    my favorite Schlippenbach Trio record, on Paul Lovens' small but wonderful Po Torch label

      Thanks! I felt like I had seen this cover before and really loved what I heard when I found it! I had a feeling there was a connection between Lovens and the label this record is on, thanks for the insight!

    Fantastic adds Joe. That Frank Lowe on the early Black Saint label is a treasure. I have a few Italian Black Saint pressings on the colored on one side like you stated. I have heard Last Exit. Isn't that one of Brotzmann's most sought after releases? Have not heard most of the ones that you showed. Thanks J~

      Thanks Rob! Yeah, I love Frank Lowe, he can’t do wrong! Yeah, I think the 1st Last Exit album, which is the one I showed, is the most sought after, but still only like $30, maybe $40 at most. The rest of their albums are under $20-$25

    Great finds. Wasnt sure where to start with Brotzman as i dont think it's all going to be my thing.

      A great place to start would be his more modern stuff from the last 15-20 years where there is more cohesiveness to his playing and it’s not as edgy!

    Bananas Records is one of the only sellers I trust on the Cogs. They are a top notch operation. Love that early Black Saint label. I have the Billy Harper with that label.

      Yeah their descriptions were very thorough and accurate! It was also nice to be able to inspect and listen to the records before purchasing. Great find on that Billy Harper record! Still one I need to find

    Joe cool finds I need to seek out that Last Exit Sonny Sharrock’s playing is so addictive on that release. Killer Charles Tyler Ensemble on ESP very tough to find in the wild . Those titles Peter Brötzmann look interesting I’m gonna check his albums out killer Free Jazz finds Joe.

      Thanks Lovell! Yeah, his playing on those albums is crazy! Got lucky that the condition was good on the Charles Tyler because ESP’s can be notoriously noisy. Hope you’re doing well! Look forward to your next video!

    i still don't know what free jazz is,i guess i dont have any in my collection!!

      Very improvisation-based. There is not a set structure to the music heard on the tracks. Melodies are not always maintained and at times, the music can sound disjointed! It’s very “free” as the name eludes to!

    • @Wyoming_Dave
      @Wyoming_Dave Před rokem

      Joe@@analog_archive improvisation based,i read that john coltrane did that on some of his records!

    • @analog_archive
      @analog_archive  Před rokem +1

      @@Wyoming_Dave yes! His stuff from ‘65-‘67 gets more and more “free”. Brotzmann is a different beast though, very angry and angular sound and it’s one you definitely have to work up to. I would say check out Live at the Lighthouse- Elvin Jones for a taste of some lighter free jazz and if you like that, you can explore some of Sam Rivers, Pharoah Sanders or even Coltrane’s albums, like First Meditations, Sun Ship, Infinity, and especially Interstellar Space, which is just a duo record with Rashied Ali on the drums. You could also see how you feel about A Love Supreme and Live at Birdland (both John Coltrane). If you can handle those, then you’ll be able to step into more freer stuff
