  • Our in house Expert Charlie and Vince took a look at the differences between PVA and our own SBR.
Tell us what you think? Do you use PVA or SBR?

Do you a tiling video which shows a)how to prepare/prime the wall prior to tiling and b)how to tile after priming the wall? Also how do you make the wall waterproof prior to tiling?

Thanks for your great video very helpful.
Is there a good SBR I could use to prime an external wall that has masonry paint.
The paint is sound and not flaky.
    😊

Thanks for the question. Although we are not specialists in priming painted surfaces, I could recommend using a Sika acrylic product, and would also recommend checking with Sika for the best product from their range.

Hi, thanks.so I shouldn’t use pva on a plaster wall before painting..? What do I use ? Thanks

    • @stslimited9160
      @stslimited9160  Před 3 lety +2

Hi, thanks. The normal way to prime a newly plastered surface is with watered down paint. The standard recommendation is a 70:30 mix of paint:water. Apply this mist coat to the plaster and allow to dry before applying your finished paint surface. Hope this helps :)

    1- Waterproof surface VS PVA
Yes, after 3-4 coats and 48h + of wait time, and most likely it will be a very slim film that is waterproof, similar to a sealer I reckon.
    2- Eliminates dust VS PVA
Well PVA sort of eliminates dust, but I assume key point is that the dust will not stick to the SBR applied area ? I don't think this will make anyone rush to buy SBR.
    3- Best adhision VS PVA
We need to see stats on this, tests made. How significant is this "best adhision", when adhesives stick to a non primed PVA wall anyway ?
My actual question is, why would you test this on a gloss tile which doesn't absorb the PVA or SBR and not test in a real life scenario, on plasterboard or whatever ?
I could brush some cheap sealer on that tile and get the same results that were shown in this video :)
    Cheers

To be honest there should have been a number 4 (or at least mentioked in point 3) and that's the major one. SBR when set it no longer water soluble, PVA when set is reactivated by water. So when you smear some adhesive over SBR it gives you a nice pull on the trowel and sticks good. PVA is reactivated and turns to mush giving shit adhesion

Hi Mark, Thanks for asking. We recommend 1 part SBR to 3 parts water. Just so you know our 6mm NoMorePly boards are Pre-Primed however. :)

Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) is a general-purpose synthetic rubber, produced from a copolymer of styrene and butadiene. I trust that helps.
