  • “The Ukrainians aren’t winners, but the Russians sure as hell aren’t winners in that environment.”
Trump and JD Vance “really don’t care” about coordinating the Ukraine plan with American allies but their inaction won't threaten the Poles and the Baltics, says political scientist Ian Bremmer.

NO WAY UKRAINE should give up territory AND people to Russia! Breaking this international law would trigger wars and crises all around the world following Russia´s path. You cannot allow Russia that but deny it any other country and China is just waiting for that to attack Taiwan.
Supporting Ukraine by ALL means WITHOUT any restrictions to defeat Russia is the only way to save Ukraine and secure Europe and the whole world!!!

Also, Ukraine is a sovereign nation and can teach the Ukrainian language and only the Ukrainian language ; it is their right as a free and sovereign nation. What if the USA decides to teach English and only English in their public schools, would Mexico or other Spanish speaking nations attack USA because their people are under attack or feel alienated ? This war has gone on for long enough; people died and families lost loved ones.

Yep, we don't want that. But Ukraine is losing. There may be a point where they make territorial concessions rather than collapsing entirely. Just ask the draft dodgers... Ukrainians don't REALLY want to fight and die for their country. Only very few, and they are beyond exhausted.

@@DmitriyK12 Actually, while Russia is exaggerating on these claims, it's perfectly reasonable to expect tuition in your native language. And quite a large part of Ukrainians speak Russian as a native language. It's not always practical to teach native languages in schools, for example in the US, but there are attempts all over the US to at least increase bilingual teaching, for example in Spanish, French, Navajo or Hawaiian and others.

Bremmer starts off with the premise that there is no scenario in which Ukraine can win back all its territory and moves from that to say a deal has to be done with Russia - which itself is based on the premise that some sort of lasting deal can be done with Russia on the basis that Russia will think it has paid "asymmetrically" to get what it already has of Ukraine. There are three assumptions there and I don't think any of them are correct.

I find this view to be short sighted. Firstly, Trump agrees with Putin that the EU needs to be minimised/ neutralised. Both of them want this to happen at any cost to the peoples of Europe. Secondly, any failure to help Ukraine to "win" plays straight into Putins gradualist ratchetting takeover of the whole former USSR. It isn't a question of Russia "not winning". It's a question of Ukraine not losing. And Ukraine will never stop retaking Crimea, whatever the interviewee feels is "one of those things that happen".

I agree. Agreements to help defend what is left of Ukraine won't be worth the paper they are written on if previous agreements are anything to go by. Few in Eastern Europe will feel reassured, and Russian interference in the political narrative of Europe will continue.
The price in Russia is being paid by the average person and until they, or the Oligarchs, have had enough of Putin's regime this imperialist expansion will continue, in Europe, in Africa and in the Middle East.
Russia is on the verge of losing this war. They are running out of the equipment to wage war. Within a year or two, their ability to wage war will be exhausted, and their economy will be in shreds. If we want to end this quickly, we should supply the Ukrainians with the equipment they need in the quantities they need and stop putting restrictions on how they should use it. Do that and Russia will cease to be a problem for several generations.
