I'm so glad that The Shags were included. Also I'm trying to figure out if The Doors deserved its spot, I think they're right on the boundary between layers.
The Doors are an interesting one because they were 100% a staple of pop culture in their time but have since fallen off in popularity in a really odd way and have some deeply strange, sinister music in their back catalogue. They could also be pompous to the point of self-parody, mainly getting away with it because of Jim Morrison's incredible charisma and the tight playing behind him. Hey man I just wanted to say thank you for the Joji Worldstar Money tutorial you uploaded a couple of years ago. I came upon your video early on when it hadn’t blown up yet and you actually responded to one of my comments back then. That song now reminds me of a simpler time in my life on the rare occasion that I listen to it, so I just wanted to say thank you for that.

There is one, errrrr, *classily* named Danish grindcore band on the original chart not covered here, likely both for the name and because of how difficult it is to find their music even online. It's not impossible, though.
So this video is really neat, but there is one minor issue: At 6:30, you use a clip from Gounod's opera Faust, but that entry definitely refers to the German experimental band; the song "It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl" off of So Far would have made the point pretty well. If that's the joke, welp, I'm a doofus. Also that Soft Machine clip seems to be from one of the albums made after Robert Wyatt left, which are less musically weird but a whole lot stranger to be a fan of. Also back when I first saw this chart I was immediately like, "Oh, hey, The Shadow Ring are great! :3" So that's where I'm at, I guess. Completely irredeemable. God, I love freaky music.
Oh no, it's very intentional. Implying that Derek Bailey had no technical skills based on his free improv work is like implying Pablo Picasso couldn't hack it as a painter based on his post-Cubist work. Part of what makes his work so daunting and bizarre is that if you listen, you can hear his crazy impressive jazz chops, the dexterity and practical knowledge required to get on that level, but he chose to play like *that.* And I think that's awesome.
I'm kind of surprised I didn't see Ween, Tom Waits or Primus on teir two, but I suppose most people at least know who Primus is. I would have personally switched Pavement and Wilco. I'm not sure if I just hadn't noticed, but where's The Caretaker? It's a pretty good example for Weird/Creep.
Nah, it has ascended to creep or weird
Caretaker has already became close to a fucking normie - core, even tick-tock kids know him
@@crazyf1r397 that sucks. he made a really fantastic album.
@@calofc01s That'd make more sense. It has been less obscure lately.
@@crazyf1r397 Oh great. "Normie." The most narcissistic word I've heard in my life. "Oh. You live your life in a normal fashion and your happy with that? What an inferior person. You should beat your meat to lolis. Just like me. You just aren't as special as me, sorry." I have no idea how people just look at other folks they barely met and think that their superior just because they go on more deeper and edgier parts on the internet than others. It's so childish.
Suprised i didn't see any deathmetal, blackmetal or any kind of grind near the bottom. Just a bunch of experimental music
There's basically no metal on here, which is a shame. Here's how I'd have it, very roughly sketched:
Normal: Metallica, Black Sabbath
Weird: Slayer, Mayhem, Death, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse, Deafheaven, Amon Amarth, Liturgy, Sleep, Celtic Frost, Napalm Death
Creep: Atheist, Burzum, Deathspell Omega, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Immortal, Sunn 0))), The Body, AxCx, Yellow Eyes, Man is the Bastard, Blasphemy
Degenerate: Profanatica, Jute Gyte, White Medal, Ehnahre, Absurd, Wormphlegm, Abruptum, Khanate, Cerebral Incubation, Silencer, NME, Tetragrammacide
Irredeemable: Wold, Todesstoß, Uzumaki, Reek of the Unzen Gas Fumes, Ahulabrum, Repudilation, Nuclear Death, Vmthanaachth
Ascended: Torture, Apator

Imagine putting Taylor Swift and Swans in the same category
What are you talking about? Taylor Swift is in the top category, Swans are in the second
13:12 Eminem has been really quiet since this dropped 🥵
Thanks to this iceberg I now listen to Doopees religiously
Really informative video, glad someone made this! My only criticism is the volume could've been balanced better, some of the harsh noise like Merzbow was way louder than everything else and it startled me
Nah, it’s funnier that way
I was looking for that "most mysterious song on the internet".
Tom Waits should be somewhere with Frank Zappa and Captain Beefhart
Tom Waits is basically more popular Captain Beefheart
Why is aqua in creep?
so no goreshit? **throws phone** **breaks skateboard**
Damn that was intense.
link to that soundcloud song?
12:59 what’s so weird about this song? It’s a banger!🔥🔥🔥
this video made me realize how little music knowledge i have godamn
The guy that made the "yeah im riding through the area" belongs somewhere near the bottom lmao"
j-walk the greatest rapper alive
Where are artists like toru takemitsu, dust from 1000 years, joji yuasa, chelou... and of course the lesser known bands like attic abasement, crywank, glue trip...
*and of course Japanese acid folk as a whole
Because I literally just went off an image
@@calofc01s i know, im criticizing /mu/
@@existhours4882 I mean, there's some legit good shit on here that not a lot of people are at all familiar with, some of it pretty wild, but even setting aside the issues you raised… where's the metal? What about underground hip-hop and electronic music? I would have expected at least token nods in that direction beyond, like, Aphex Twin. At least get Burzum and Death Grips on there for the dank memes.
Searching for this video was one of the best decisions i made in a long time
the miles davis song selection got me dying lmao
SWEAR! LMAO
What song is it?
8:58 this one was my favorite one. Listen to it in full vlome you will love it :)
Gee, thanks
@@ChuzzleFilms No problem.
Favorite track from pulse demon bruh
Merzbow unironically slaps.
@@ConvincingPeople Gotta love Harsh Noise Wall/Noise music from time to time
theirs a whitehouse and a blackhouse.
The irony is Whitehouse is a chaotic group while Blackhouse is apparently Christian.
9:00 my headphones liked it so much that it exploded
Is "unknown Eskimo DJs" actual Eskimo DJs or is that just a band name
actual Eskimo DJs
Fun fact: Charles Manson played for the Beach Boys at a time.
I was expecting more brazilian artists than Damião Experiença, but that was good, for some people here Damião is just a insane homeless who falled into famous and good artists arms like Luiz Melodia
The person who made this clearly normally doesn’t listen to anything besides Kanye West.
yup
I think that if Budgie was to be included, they’d be somewhere in between Weird and Creep.
Wouldn’t John Cage or Death Grips be in the weird category?
Yeah I'd think. Maybe john cage a bit lower.
I mean those are like, extremely iconic artists
they are their own categories
death grips is pop
@@user-xu4xw6jm7d they’re popular yes but pop? Hardly
I don't know why there are no Hella at the weird tier, or Hanatarash at the bottom tiers
I mean, there's also no metal on here, almost no electronic music, and no hip-hop below the uppermost tier. There are clearly some holes in this.
Hanatarash is both normal and popular. At least in comparison to most things here.
Hanatarash is closer to creep/degenerate
Best acid trip, here I go
They should’ve included crushed Mary, it’s a very interesting vocaloid peice. It’s also very sweet! Give it a listen perhaps?
i come back to this video like. monthly it’s become a tradition
What if the only thing I listen to is binaural mixes of the Gameboy Lavender Town theme?
00:07 scared the shit outta me
Same😰😰
Peter Sotos is really dark..
And depressing like fuck when you dig into his messages it’s sad that those people actually exist, death to pedophiles.
Where would They Might Be Giants and Lemon Demon be located? Feel like they’d be somewhere between Weird and Creep.
Theyd definetly be in the weird category
High weird. Definitely not creep. Sorry btw
@@Chrispeaches what about 100 gecs?
@@georgeleslie7307 They're popular enough to stay in Weird if not rank slightly above Lemon Demon. In terms of stuff in that arena which is firmly in Creep territory, Picky Picnic and The Residents are already on here, but I would probably add Reptilian Ghetto Boyz, Uchouten and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, with Caroliner, Faxed Head and Don Salsa tipping into Degenerate territory and JON (The Dog) probably being somewhere in Irredeemable. (JON is fantastic and I love here but she's deffo some freak shit.)
I was waiting for Lemon Demon and never saw them, I have an obsession with Neils music lmao

Sorry I’ll take it down and do exactly that
Hell yeah, man. This is by far best than 2 hours of some guy telling me the life story of these music psychopaths. Just let me hear the music and let me decide if I want to know more.
