I used to drive on wrong side initially on single village connecting roads while giving pass to others, I had no idea of left then. 🙃 but after few months I was fine
1. Agar gaadi center of road ki taraf aa kar right blinker deti hai- gaadi right jayegi. Agar apni side daba ke right blinker on karti hai- pass de rhi hai. Also, turn pe maximum area apni nazar mein layiye taki aap duur se aa rahi gaadiyon ko pichle turn pe hi spot kar sakein. Trust me, very helpful in planning overtakes. 2. Don't honk unnecessarily. Noise pollution is a serious thing. It is a warning tool only and should be used like one. Trust your judgement. 3. Bahut acchi baat batayi gayi engine braking ke bare mein. More use of brakes = more they heat up = More they are likely to fail. Heavy gear mein chaliye control mein rahiye. Utrayi mein engine braking consumes fuel only needed to keep it running, just like idling. 4. No overtake on turns. Is baat ko hamesha dhyan rakhiye. Don't put your and other's precious life in risk. 5. Pahad mein achanak brake lagna common hai, kabhi road par kuch aane se, kabhi agle ki poor judgement se etc. Keep safe distance khas kar private busses se, jo beech sadak me sawari ke liye brake mar denge. 6. If some one appears in the rear view and is asking for pass, it is clear that person is faster. Let him/her overtake and don't be a fool. 7. Pahad mein parking ki dikkat hai. Bazaron mein park kar ke traffic jam na kijiye, challan hoga. Thoda door jake ghoomke aaiye. Isn't that what you came for in the first place? Also, keep a person in vehicle at all times, who can drive and avoid unforseen problems. 8. Night mein samne wali gaadi ke liye dipper use karein. Please help them see the road and ensure everybody's safety. 9. Sadak pe koi bhi movement karne se pehle blinkers use karein taaki baki log alert ho jaayein. 10. Finally, Road Rage se bachein. Baar baar horn, aggressive driving, getting angry while behind steering, using foul language, etc. ye sab iske sign hain. Kindly read about the signs of road rage so that you can identify them and avoid them. Relax rahein, chill rahein aur maaf kar dein. Might sound funny but road rage makes you lose mental peace which affects concentration. Aur pahad mein concentration gaya ki accident hua. Jitna relax rahenge utne better decisons road par le sakenge. Mujhe 18 saal himachal mein drive karte ho gaye and still I learn something new everyday. Perfect driver doesn't exist. Caution hi life bachati hai.
I was about to write few things and was searching if anyone has mentioned. Explained very well. Please follow the road and avoid getting hyper or you might loose control in mountains. That's not what you ever want. (From someone who has driven most of Himachal and J & K for many years now).
No. 6 is very important. Always give way to the vehicle appearing in your rear view mirror. Obviously he is faster than you. AND Never overtake on curves.
my experience of pahari driving [5 years] experience only matter here 1.give way to loaded vehicle like truck while in incline 2.u must have judgement of ur tyre 3.dont't try to make pressure on exle 4.in steep never be on neutral but be on atleast second gear 5.be aware from landslide and rolling rocks 6.in rains never park ur car under tree and on edge of road try to find best location 7.never ever try to overtake on curves 8.don't irritate heavy vehicle honking cont. they will give pass whenever possible 9.don't be too left/right be in the middle if gorge is there 10. Enjoy the beauty
Really nice tips brother... But in my personal experience your last point is a bit wrong when it comes to the driver.... The surroundings are sometimes too stunning and its very easy for the driver to lose focus. So if u are driving and u want to enjoy please park the car and then enjoy the view
During driving in Hill area always remember that" first mistake will be last mistake " you will not get another chance for your mistake. So, always be extra careful during driving in Hill area please don't play with your life.
Just want to add one thing which is related to night driving on hills... It's better to have fog lamps in your car.. if you don't have fog lamps then adjust the headlights to the lowest level means more spread on the road. It would help to see turns more effectively.
Other key aspects... 1. Anticipation! Whenever you see an oncoming vehicle... make sure to see where n how close the vehicle crossing will be n what extra space you'll have in case of other vehicle makes a last minute close manoeuvre. This will help you safely cross with less risk. 2. Local cabs n taxis will dominate the roads n whenever wanting to overtake, Just let them else you might end up in unnecessary hassle with them.
Using half clautch technique is very very important for Hilly terrains.I live in Coochbehar North bengal which is near by eastern Himalaya.I learnt this technique from the drivers of Darjeeling area.They are extremely efficient.Particularly some of the roads are extremely narrow as well as extremely inclined.Half clutch technique is not easy to learn.But particularly when you driving to uphill it will help you to prohibit pressing break.If you press break on up hill then you have to remove your foot from break paddle and again have to press the accelerator it needs some times, mean while due to graviotional force the vehicle could go to backward which would be disastrous. So this method is very useful.It needs skill, guts and patience.Darjeeling area is very high precipitation area.Through out the year rainfall affects the area.So slippery roads are an issue .
You have a fair knowledge of driving on hills. I was just checking what u had to say in this matter as I live in Himachal. U have covered all things except that your vehicle must be completly in control before negotiating a curve and panic braking on the curves may prove to be fatal. Rest you r doing really good job. MORE TIPS..... - Please Use dipper in night aspecially when someone is coming from ahed of you .. (Bhar ke bndo ko mostly ye cheeze pta ne hoti or bhut irritate karti hai by god) - Don't honk unnecessary when there's a vehicle in front of you.. (Instead wait until a straight bend come and then bip your horn a little just to inform that vehicle.) - Don't disturb the rythen of other vehicles on uphills by taking pass at wrong time and place.. (Most of the loaded vehicles like trucks are underpowered and doesn't afford a little loss in motion just because of someone's stupidity) - Most of mountain roads are very narrow so don't take someone else's space by not following your side just because you afraid of hill. Bonus tip - Always enter wide and exist tight So that you won't end up in someone else's lane while exiting the corner.. Thank you Ride Safe..

Sir, mein khud pahar mein rehta hu aur pahar mein hi driving karta hu... Ek important tips mein dena chahta hu... Jadatar pagar mein gehri fog milta hai, Fog mein drive karte samay driver ko raste ke middle ke white line follow karte huwe uski left mein gari drive kare. Agar road pe white line marking nahi hai, tab road ka left ka tarmac ka end, yani jaha tarmac khatam hota hai, usko follow kare aur dhire dhire drive kare. Fog mein aage dekne ki koshish na kare, karan driver ko aage kuch nahi dikhe ga, agar apka dhyan aage duur dekhne pe rahega, to apko to kuch dikhe ga nahi ulta gari raste se niche utar ja sakta hai. Apni headlight ko low beem pe jala kar rakhe, ta ke ulte disha se ati huyi gari ko aapke gari dikh jaye.

It's sound comedy type but my thought is all persons who drive in highway or hills or in city even they should have this knowledge. Major amount of people don't know how to drive in road properly. Sir, mein khud pahar mein rehta hu aur pahar mein hi driving karta hu... Ek important tips mein dena chahta hu... Jadatar pagar mein gehri fog milta hai, Fog mein drive karte samay driver ko raste ke middle ke white line follow karte huwe uski left mein gari drive kare. Agar road pe white line marking nahi hai, tab road ka left ka tarmac ka end, yani jaha tarmac khatam hota hai, usko follow kare aur dhire dhire drive kare. Fog mein aage dekne ki koshish na kare, karan driver ko aage kuch nahi dikhe ga, agar apka dhyan aage duur dekhne pe rahega, to apko to kuch dikhe ga nahi ulta gari raste se niche utar ja sakta hai. Apni headlight ko low beem pe jala kar rakhe, ta ke ulte disha se ati huyi gari ko aapke gari dikh jaye.
