie is that it ends!
This scene breaks my heart every time.
Same...
...and I start welling up.
+XenaAmazon of course the same for me..
And me,too; note my two other comments, just now-as I also said,it's become a tradition for me to watch this every Christmas,on the evening of December 25. Perfect way to cap off the year,in my opinion, watching such a moving, beautiful fairy tale.
I always cry.....the music,the storyline...soo sad:'((
“Sometimes you can still catch me dancing in it”, one of the greatest final lines of any film.
It brings tears to my eyes knowing peg thinks Edward is dead and she’ll never get to see him again. Her last words to Edward were “come home”
I would like to think Kim did tell Peg at some point before Peg died that Edward is alive and is there in the castle but they cannot go to it due to them giving away that Edward is aliveZ
@@thebakalord At first I thought the grandma was Peg. It took me a while to figure it’s Kim
@@manuelorozco7760 Naw both the grandma and Kim are played by Winona Ryder. The only question is was this a real story or just a fairy tale?
@@spaceace4387 A Fairy tale inspired by Burtons upbringing
@@manuelorozco7760 I mean within the context of the film, was Kim telling a real story. I wasn’t referring to Winona, I don’t think Winona Ryder really fell in love with a man with scissors for hands.
Danny Elfman's truly magnificent score makes me cry every time.
One thing still bothers me about this film is that Edward was never Vindicated for the neighborhoods hate on him. Did Kim ever tell anyone that she and Jim broke into Jim's House and that they talked him into go with them, leaving him behind to take the blame??? Do Joyce ever tell anyone or confessed that she lied about Edward raping her and only lied out of pure spite, because he rejected her seduction??? Maybe he was happier up there in his Mansion by himself with no one to bother him, but still, crimes shouldn't go unpunished.
Yeah. Jim has paid for what he did, but Joyce and Esmeralda have got away.
Theshark15z nah, they aren't in the end 🤔😈
That is part of the tragedy
@@lpallad1 Not really as they'll have to live with the guilty for what they did to him as they believes he's dead
@@tizyman7120 I do not believe. Esmeralda must have been happy because she thought she had caused the death of a demon. For the others, I don't think they would have been so unhappy, because if they had known he was alive they would have hurt him.
Winona's line delivery and Danny Elfman's score made magic together. Total goosebumps and chills every time
After all these years still one of my absolute favorite movie endings. I can honestly say that during Christmas time watching this movie brings warmth into my heart.
Ik right
30 years later and still a masterpiece!
Edward was such a gentle soul that meant no harm to anybody. His blessing and his curse was his scissor hands. He was a gifted artist and almost everybody tried to use him and take advantage of his talents. He was also too naive and trusting, but that wasn’t his fault, he didn’t know any better. Isolated from humanity in the mansion, he didn’t understand betrayal. That’s the most tragic thing about this movie to me. It really says something about human nature and how when it boils down to it, people are self centered and cruel. Edward was a innocent creation who only wanted friends, and they at first embraced but but then turned around and cast him out, just like the Frankenstein myth. Similarly in the original Mary Shelley Frankenstein novel, the monster didn’t want to do evil at first, he only wanted friendship, and was driven to madness and murder out of sheer loneliness. I see lots of parallels of Frankenstein in this film, even the snow at end is perhaps reminiscent of the fact Frankenstein ended in the North Pole, well, the book anyway.
I just rewatched this masterpiece for the hundredth time and for some reason it made me super emotional, I just think it's so sad how poor Edward lived alone all his life in that big castle, with nothing but his memories and his undying love for Kim. Part of me wishes she would've visited him.
Uh, so beautiful it hurts, especially when you see Edward reliving the best days of his life through his sculptures. Definition of a tortured artist right there.
Not tortured, he’s just reflecting on a certain time in his life. He’s clearly able to move on and adapt to life back in the castle.
Not tortured at all! He's happy. He's grateful that he got to experience life in the outside world, even briefly. He chooses to focus on the things that bring him joy.
Tim burton and Johnny depp are the best movie duos ever in movies cinema.
Even though he can never be with the woman he loves, she's forever in his heart.
This hit me right in the feels when she said you can still catch me dancing in it
Man I cryed so hard
And he in her heart
She is HIS heart
for anyone saying “it’s cool and all but how did he get the ice” the whole point of Edward Scissorhands is that it’s this beautifully surreal fairytale dream where you don’t need explanations and complicated plot points, the same with the hedges, don’t think about it too seriously, it’s more about “what it is” and “why it is” than “how it is”. Same with Edward himself, is he a robot? how is he alive? does he need food and drink? does he have organs? it’s not supposed to matter, all we need to know about Edward is that he was made in the castle, is unfinished and is an outsider. Look at the film like a dream you have. Most of the time in dreams so many things don’t make sense but you only realise after the dream ends, but when you’re in the dream that stuff doesn’t matter, it still happened and you thought it was real because you’re in a dream, not in reality.
Finally someone get it.
His heart is a cookie.
Aka making excuses for bad writing.
@@9razzler9 Do you think if they wasted half the movie explaining how he functioned and where he got the ice, it would’ve had the same emotional impact?

"You see, before he came down here,it NEVER snowed, and then afterwards,it ALWAYS did! So really,if he weren't up there now, it probably wouldn't be snowing. And just the perfect way to end such a marvelous fairy tale-like movie,as the next and very last thing we see,as the movie ends,is Edward is indeed still up there, after like fifty years or so, "sculpturing"away in pure everlasting bliss.

I don’t think I can watch or hear anything to do with this movie without getting really emotional now. I love this movie with all my heart.
A fairytale about human stupidity, evil, and most of all about the beauty of a pure soul, hidden between all the pain.
This is one of my favorite movies growing up. This ending always makes me sad and depressed, I just wanted Edward to have a happy ending. He was a far better person than the people who lived in the neighborhood, they just wanted to exploit him where all he wanted is to be part of the community and explore this new world he is in. Kim could of gone back once everything died down, those people were so in to themselves they probably wouldn't have noticed.
The ending why I couldn’t give in to liking the movie overall as a kid. And I haven’t sat down to watch the whole thing in years. But during my younger days, I always preferred happy endings
This is about a man who refuses to forget a woman he loves and about a woman who loved him. His love for her was greater than her love for him
Whenever I watch this movie I cry because he is just so innocent and he’s adorable and helpless. It just makes me so sad to think that he’s going to be alone until he meets his demise. I just wanna give him a huge hug
If I lived in that town I would pop over to see Edward anytime
An incredible ending for a drama sc-fi film! It''s amazing that even though the world didn't understand him and treated him like an outcast later when he was framed by kim;s wicked boyfriend,he still brought them a special gift snow when making those ice sculptures.
Its not sci fi its fantasy and drama
To me, it doesn’t matter what genre it is. Its one of my favorite movies, and that’s all I need to know.
One of my favorite movie endings of all time.
EDWARD DESERVES A HAPPY ROMANTIC ENDING EVEN MORE THAN JACK. he was so sensitive and sweet he has the best personality EVER 😭💘💘
I wish Kim went back to visit him......
She can but she doesn’t want to because she thinks that she will forget her and wants to see him in her beautiful
Everybody thinks he's dead. She avoided going back to protect him in a way.
@@h.c4898 Yes that's true and I remember that where she said that Edward and Jim got into a fight explaining how the roof fell down on both of them and they died. Regarding going back to protect him, that would be unknown because after Kim said that Edward was dead, I'm sure the whole neighborhood wouldn't care to go near that mansion area anymore where maybe the neighborhood would feel that Kim only went towards the mansion to cherish memories of Edward whom she loved. Not even the police would probably care to go inside the mansion because when that one police officer chased Edward, he only fired his gun to scare him away and/or to trick the neighborhood that he shot and killed Edward. If he was trying to trick the neighborhood, that could be because Edward escaped away and everyone was assuming the police would kill him. Otherwise maybe Joyce would tell the neighborhood that it's her fault that Edward died since she framed him that he tried killing her with his Scissorhands.

The Neverending Story teaches us that even though the story ends, the lives of the characters don't.
I'd like to think that 1 day someone else visited that old house, and Edward met someone else to call a friend.

For me it makes me cry even harder because, I view this movie as the reason they fell in love. And the story of the movie, they didn’t end up together though they never stopped loving each other. And in real life… well.. art imitates life
Winona’s loving message about Johnny towards the allegations..
They still love each other from a distance. Just like Kim and Edward.
Where is he getting those huge blocks of ice from though?
+manofthetardis I'm only guessing that there was an ice making machine that belonged to the inventor and Edward operated it with his elbows pushing the buttons which then made blocks of ice. If not, probably a magician came over to the mansion doing a magic spell to create blocks of ice for him, haha.

This is such a timeless beautiful scene. The 90s were the best.
I’ve seen better movies from my birth decade
The power of the kindness that the Bogg's displayed and the power of love towards Kim triumphs over everything else. Instead of choosing to be a sad, angry victim, Edward focuses on the things that brought him joy during his brief period in society. It's so beautiful.

Edward .. living away from people alone and happy with him self just because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone
Just an interesting thought, Kim (Winona Ryder) was 18 in the movie and when she's telling the story as an old woman she's about what, 93? So the movie takes place in 1990 when she was about 18 and when she's old it's around the year 2063.
I personally don't think so. I think when she is old, the year is 1990. When she is a teenager I think it takes place around the 1960's. I think that because of the fashion the people wore in the movie.
@117672861786515724469 Good point. It does look like it's kind of 50's/ 60's with how things look. But one problem, if she was 18 in 1965 when this movie might have taken place she would only be around 43 in 1990. Whereas in the movie she looks like an elderly person. Also the cars they used in the movie were cars like the 1982 ford fairmont futura, the 1985 GMC vendura etc So it probably just takes in 1990 since those cars were recent at the time.
I also thought it was set maybe sometime in the 60s at first...it just had a very old fashioned feel to it, the pastel coloured houses, some of the furniture, the clothes, a few Tom Jones songs playing etc. But as the film went on some more modern things were shown...it was actually Jim's reference to CD players and VCR's that made me realise it was set in the present.

Some people say this is a sad ending but I see it as happy cause as long as some out there knows he still alive and loves him and remembers him he'll never be alone.
I’m one of those people who consider it as sad
'Sometimes you can still catch me blasting this music'
The soundtrack oh my god😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
The Nostalgia is real
How Danny Elfman’s film score never got an Academy Award I’ll never understand to this day.
It wasn't huge of a movie at the time. I don't think they've imagined to be that good either. Also Tim Burton's Batman was the one that made the most buzz a year earlier.
One of, if not, my favourite movie. It’s sad to know that he spent his remaining days in the castle, sculpturing his ice to let Kim know he’s still there. And one day, the ice will melt.
Do you think he can die ? Because he's an android so normally he can't
Yeah but most of the film I'm hysterical 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂it's just the ending that makes me cry 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Sculpture shows still Miss Diana Spencer is live to the people her family. Loved watching Edwards creations for Christmas Eve!...
