  • This is my simple guide to fitting a Skoda Amundsen RNS310 (RNS315) head unit into a Mk2 Skoda Fabia. I got the RNS310 by accident from a seller on ebay who refunded me and sent out the correct unit I had purchased which was the RNS315 a much better unit in my mind and worth the extra cash.
    To get Navigation on the MFD you have to enable it through the Can-Bus Gateway within VCDS (Option 37 NAVIGATION)
    To get Phone on the MFD you have to enable that also though Can-Bus Gateway (Option 77 TELEPHONE)
    The Phone module I have is 5KO 035 730D

    I have fitted this and am made up with it, everything works fine. Mine doesn't have bluetooth built in though so I have had to buy the bluetooth module to get the phone to work, I can't find the wiring loom though to connect the module to my RNS 315. Do you know what cable I need? Can't find the right one online but I want the benefit of the phone feature as there is a button there! Thanks 😊

    Great guide thanks. Considering this for my 2007 Skoda Roomster. I think I might need a Can Bus Adapter? Also, the radio is called Amundsen (not Amundsmen) so it actually took me a while to find this video. Cheers!

    • @JGrindel
      @JGrindel  Před 7 lety +1

      Got it Amundsen! changed the description thank you! - Regarding your 2007 skoda roomster, it has the older can-bus to the 2010 onwards facelift, the radio wont turn on with the car and it will turn off every 30mins as the radio and car wont be communicating (it wont be able to get a power on signal) you can wire in a converter which people have done on the Briskoda forums, so that might be your next point of contact to see if anyone can help you on there. Might be worth posting in both roomster and fabia forums as the car is the same upfront really. Hope this helps.

      Congrats on your purchase! A worthy upgrade :)
      I found a local VCDS user on briskoda (they have a list of active VCDS users and their locations) who coded it for me.
      You could also invest in OBDeleven if you wanted. But I would just call a local garage and see if they have VCDS / VAG-Com and wouldn’t mind checking a few adaptations for you.

      If its a VRS Mk2 5j from 2010 onwards then yes it will work, as long as the cars not about to commit suicide due to oil starvation or chain skipping ;) (jk jk) It requires you to activate the Navigation and Phone modules using VCDS / Vag-Com, which I got done by a local Briskoda Forum member who had the program already (costs a lot to own) Also dont get the RNS310 get the RNS315 with Phone built in, thats what I have now. The video shows everything needed for the installation.
      Radio, GPS antenna, potentially a DAB antenna if you get a radio with DAB and a microphone if you also get a unit with inbuilt Bluetooth.
      However like I mentioned in a previous comment. The RNS315 is old now and with the CarPlay/Android Auto, the NoName RCD330+ (Green LED) is my recommendation now.

    hi @J_Grindel. I have Fabia vRS 2013 with simple radio and would like to change with this one. On the steering wheel I have buttons to operate my phone but because I have simple radio without bluetooth I cannot connect it. I do not have all those option on the main board in MFD (Got only MFD, Audio and Setup... but you have there + Navigation and Phone). The question is: If I will replace this device, will I be able to connect my phone and operate it with steering wheel button?

    • @JGrindel
      @JGrindel  Před 4 lety +1

      andriesu1 You should be able to control the volume etc from the wheel even with stock swing radio. You won’t see phone or nav if the car doesn’t have it currently as the car won’t see the modules. If you install a radio it might pop up in the MFD if not you will need to get it coded in via VCDS. Join the Fabia VRS Mk2 page or join the Fabia Monte Carlo page (I’m an admin so will accept ASAP) on Facebook if you need more help as easier to show pictures and links on there.

For example it shows the directions on the screen in the center whereas if your car you would need to look down at the radios screen. @JGrindel  Před 7 lety +2

      mahmoud saied I've not installed a reverse camera to my Rns315. The RNS310 doesn't offer reverse camera as it doesn't have a MDI port on the back. If yours does then it can but the wiring loom and camera is nearly as expensive as the radio itself

      @JGrindel  Před 7 lety +1

      mahmoud saied the fabia doesn't naturally support the camera so it would require you to chop shop a Golf camera with a number plate camera and then wire the leads through your boot into the headliner (making sure not to get it tangled with your side impact airbags) then somehow get the RNS310 to read it. Like I said if it doesn't have the MDI port this isn't doable so don't waste your money. TBH I wouldn't even bother trying. It's more hassle than it's worth. Just look out the back and use parking sensors

      BUT... in todays world I would look at the NoName RCD330+ (Green LED) which is more like the new mk3 fabias radio with car play and android auto... plus not too expensive either. The installation for that is the same as this but without the GPS wiring.

    Hi, my Fabia has a swing with Bluetooth already fitted. Will it be a straight swap for a 310 or a 315 without Bluetooth?

      Scott B Yes! If you already have the Bluetooth module in your cars it’s a straight swap!!! It’s a direct swap even if you don’t have the phone kit :)
      Best to get the RNS315 as it’s a better unit overall
