stop blaming stuart attwell. the linesman gave the goal. Everybody is like"kill attwell but give the linesman a knighthood bless him" get the hell out of here. Go after the linesman his fault.
Not Attwell's fault. All he did was listen to his linesman who said it's definitely a goal. His choice was ignore his linesman who's telling him it's a goal, or award the goal assuming that you missed the vital moment the goal crossed the line. It was an easy mistake to make for Attwell
@@jacobscarr2334 it still wasn't really the ref's fault....he never saw it,but.... his assistant thought he did and advised him....there was no VAR then....the ref did what he was supposed to do....consult his linesman....it was the linesman who got it wrong!
@@anthonybailey1966 I know what you're saying but if the opposition aren't even claiming the goal then it's pretty obvious. Mistakes happen but this was as bad as I've seen from both officials.
For those saying it was only the linesman fault.. Attwell was right there and could surely see it wasn't anything like a goal. He's equally guilty of missing it. PS and he supports Luton so that only added to the frustration and disbelief of the home support.
The fact that no player appealed and the crowd did nor react should have told them both something. Unless the linesman thought he was the only person in the ground to see it.
Watford do seem to be the victims of many controversial decisions. The latest against Brighton, with a perfectly good goal ruled out... Hopefully they will go up automatically and not have to worry about 2 points dropped at the end of the season.
I remember being at this game, the ref had one of the worse games ever, he gave away a silly penalty and Watford had some dodgy fouls against them waved play on. To this day I can’t see anything that could’ve confused the Lino
We should use video assisted refereeing, that should do away with all the controversy. We will call it VAR,fast forward to 2019 and we have more controversial decisions than ever!!!
"A draw they didn't deserve" we did deserve the two penalties Atwell failed to give us in the second half because he was making up for the ghost goal. I'm surprised he gave us the one we did score from.
Attwell at it again last weekend, awarding Chelsea a free-kick (from which they scored) following a “ghost” foul by Pedro Neto on Alonso whose embarrassing dive.easily fooled the hapless Attwell.
Referees and assistant referees are human and make mistakes like everyone else, but it doesn't mean he should be abused over it for ever, he was only young at the time, and he's paid his price by being de selected then earned his right to come back
"We feared Stuart Attwell might be prone to a mistake and boy did he make a mistake" "To be fair, it wasn't all his own doing" Poor old Stuart Attwell will be blamed for this for the rest of his life but it wasn't his fault at all and he only did what every other referee would've done in that situation. Attwell also got loads of stick for sending off Gary Cahill for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity at Spurs a few years after this. The clowns on Soccer Saturday talked as if it was the worst decision ever because the foul was committed just past the halfway line but it was definitely the correct decision because there wasn't another Bolton player anywhere near the Spurs man and only two things could've possibly happened if Cahill hadn't made the foul: The Spurs player would've run into the box and had a clear shot at goal or he would've squared it to his unmarked team-mate, who was also well away from any Bolton players.
Reading definitely deserved a draw, they are the better side. The only reason they can't beat Watford is because they fall to bits against them, same against Cardiff and Stevenage.
Atwell should have been sacked for that phantom goal. He had a better view than the linesman and still took notice of his decision, he's still a shit ref now pinching s living.

Atwell is the biggest joke in the history of football
Sounds like it was the assistants fault tho
Yeah this one is definitely on the crooked assistant and not the ref.
I'm here because of Chris kamara reaction had to check this ghost goal for myself
I’m here after the Arsenal/City game (New year’s day 2022)

I genuinely know the liner, Attwell asked him if the ball had crossed the line, which it had, so Nige said 'yes'
Bit harsh to reference Stuart Attwell's age and make out he took leave of his senses. He was stitched up by his assistant.
Not really, he gave a goal he never saw, no players or fans reacted and he still gave it, bonkers

Did we watch the same video?
Watching this after the arsenal city game and no worder
He’s a disgrace of a ref
So what’s the big deal? Man city get illegal goals all the time and no one says anything.
Seeing your comment after Atwell played for Man City vs Arsenal today :)
your comment stays relevant a year later lol
Did Attwell ever gave an explanation about this issue?
I thought it was an actual ghost , feel like a dick now
He is a disgrace to pl

Ha, I love seeing Jobi McAnuff, now Reading's Captain, getting so angry at the decision in a Watford shirt.
As a reading fan, no idea what all the fuss is about. it was a great finish, clear goal.

perfectly good goal as far as I can tell

He gave a goal because ....the ball went out of play beside the goal leaving the linesman to believe that it went in
Partial credit to the Linesman for almost being right.......
As a Reading Fan, I find this hilarious
As a Watford fan I don't 😂
Well you can now, Watford comfortable in the Prem, Reading still toiling in the Championship. Justice finds a way in the long run.
