Agree that there is very little in it for the top 4 teams. That being said, I think it is south africa's to lose. The depth of their squad, winning the cup multiple times (one in france), consistency in coaching staff that won it last time around, the style of their game, it tips it to them for me. As everyone has said though, if any team has an off night, they are there for the taking.

Totally agree with you. I root for the ABs but I have said to my friends that the Springboks bruising game is built for World Cups. And that backline is second only the All Blacks in my opinion, with you guys having a significant advantage in the forwards pack. I think South Africa can retain, but they should just not meet the ABs before the final because with these two teams the form book usually doesn't mean much.

The English beat Argentina and the Aussies can also cause an upset, as a Bok supporter we need to make sure stay ruthless and hope our forwards are dominant as our flyhalf isn't great under pressure, I hope we can put in a great performance today. If sexton or ringrose go down Irelands backline goes to shit, if Sheehan is out the line out is dust too.

France won by a couple of scores without really playing very well. Granted New Zealand didn't play well either and to be honest I don't think SA/Ireland would be particularly 'scared' to play either NZ or France along the way, but France have still put away one of the top sides so that counts for a lot. SA putting away Scotland at 5th place is a statement from them too. Ireland haven't had that statement win yet, but their route will be more of a momentum building one where the games they play get progressively more 'important'

Have to feel that Ireland and France are still #1 and #2 respectively. Both France and Ireland have beat the Boks fairly recently. Not saying that the Boks aren't close, but handing the ABs a walloping at this point in time isn't much of an indicator. Looking forward to the Boks playing Ireland on the 23rd.

On the other hand my favourite players are Marx , Faf and Etzebeth, so I won't be heart-broken to see them win.@@terwinterwin7792

SA are a very good side, settled and well coached, but one game against a none classic Abs doesn't change how poor they were at times in the TRC, they havent become perfect in one game. They will be a handful but I see france squeezing them out.

The thing is we need to play all our games at the same intensity to make it out of our pool, tough ask and I suspect that Nienaber and Rassie was planning this for the last four years. I'm only taking the blue print from that game for the WC, we havent done well ourselves under pressure and our flyhalf needs to tested as well.

How do you watch the SA vs Scotland game and say that! The World Cup is NOT the Rugby Championship. The World Cup is tighter, is once every 4 years, and it’s do or die. SA played a completely different game against Scotland. I can’t say I watch all their games, but the one place I thought they could come unstuck is with a back line like Scotland. You know exactly what you’re getting up front, but with quick ball and a really good back line that’s your opportunity against SA. But how smart were those selections from SA and the game plan? The rush defence was outstanding and they stopped anything before it started because they chose a back line that was all pace. That wasn’t their best side, but was the best side against Scotland.
Furthermore, they lost etsebeth early, a talisman, and you didn’t even notice he wasn’t there. There is so much depth they just keep going. From what has been seen, and the Ireland win was against a minnow so it’s hard to say where they truly are, but whoever beats SA is a worthy World Cup winner. If they come up against France, who knows which France will pitch up on the day, but SA will be prepared for them. The pressure of playing at home is also something that cannot be ignored, but you saying that 2 weeks ago beating a full strength ABs by a record margin with an experimental side, and playing a very different way against Scotland with a completely different game plan is irrelevant, is probably exactly what SA hopes everybody they play against will do and underestimate them.
Look at any team and from their perspective ask, how do we beat SA, and they don’t have an answer. You almost discard them in a disrespectful manner, which is just a sign of bias.

Scotland will be sent home by Ireland. They scored three points against us dude, and that was the only scoring chance we let them have. Even as a SAFFA, I hope they don't beat Ireland because they will just be giving our potential final opponent an easier path. If we make it to the final, we want to play Ireland, or whoever beat Ireland; we don't want to play the team that put Scotland out of their misery or a team from the other side of the pool, we want to play the best to prove where we stand in the world.

Week one has passed. In every RWC you get upsets, underdogs winning critical games. As a Bok fan, I will be cautious around France and AB's. France has the home crowd and it does make a difference. Springboks never has won AB's on NZ soil, so the bok supporters should not get too over confident\arrogant.
France has the adv. The opening game between France and AB's was sloppy and yet France ended up winning (even the captain of AB confirmed it was hard to play against a team and
    their fans.).
We have a gr8 forward pack but no good kicker. In QF and SF, a game can be one by the kicker on drop goals, penalties etc. and Springboks can loose a game due to that.
Good luck to the Boks and hope we do have a kicker before QF
