John McTernan really articulates exactly whats wrong with his and his centrist friends' world view. "In essence, Jeremy has got a set of views and the voters have a set of views. Either Jeremy compromises with the voters or the voters wont compromise with the labour party." What an awful thing to say. To think not only that all voters think alike (condescending in and of itself) but also to assume that the public is incapable of being persuaded in any way. How little a faith in democracy does this man have? Democracy is about enlivened debate, inspiring the public, changing people's minds, and critical depth and understanding of issues.
Politics is not merely about trying to work out what floating voters are thinking. You can't only cater to that minority of people while relying on those that want stronger stances being too scared to vote for a minority party because of FPTP. The impassioned people get, the greater the party's support. That's why Corbyn will win in 2020, the same way Tony Blair did. Not with mild views but aims of modernisation. From education to environment to economics and every other aspect of the establishment.
When Cameron and Osborne entered Downing Street, did the smugeratti elite sneer that they had no relevant experience? Nah. Because they serve capital and went to Eton, so that's ok.
McTernan is an example of all that's gone wrong with the Labour party, a truly vile character.
Why interview someone like Mr McTernan, except as part of a program exploring psychological Denial? He gives advice about "winning" when his track record shows that he is extremely bad at it!

I voted for Blair, for my sins, in two elections.. I was deceived! I think McTernan is a fine example of why people turned to an honest politician. Corbyn lost because of Brexit and having to fight against the right wing of his own party.

I can't wait for PM Corbyn to bring back socialism and renationalize stuff. It's been too long for people to remember how terrible lives were back in those days. It's time to give people some real life experience as a reminder...
