  • Excited to share my first look at the brand new commercial battery powered mower from Ego. This 53cm beast looks absolutely amazing. Can't wait to try it out properly and let you know what it's like. For now, this is a quick first look.

    Looks really well done. I could see this being a big hit commercially because it is reasonably priced comparatively to other gas commercial grade mowers. I bet next Ego will make a 30" walk behind.

    Thank god they got rid of that ridiculous delay before being able to pull it back like other Ego mowers. I'm planning on getting one of these myself but if it had that delay it would have been a deal breaker. I'm looking forward to seeing you give it a good test run.

    I have this mower too. The power is really good and i have tested it on 1 to 2 feet of grass and weeds and it just munched it and that was only in the middle power level. My otyer main takeaway so far is how well it fills the grass bag. Its a big bag but it fills it really well until its super full.
    Mulching works really well too and i have also ordered the side discharge shoot as that supposed to work really well too.

  • @wadebeaumont5085
    @wadebeaumont5085 Před měsícem

    I’m sure it will perform well, it will basically boil down to how much power it burns in thick summer grass. A winter release is smart. I’m still on the fence about battery mowers. Hand held gear is a no brainer so many advantages but mowers at the moment are still a bit of a novelty. Maybe this is the one to leave the 216 behind?

    • @lovelawns
      @lovelawns  Před měsícem +1

      Yeah keen to get it in to action next week. Up until now the only battery mowers that have even gotten close are the Pellenc but super expensive and the Makita (somewhat) but even these don’t really come close to a commercial petrol mower in terms of pure power and productivity. Hoping this one may have nailed it but will have more to report after a few weeks of actual use. Still a fair bit of growth here in QLD and lots of wet grass so should be able to give it a good thrashing lol.

  • @betterlawns4u
    @betterlawns4u Před měsícem +1

    Looks great. But I just don't think battery power is quite there yet for commercial use mowers. The financial number when you take in to account the battery costs, just don't add up yet. Then there is the run time. Hopefully tho, things may change for the better in the coming years?

    • @lovelawns
      @lovelawns  Před měsícem +1

      I hear ya mate, and feel the same although I think this might be the year that starts to change and this mower along with a few others coming down the pipeline and some already here may be the start of that. I haven’t really used this one yet though so will see how it goes over the next few months. They are bloody expensive tho! No two ways about it. I was looking at the new battery Toro Grandstand and it’s about $50k and more!

    EGO said it would have a commercial mower RPM of 3,300 RPM unloaded so as a contractor you can walk fast - time is money … just tested:
    ECO: 2,690 RPM
    Level one 2,830 RPM
    Level two 2,990 RPM

    • @lovelawns
      @lovelawns  Před měsícem

      Thanks for sharing the blade speeds. The self propelled works well if you want to jog behind the mower it’s fast enough to do that.

    • @garageblitztv3215
      @garageblitztv3215 Před měsícem

      @@lovelawns RPM not fast enough for a clean cut at the faster self propelled speeds - too many stragglers. They advertised 3,300 unloaded RPM. However, I have found it very good with thick buffalo at a “brisk” walking pace at level 2 RPM … will be interesting to see if it’s blade RPM will be enough for commercial operations needing to work fast.

  • @jamesba-xd7xf
    @jamesba-xd7xf Před 22 dny

    this IS a great mower no doubt, but where I live the mower ALONE is $1300 then you have to buy the batteries what are $1000 for 2, and I dont think that includes any charger. so thats $2300 for a 21" walk behind mower that I will have to spend another $1400+ on for 2 more batteries in 3-4 years ( the inflation rate is 10% per year now). Im sticking with gas. IF they lower the price to a sane level Ill go with EGO gladly.

    • @lovelawns
      @lovelawns  Před 21 dnem

      Yeah it’s not for everyone and is certainly an investment, but most people buy into a system so may already have batteries and chargers which helps. The kit is $2850 here in Aus plus a free battery via redemption. For what it is it’s priced about what I would expect. If you look at similar commercial machines like the Pellenc or Stihl RMA twin blade it’s actually cheap lol.

    I think the blade engagement should have the bar in the front and the self-propelled bar in the rear. The opposite of what you said in the video makes more sense. What a stupid design, especially if you dont want to use self-propelled, and the huge bar on the front of the mower seems like a waste. A nylon/plastic blade spindle is a cheap part waiting to break.

    • @lovelawns

      Interesting points. Will have to see how it goes over time.

    • @RAJIMAX8
      @RAJIMAX8 Před měsícem +1

      The huge bar at front looked unnecessary and in the way of the lights I initially thought as well, but I found it was necessary as this mower is super heavy and that works well as the handle to lift it.

    • @lovelawns
      @lovelawns  Před měsícem

      @RAJIMAX8 yes works well for lifting should you need to and some protection too.

  • @jimhud134
    @jimhud134 Před měsícem +1

    Looks good. But for commercial use, mowers have to be petrol. For strimming, hedging etc battery is great, but you need long run times for a mower.

    • @lovelawns
      @lovelawns  Před měsícem +1

      I used to think along the same lines too, but it might be about to change with the new breed of battery powered mowers coming out this year. Runtime is pretty much sorted now with the larger backpack style batteries that mount on the mowers, but power has not quite been there yet. Power and runtime is the biggest hurdle... And initial cost is steep.

    • @jimhud134
      @jimhud134 Před měsícem

      @@lovelawns Yeah the initial cost is steep. I looked at the Stihl RMA 765 (it’s £3300 with one battery in the UK), then you’d need to buy another battery pack. You can buy the RM655 for £1400, then a hell of allot of petrol for the difference.

    • @Jeo-What
      @Jeo-What Před měsícem +1

      Maybe it can be used together with the petrol units as the "Early & Late Night Unit" that is quiet enough to operate earlier or later of the day where the petrol would be too loud to operate depending on the noise regulation of the location.

    • @lovelawns
      @lovelawns  Před měsícem

      @jimhud134 That is a lot of petrol to make up the cost… Much nicer to use tho.

    • @Jeo-What
      @Jeo-What Před měsícem +1

      @@lovelawns are we also factoring into the cost of the petrol vs electric & all the service time & cost for the next 5~10 years? It really depending on how how many time the petrol mower is refilled per season since each 12.0Ah (672W) has the similar energy/fuel capacity/runtime as a full tank of petrol fuel (but provides full torque) while petrol fuel is ~20x-25x more expansive per fill up compared to the average local electricity rates worldwide (maybe not in the middle east?!).
